Subang Parade Celebrates CNY with Persatuan Rumah K.I.D.S and Rumah Charis

  • Mall brings festive cheer to children with movie screening of “Puss in Boots” and special treats

Subang Parade, the popular neighbourhood mall located in the heart of Subang Jaya since 1988 and a core property owned by Hektar REIT, today celebrated the lunar new year with children and representatives from Persatuan Rumah K.I.D.S and Rumah Charis with a fun-filled programme including a movie and special treats.

The programme, which was held at the West End Concourse of the mall, was graced by the attendance of Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ) councillor and Majlis Perwakilan Penduduk (MPP) Zone 1 chairman En. Chia Yew Ken. Hosted by Subang Parade management, the event was led by Senior General Manager En. Nubly Zainuham bin Ambotang and attended by officials from Hektar REIT.

To kick start the event, the children were entertained by mascots and were then treated to lunch at McDonald’s, where the festive cheer really took off as invited guests, employees of Hektar REIT and children bonded together over their favourite meals. Angpows were given to the children much to their delight, while a Box of Blessings and cheques were presented to representatives from Persatuan Rumah K.I.D.S and Rumah Charis. After lunch, the children were surprised with a screening of “Puss in Boots” movie at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) located on the first floor in the shopping centre. The unique thematic hall for children was reserved especially for the kids by GSC.

Senior General Manager of Subang Parade, En. Nubly Zainuham bin Ambotang, who wished everyone a healthy and happy Year of the Rabbit, said, “As we all busy ourselves in this festive season meeting up with family and friends, let us not forget those who are in need of a little love and kindness from all of us. We are happy although it was just for a few hours, to be able to put a smile on the children’s faces and hopefully give them a day to remember.”

MBSJ councillor and MPP Zone 1 chairman En. Chia Yew Ken said, “Every little bit counts, including giving the kids a safe and healthy environment to grow and mature to be well-adjusted adults. It is extremely important that children are raised in an atmosphere which is family-based, as this helps in ensuring their wellbeing. This is what Persatuan Rumah K.I.D.S and Rumah Charis strives to do”.

En. Chia also noted that according to OrphanCare, an NGO, there were an estimated 64,000 children living in registered and unregistered childcare institutions in both government and private orphanages.

To celebrate the 2022 Football Season, Subang Parade has lined up a host of family-friendly activities at LG, East End Concourse from 26 November to 11 December, which includes Shoot For Glory, Football Juggling Performance, Football Skills Workshop and 3 vs 3 Futsal Contest for children aged 7-12 years.

The Media launch event on 24 November was officiated by Subang Jaya State Assemblywoman YB Michelle Ng Mei Sze, Executive Director & Chief Corporate Officer of Hektar Asset Management Sdn Bhd (the Manager of Hektar Real Estate Investment Trust) Puan Zarina Halim and attended by professional football player Shivan Pillay.

Puan Zarina Halim said, “This is a great opportunity for families to come together for some fun and games as the year-end school holidays begin. Subang Parade is a community-centric mall, and in line with our focus on the social aspects of Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG), our priority remains to provide a great retail experience and promote wholesome activities that encourage engagement & physical well-being of our community. This also aligns with our commitment to United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Good Health and Well-Being.

Shivan said, “This Football Fever is a good platform to promote football not just as a game but as a sport for healthy living among children. It’s also about teaching them healthy competition and the meaning of teamwork and at the same time, picking up skills on how to kick the ball, pass the ball and play as a team.”

Among the activities lined up is the Shoot for Glory challenge, in which shoppers can win lucrative prizes by shooting balls into target goals. The pool of prizes is worth more than RM10,000, which includes a 70-inch LG 4k TV, Samsung S22, Apple Watch SE and five Consolation Prizes throughout the campaign period. There will be a special football juggling performance, football clinics catered for kids and adults, as well as a juggling contest every weekend from 7 pm – 9 pm.

The highlight is the 3 vs 3 Futsal contest on 10 and 11 December 2022, held at the mall’s LG, East End Concourse. This futsal contest is open to children in two categories – 7 to 9 and 10 to 12 years old. The competition has received overwhelming response and at least 24 teams are competing for each age category. Terms and conditions apply for all the football activities mentioned above.

Subang Parade Hosts Fashion Show at its Merdeka Fiesta

Spectacular fashion showcase by Calvin Thoo and local designers at Batik, Tenun and Songket Fashion Show

Subang Parade, a core property owned by Hektar REIT, is pleased to announce the kick-off of Subang Parade Merdeka Fiesta weekend with an inaugural fashion show featuring local designers this afternoon.

The opening event saw fashion lines unveiled by local designers Calvin Thoo, Toods, Deez, My Syakirin, Tengku Kery, ByTwoo and Bujins. The launch of the Merdeka Fiesta was graced by the attendance of YAM Tengku Temenggong Perlis Dato’ Seri DiRaja Syed Amir Abidin Jamalulail, YM Che Puan Temenggong Perlis Datin Seri DiRaja Farinawati and Johari Shukri bin Jamil, Chief Executive Officer of Hektar REIT. Also in attendance were business associates, corporate figures and representatives from Subang Parade tenants.

Internationally known fashion designer Calvin Thoo, famed for his passion for fine fabrics and intricate embroidery of modern baju kurung, and celebrated for his specialisation in traditional clothing and cuttings, showcased his special lines reminding the audience of the spirit of Merdeka.

He said, “My inspiration for today’s line is the independent expression of tradition meeting the 21st century, captivated yet, reminiscent of bygone days.” Thoo has participated in fashion shows in Paris, Australia, China, Thailand and Indonesia and has designed for the Royal Families of Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Johor and Perlis. His self-named boutique is located in Kuala Lumpur on Jalan Imbi.

Celebrities including Ifa Raziah, Yasmin Hani, Dynas Mokhtar and Suki Low, were also present with their booths of locally made merchandise at the bazaar. Other booths with interesting merchandise include Moore Authentics, Pretty Suci and Inner Sejuk.

Commenting on the weekend event, Johari said, “As the sponsor and a proud Malaysian, Subang Parade is honoured to present Merdeka Fiesta and today’s Batik, Tenun and Songket Fashion Show. We take great pride in showcasing our culture and the best of Malaysia. The Subang Parade Merdeka Fiesta from 27 August to 31 August 2022 has activities lined up, including fashion shows, performances by local celebrities, a bazaar featuring locally made and produced merchandise, local cuisine cooking demonstrations, hobby demonstrations and a petting zoo to bring families, neighbours and friends together.

Subang Parade Holds Merdeka Fiesta to Celebrate National Day

  • Batik, Tenun and Songket Fashion Show, Bazaar and Petting Zoo among events held over 27-31 Aug 2022
  • Sharing sessions and cooking demonstrations among line-up of activities over the Merdeka week

A host of family-friendly activities is being rolled out by Subang Parade, a mall owned by Hektar Real Estate Investment Trust (Hektar REIT), taking inspiration from the theme for the country’s National Day, Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama, or “Malaysian Family, Strong Together” while supporting local culture and designers.

Aptly named Subang Parade Merdeka Fiesta, held over 27-28 August and on 31 August 2022, the activities include fashion shows celebrating Malaysia’s rich Batik, Tenun and Songket traditions and showcasing homegrown talents as well as a bazaar featuring locally made and produced merchandise, local cuisine cooking demonstrations, hobby demonstrations and even a petting zoo to bring families, neighbours and friends together.

The launch of Subang Parade’s one-of-a-kind fashion show on 27 August will feature designers such as Calvin Thoo who is known for his specialization in traditional fabrics.

Puan Aldela Puspa bin Nordin, CEO of Hektar Property Services Sdn Bhd, the property manager of Subang Parade said, “Merdeka Fiesta is put together to bring awareness among Malaysians of the rich heritage and common interests, values and history of the country, helping to build a firm foundation for the future. The Batik, Tenun and Songket fashion show as well as the display of mostly locally produced merchandise will be a good showcase of all things Malaysian.”

Calvin Thoo explained, “Batik is Malaysia. The intricate art of making quality Malaysian batik fabric and tenun weaving remains a traditional process and the skills that are being passed on from generation to generation in family businesses and in associations must be preserved. Batik fabrics has been adopted over the generations from the Malays by the different ethnic groups in Malaysia’s multicultural society.”

There will be a special showcase of the traditional batik and songket handmade and designed by the residents of Penjara Kelantan, a proud initiative under Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Puan Temenggong Kelantan Tunku Puan Sri Dato’ Hajjah Noor Hayati binti Almarhum Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra al-Haj’.

Over the three days of the Subang Parade Merdeka Fiesta, there will also be a pet adoption campaign alongside a petting zoo. There will also be tutorials and demonstrations of, among others, makeup and terrarium building. For hijabistas, there are tutorials happening on 28 and 31 August.

Dato’ Zamzani Abdul Wahab, popularly known as ‘Chef Zam’, a popular Malaysian celebrity chef, will be showcasing his culinary expertise on 31 August 2022 through several cooking demonstrations. There will also be performances by widely known artistes.

The Merdeka Fiesta showcases our Malaysian culture and roots that we want to not just uphold but share with the rest of the world. These includes not just our culinary traditions but also our fashion and art as can be seen from the batik and songket designs presented here.”
