U-Boat Worx launches 9-person flagship lithium-ion battery submersible NEXUS

Dutch submersible manufacturer U-Boat Worx (www.uboatworx.com) breaks the mould with the launch of the NEXUS series. U-Boat Worx is the market leader in private and commercial submersibles. Since 2017, the company has sold more than 20 of its highly successful Cruise Subs to private operators, resorts, and cruise lines.

Nexus White Front View
Nexus White Side View
Nexus White Right Angle
Nexus White from Top Upside
Nexus Yellow Front Side

The NEXUS series (www.uboatworx.com/model/nexus-series) comprises two models featuring an ultra-large elliptical acrylic pressure hull with unrivalled passenger comfort. Seating up to eight passengers and one pilot, the NEXUS provides 25% more interior space than competing models. The NEXUS subs are depth-rated to 200 meters (650 feet).

Equipped with the latest lithium-ion battery technology, the subs can operate for up to 18 hours and dive up to ten times a day. 80 guests can participate in an unforgettable sub-sea adventure daily (www.uboatworx.com/model/nexus-series).

The unique revolving seating arrangement featured in the Cruise Subs has been replicated in the NEXUS. Passengers therefore always enjoy the best view, regardless of the direction the submarine is travelling. The NEXUS subs are designed as multi-directional, meaning they can manoeuvre in any direction without compromise. This is a distinguishing capability only achieved in U-Boat Worx submersibles. Ten silent thrusters provide the power required for top performance and unmatched speed.

The experience and knowledge gained from the development of the Cruise Subs has evolved the new features in the NEXUS series, including an XXL entrance hatch – the largest ever incorporated on a submersible of this size. For passengers of all ages, the entire boarding process has been streamlined, in keeping with U-Boat Worx’s vision that everyone should be able to experience the oceans in a safe and comfortable manner.

A unique feature of U-Boat Worx’ flagship submersibles is the optional passenger elevator, also integrated on the company’s C-Researcher models.

Thanks to top-mounted diving tanks, the view abeam on both sides is unrestricted by floaters, with ample freeboard. This also leads to a stable boarding platform granting sufficient space for all occupants to stand on deck.

The NEXUS is optimised for ship-based launch and recovery, and can also be deployed from land and transported to dive sites.

In addition to the 9-person NEXUS, a marginally smaller and lighter 7-person version is available.

NEXUS – meaning a point of connection – bridges the gap between people and the ocean, providing a truly immersive aquatic encounter.

About U-Boat Worx
The 10 Submersible essentials (www.uboatworx.com/why-u-boat-worx-submarines)

For centuries, the Netherlands has been synonymous with world-class maritime innovation. U-Boat Worx is proudly continuing this tradition by leading the global submersible market. Since becoming an industry leader in submarine design, construction, and operations, we see our commitments to safety, quality and service as the major reasons for our ongoing success.

The desire to explore the deep has existed since the dawn of humanity. The popularization of scuba-diving brought the oceans within reach. Unlike scuba-diving, a manned submersible can take us deeper, in safety and comfort – without any risk of decompression.

The dream of creating a superior submersible, available to the general public, began in the 1980s. Bert Houtman, founder of U-Boat Worx, had the revolutionary idea to create submersibles that would not only be operated by the military or large oceanographic research institutes, but also for the private sector. He realized that to do that, he needed to build his own.

Hydrogen Optimized Signs Letter of Intent with Industrial Company to Supply More Than 40 MW of Large-Scale Hydrogen Production Capacity

Unique cost-effective scalability of Hydrogen Optimized’s RuggedCell(TM) water electrolyser cited as key factor leading to agreement

Hydrogen Optimized, a subsidiary of Key DH Technologies Inc., today announced that it has entered into a confidential Letter of Intent (LOI) with a large industrial company to provide more than 40 MW of RuggedCell(TM) water electrolyser capacity for hydrogen production.

The LOI provides for high current unipolar RuggedCell(TM) systems to be deployed at one or more sites by the company, which plans to roll out hundreds of megawatts of electrolyser capacity over time. It also specifies that the installed systems could be scaled up as demand for hydrogen grows.

“The signing of this LOI is a significant step forward in our commercialization process,” said Andrew T. B. Stuart, President and CEO of Hydrogen Optimized. “A key factor underlying the agreement is our system’s unique capability to double or more in capacity without requiring the installation of costly additional electrical and other equipment.”

Stuart added, “More and more potential clients tell us they are looking for a water electrolysis system that can be economically deployed in the tens of megawatts and can be expanded at a relatively low incremental cost as the MW rating of the project grows. The RuggedCell(TM) system makes this possible as it requires fewer power conditioning units to accommodate expansion. This contrasts with small module systems that must be fully replicated to increase output, and therefore cannot gain economies of scale.”

RuggedCell(TM) water electrolysis technology was designed from the start to offer important capabilities which were missing in the market. These include:

  • The use of low-cost materials that, unlike many other electrolysers in the market today, are free of iridium and other highly expensive platinum group metals;
  • Ease of mass manufacturing;
  • High-current architecture that uniquely enables individual hydrogen production modules in the hundreds of megawatts each; and
  • The proven capability of RuggedCell(TM) electrolysers to ramp from zero to 50,000 amperes in under 10 seconds and then very quickly reduce the current to any level, even down to zero amperes. This capability supports the system’s integration with intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind or solar, and with use on grids or micro-grids with widely varying power availability.

The main driver behind the mass deployment of water electrolysis is the need to reduce the carbon intensity of hard to abate industries such as ammonia, cement, methanol, steel, heavy duty transportation and other fossil fuel-intensive applications. Hydrogen produced with low to zero carbon dioxide emissions is widely recognized as key to achieving “net zero” emissions by 2050. To that end, recently the World Hydrogen Council called for hydrogen to contribute over 20% toward global carbon abatement by 2050.*

Gemilang International Limited secures contract to deliver 140 units of fully-electric school buses to USA in 2022

Gemilang International Limited(GML) – an Asia-leading bus and bus body manufacturer, is expected to deliver 140 units of fully-electric school buses to California, USA in 2022, as it continues to drive its mission to promote the adoption of environmentally-friendly solutions for buses and bus bodies.

Based in Johor, GML has designed and manufactured bus bodies, and assembled buses for over 30 years. Its notable projects recently include the Iskandar Malaysia Bus Rapid Transit (IMBRT), Sarawak’s 1st electric city bus for Kuching Metro, and an electric bus pilot project by the Sabah government for public transport.

GML has also been supplying aluminium buses for Go KL, Rapid KL, Rapid Penang and MRT feeder buses for the last 13 years.

The Hong Kong listed company (Stock Code: 6163.HK) said it has been supplying EV buses to the USA since 2016, while the market was still predominantly using fossil fuel powered vehicles.

“In fact, GML has been supplying bus bodies for various EV makers such as BYD and CRRC to several markets including Malaysia, Singapore, Australia since 2015, and we expect more countries to catch up with the transition to EV as an increasing number of climate change mitigation commitments have been announced by governments around the globe,” said Mr. Pang Chong Yong, Chairman and CEO of GML.

He further added that the order of 120 units of 12m-length school buses and 20 units of 7.5m-length school buses was remarkable not just because it was a breakthrough for the US market, but it is also the largest quantity from a single order of EV buses that the company has ever received.

Mr Pang highlighted that the EV school bus market in the US is enormous with exponential growth aspect. This is a result of the recently-announced Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal (Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act) which was signed into law by US President Joe Biden, committing $2.5 billion (approx. RM10.5 billion) to buy electric school buses for districts around the US.

“With the new plan to convert all 500,000 US school buses to zero emission vehicles, we are confident to capture more market share with our 3 decades of industry experience as well as our main competitive advantage – aluminium lightweight superstructure,” he added.

GML focuses on building environmentally-friendly bus and bus bodies, and have been using aluminium body solutions for more than 20 years.

“The lightweight, corrosion-free technology originates from Switzerland and has been proven by our customers from more than 15 markets around the world. Usually, our buses last longer and are deemed to be safer than steel-bodied counterparts, and I am pleased that this has helped us to expand our footprint in the US market,” concluded Mr Pang.

Ni Hsin Group Launches BB2GO EV Bikes for F&B Business

Ni Hsin Group Berhad’s (formerly known as Ni Hsin Resources Berhad) (“Ni Hsin”) subsidiary BlackBixon2Go Sdn Bhd (“BlackBixon2Go”), is pleased to announce the launch of BB2GO EV (“electric vehicle”) Coffee Bike for use in the sale of BlackBixon coffee.

The launch was attended by YB Tan Sri Noh Bin Haji Omar, Minister of Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives; various directors from BlackBixon2Go Sdn. Bhd., the EV Bike subsidiary of Ni Hsin Group Berhad and Ni Hsin Group Berhad.

These electric bikes are powered by a battery system specially configured to also provide the power for the coffee-making machine and is an extension of Ni Hsin’s cafe@anywhere concept under its food and beverage business. The bikes are equipped with GPS for easy tracking of orders and locations of BB2GO EV Coffee Bikes by coffee lovers using the BB2GO app.

BlackBixon2Go also signed an MoU with Acasia Communications Sdn Bhd (“Acasia”) to digitalise the new business concept through its connectivity and cloud services, supporting BB2GO app. Acasia, an affiliate of Telekom Malaysia Group, is a collaboration among seven leading telecommunications providers offering a comprehensive suite of connectivity services and digital infrastructure in the ASEAN region.

Mr. Khoo Chee Kong, Managing Director of BlackBixon2Go, said, “We have embarked on a transformation trail, from a traditional manufacturer of stainless-steel products to a new age business model riding on the EV Revolution with BB2GO EV Coffee Bike combining Malaysians’ love for coffee and the desire to maintain a green and healthy environment. This business concept is apt and fitting for the street food industry, it’s also very suitable for catering, open house and parties.”

“The BB2GO EV Coffee Bike is a totally self-sufficient bar that does not require an electrical outlet to power the coffee machine. The batteries from the EV Bike are technically configured to produce up to 400 cups of coffee and can be recharged after that. With BB2GO EV Coffee Bike you can be a barista, just as in a modern cafe, serving espresso coffee or cappuccino prepared in front of your customer’s eyes.”

Ni Hsin’s use of the electric bikes is part of the company’s commitment to environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) responsibilities as well as adopting a mindset change for business sustainability in the face of technological advancement. Ni Hsin is also observing, learning and innovating to improve the way it conducts business as part of its ESG responsibilities.

The Company is planning to expand the BB2GO EV Coffee Bike concept across ASEAN and is also planning to manufacture and assemble the electric bikes in collaboration with an established EV manufacturer from China for the commercial and consumer market in Malaysia and ASEAN.
