Joining him on stage for his last ever concert in Singapore were guest artistes Tay Kewei, Charlie Lim, Linying and Benjamin Kheng who thrilled spectators at the Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands. In a surprise appearance, JJ Lin who was among the spectators also joined in the performance.

Gentle Bones said, “It’s been a great journey since I started my ‘Gentle Bones’ YouTube channel for acoustic covers back in 2010, and I couldn’t have asked for more in my last ever concert in Singapore. By the end of the year, Gentle Bones will no longer be performing or participating in any activities locally, and I’ll be officially retiring Gentle Bones in Singapore.”

The concert was also attended by Guest of Honour Minister for Culture Community and Youth & Second Minister for Law Edwin Tong SC, who noted ONERHT Foundation’s efforts to play a part in supporting an inclusive Singapore.

He said, “The Foundation has done good work over the years, to establish, inspire and encourage a philanthropic culture of giving back to the community among the corporate and legal fraternity. I hope, as ONERHT, they will continue to serve with one heart and one mind, to help the beneficiaries in our community.”

Newly appointed Chairman of the Foundation, Ms Kaylee Kwok, said, “Music brings people together and we are pleased to have presented this charitable collaboration with local musicians for a good cause. In particular, we are very grateful to Gentle Bones for supporting this meaningful event.”

“The Foundation also marks a new chapter following its renaming to reflect its evolution as a common platform for corporate social responsibility and purposeful growth for ONERHT. With the strong support of the Foundation’s donors and sponsors, our Patron and Board of Directors, as well as management, lawyers and staff from across ONERHT, I will continue to advance the Foundation’s initiatives and programmes across its four core pillars of education, the environment and sustainability, disadvantaged groups, as well as the arts and sports,” she added.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank Mr Tan Chong Huat for his mentorship, guidance and encouragement during his tenure as Chairman of the Foundation,” said Ms Kwok.

During the handover ceremony (with Minister Edwin Tong as witness), Mr. Tan had handed over a symbolic Chinese scroll to Ms. Kwok, which read:

English translation: Chong Huat and Kaylee have led the Foundation well, and, Kaylee, who succeeds him shall build on it and bring it to another level of success and splendour.

Proceeds from the charity concert will help support the well-being of those hit hardest by the pandemic, such as underprivileged families, seniors, people with disabilities, and their caregivers.

Women of Venusverse “Genesis” Collection with NFT Validation by UREEQA now available on Opensea

Venusverse, an organization designed to give women insight into the world of Web3, announces the launch of a ground-breaking new NFT collection that will be protected by UREEQA, a leading digital validation company that helps creators protect, manage and monetize creative work.

Ten percent of revenue from the release will be donated to the CivicAction Leadership Foundation in support of women in the organization’s leadership programs. [Image: UREEQA]

The Women of Venusverse “Genesis” Collection of 2,022 NFTs is a one-of-a-kind art collection with membership access to the Venusverse community.

Ten percent of revenue from the collection will be donated to the CivicAction Leadership Foundation in support of women in that organization’s leadership programs, including the DiverseCity Fellows and the Emerging Leaders Network.

The “Genesis” Collection launched on April 19 on the Opensea.io marketplace.

“2,022” is somewhat of a representation of the number six (2+2+2), which is said to be the number of unconditional love and selflessness. Venus (named after the Roman Goddess of love and beauty) is the sixth planet in the solar system in terms of size and mass. And the 0 comes in because the stars aligned considering Venusverse launched as a company in 2022.

According to Venusverse CEO and co-founder, Janelle Chalouhi, the beautiful, eclectic and diverse 2,022 art pieces “represent women from across the world, bringing us all together under one collection.”

Chalouhi described to Ontario-based digital artist and designer Fatima Gharaibeh her vision behind representing diversity among women from across the world as well as the properties and layers she wanted to include in the collection and Gharaibeh brought the vision to life in a beautiful way. That is how the first 114 NFTs were first created, 104 of which are animated. The properties were then used to generate the remaining 1,908 NFTs through generative art.

“To me this was a nod to the new digital era we have entered into, where we use tech to enhance the work we do and hopefully to do good,” Chalouhi said.

Collectors who buy into the Genesis Collection of 2,022 NFTs will gain membership access to the Venusverse community, and they’ll also be granted peace of mind thanks to UREEQA.

THEMUSEUM’s CEO, David Marskell, introduced the two startups and asked both CEOs to serve on a recent panel with Museums Canada. It’s only fitting that THEMUSEUM will be hosting the Women of Venusverse launch event in May at their Voodoo Lounge followed by an exhibit.

The next step for Venusverse was to protect the collection, and that’s where UREEQA came in. The entire collection will be validated by UREEQA’s Responsible Minting(TM) technology, with the platform’s Package of Proof(TM) giving buyers the critical assurance that what they’re purchasing is the real deal.

“Since I decided to go this route, I knew that the provenance and the authenticity of the collection was so important, especially given the amount of scams that are happening right now,” Chalouhi said. “I needed the collection to essentially have a digital signature, which is why we’ve partnered with UREEQA to validate and authenticate the art, and to make the collection even more exclusive.”

“Not only is this UREEQA’s first opportunity to validate an entire NFT collection, but it also represents a chance for us to team up with a platform that shares similar values,” UREEQA CEO Kirk Fergusson said. “Both UREEQA and Venusverse are focused on launching and supporting art that is honest and authentic, and the best way to provide that assurance to a buyer is by having the work validated. We are thrilled to provide that for the 2,022 collection.”

A global network of validators will use UREEQA’s platform and technology to analyze the authenticity of the full collection. At the end of the validation process, a Package of Proof will be generated which documents all the steps taken by UREEQA and its validation team to verify the authenticity of the work. The key information is made available on a provenance page, which is contained in the Venusverse website, providing an easy-to-use resource for prospective NFT buyers to verify the authenticity of a creation of interest.

And because key information about the creative work’s authenticity is stored in a record on the blockchain, drop-day purchasers and those who buy the validated work on resale can be assured that they’re getting the legit product, no matter when or where they’re jumping in.

Jazz in The Jungle with Borneo Jazz Festival in June 2022

One of Southeast Asia’s longest running international jazz festivals – Borneo Jazz festival (BJ) – is back once again, bringing musicians of diverse cultural backgrounds together to celebrate jazz music and empower the local community.

YB Karim officially launched the Borneo Jazz 2022 festival, which will be in hybrid format at Miri International Airport today.

Themed “Jazz in The Jungle”, the Borneo Jazz festival will be held from 24 to 26 June 2022 in a hybrid format to reach out to the greater jazz-loving community worldwide. The physical concert will take place at Coco Cabana, Miri while viewers will also be able to livestream one-hour blocks of their performances from home.

With musical content curated by No Black Tie Presents, Malaysia’s foremost jazz promoter, music lovers can expect a spectacular mix of jazz and hip-hop, tribal vibes, world beats and electro-jazz grooves during the 17th edition of the Borneo Jazz festival.

Watch out for an eclectic mix of jazz musicians, rappers and DJs from USA, Hungary, Singapore, France, Malaysia and more lighting up the Borneo Jazz stage to celebrate cultural diversity, tradition and innovation.

Sarawak Arts Council’s band Sarawak Symphony Orchestra (SONS) will also be taking to the Borneo Jazz stage for the first time in a continued collaboration with Sarawak Tourism Board, with the aim to lift Sarawak’s local music scene.

The announcement on the highly anticipated annual event was made today by Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts along with Yang Berhormat Datuk Sebastian Ting Chew Yew, Deputy Minister of Tourism Sarawak, Yang Berhormat Mr. Dennis Ngau, Chairman of Sarawak Tourism Board, Mr. Hii Chang Kee, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board, Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar, Chief Operating Officer of MASwings representing Malaysia Aviation Group and Stephanie Kuan representing artistic director No Black Tie Presents.

During his speech, Yang Berhormat Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said, “With the theme “Jazz in the Jungle”, this year’s Borneo Jazz is about rejuvenating the jazz scene while being surrounded by the wonders of nature that are in abundance in Miri, the gateway to Northern Sarawak. As we all know, artistes and musicians have all been affected by the lockdowns, so Borneo Jazz festival serves as the perfect platform to rejuvenate, rediscover, rekindle and rebuild the jazz connection that was interrupted for the past two years.”

“The hybrid concert is the best way to go this year based on the positive response we have received from the Borneo Jazz Virtual Experience last year in 2021. For the record, the Borneo Jazz Virtual Experience 2021 three-day journey garnered 244,637 online viewers from 43 countries. This year, we hope to have a wider outreach to international audiences encompassing more countries.”

Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Tourism Board, Puan Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor said, “We are pleased to once again bring music lovers in Malaysia and around the world physically back to Borneo Jazz festival in Miri, the northern gateway of Sarawak”

“Last year, the music festival reached a broader audience given the virtual format, and we hope to continue this traction once again this year. Our goal is to provide our Sarawakian artists with an even bigger platform for their artistry to be recognised around the world.”

Chief Operating Officer of MASwings, Captain Nasaruddin A Bakar said, “We are delighted to support and celebrate the world’s culture through music by transporting travellers from all over the globe to Borneo Jazz festival this year. Travellers will be able to experience Malaysia’s proud history of its warm hospitality the moment they step onboard through our service and offerings that embody Malaysia’s incredible facility, capturing its rich traditions, culture and cuisines throughout their journey with us.”

The announcement was followed by the unveiling of Sarawak Tourism’s ‘More to Discover’ livery on three (3) MASwings ATR 72-500 aircraft as part of the one-year collaboration with the Sarawak Tourism Board. The interior of the aircraft is also painted with visuals of Sarawak’s tourist attractions such as events, food and culture and ecotourism destinations.

Captain Nasa who expressed his pleasure for MASwings to be the airline bearing the special livery added, “We are pleased to work together with Sarawak Tourism on the campaign which is expected to provide great visibility to promote Sarawak to the domestic market. Being the Pulse of Borneo, MASwings serves a specialised market, meeting tourists’ travel needs in terms of connectivity and affordable transportation. With the launch of Sarawak Tourism’s ‘More to Discover’ campaign on our turboprops, we trust that it will certainly help fulfil the government’s agenda to stimulate growth in tourist visits through tourism.”

Building up a sustainable musical tourism in Sarawak

“Our focus apart from positioning Borneo Jazz as a top-notch Jazz Festival in the region, is to empower and raise cultural awareness through Borneo Jazz Talent Search and Borneo Jazz FAB LAB platform, providing performance and networking opportunities, giving awards and recognition, as we strongly believe in promoting sustainability in the growth of arts & culture within the local community, and the importance of cultural exchange in fostering greater understanding between people of different cultural backgrounds which aligns with the STB’s and the state’s sustainable journey,” said Evelyn Hii, Artistic Director of Borneo Jazz festival 2022.

Borneo Jazz will feature performances by the winners of the nationwide Borneo Jazz Talent Search launched on April 1 for DJ, Jazz and Open categories. Together with Borneo Jazz Festival FAB Lab 2022, aspiring musicians will be given the chance to grow their musical talent alongside renowned local and international artistes while also contributing to the growth of Miri as the region’s jazz centre.

Additional activities around the Borneo Jazz festival will be the Eco Drum and Eco Art projects, both aimed to raise awareness towards creating a more eco-friendly and sustainable city.

UREEQA Brings Validation-as-a-Service to the NFT Marketplace

  • The VaaS solution will help NFT marketplaces, NFT collection creators, auction houses and other online platforms to crack down finally, on fraud, piracy and theft.

UREEQA, a leading digital validation company helping creators to protect, manage and monetize creative work, has today announced the launch of its new Validation-as-a-Service (VaaS) solution, designed to tackle NFT fraud and protect NFT creators.

Certainly, any solution will involve validating a creator’s identity. However, Ureeqa was conceived of the notion that it was as important to validate the authorship and ownership of every creation as well, a factor lacking in current NFT marketplaces, most of which focus on the ease with which creative pieces can be initialized and sold.

UREEQA’s unique platform fixes this by employing its VaaS solution to generate a Package-of-Proof(TM) and a Responsibly Minted(TM) NFT, which come together to serve as evidence that the creator and the creation have been authenticated and are legitimate.

“The initial exchange models were adopted by NFT marketplaces on the fly, hurried and so demand-focused that it enabled bad actors to take advantage of the situation,” UREEQA CEO Kirk Fergusson said. “Efforts need to be made to curb the abilities to perpetrate fraud as easily in the first place. Then, we have the answer with a patented process and blockchain-based solution that can be integrated into most NFT platforms.”

UREEQA’s revolutionary system — which has been tried and tested by renowned artists on the company’s own marketplace — is a creator-centric hybrid approach to validation and IP protection. The platform’s patented validation process enables verification via a centralized model, while generating a Package-of-Proof on the blockchain for anyone to see in decentralized fashion.

Any ETH-based NFT sales platform can integrate the core components of the UREEQA platform into their marketplace, just like that. And so too can any auction house or creator association.

Participating marketplaces can visibly delineate creations that have gone through this thorough assessment process — highlighting the extra steps that creators have taken to instill confidence amongst prospective purchasers.

“Building scalable world-class NFT marketplaces to address early adopter demand has taken considerable effort over the past year,” Fergusson added. “At UREEQA, we’ve spent the last 18 months building a validation solution designed to support creators first and foremost — and this patented technology is now available to NFT marketplaces to eradicate fraud and instill trust in the creations they’re offering through their platforms. By leveraging our VaaS solution, NFT marketplaces can quickly work to stamp out fraud while preparing their marketplaces for broader mass market adoption.”

The UREEQA platform strives to protect creators’ work, their rights and their revenue by harnessing the power of blockchain technology. UREEQA provides value and opportunities for its creators, validators and token holders via URQA, the token at the heart of the UREEQA ecosystem.
