BayWa r.e. Solar Trade Partners with Huawei to Launch EV Chargers in Thailand, Reinforcing Commitment to Thailand’s Sustainable Energy Transition

BayWa r.e. Solar Trade, the solar trading arm of the global renewable energy developer, service provider and solar distributor, launched the sale of Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers in partnership with Huawei in Thailand at the ASEAN Sustainable Energy Week 2023.

BayWa r.e. and Huawei unveiled the EV Chargers at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) in Bangkok, officiated by Junrhey Castro, Managing Director of Solar Trade in Southeast Asia, and Nitinan Pooltananan, Business Development Manager at Huawei Digital Power Thailand.

Junrhey Castro, Director of Solar Trade in SEA, shared his perspective on the collaboration, stating, “As a recognised leading Solar Trade Business, we are thrilled to be working together with Huawei in promoting EV charger technology in Thailand. We are committed to helping the country in setting up charging stations nationwide through our partners and customers. We hope to make EV chargers readily accessible and empower individuals and businesses to actively participate in the transition to clean transportation solutions.”

Thailand’s commitment to carbon neutrality and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions at COP26, combined with the unexpected uncertainty in oil and gas prices, has accelerated Thailand’s EV market to a new peak. At the beginning of 2022, Thailand rolled out several tax-related measures to boost domestic EV demand, including exemption or reduction of import duty and excise tax and conditional subsidies for imported EVs.

Thailand, as a regional auto manufacturing hub, is the key force in driving the region towards the EV car transition, with the country accounting for almost 79% of all EVs sold in Southeast Asia in the first quarter of 2023. By 2023, Thailand aims to have EVs account for 30% of its annual car production of 2.5 million vehicles. To support this goal, infrastructures integrated with smart supply-demand management should be in place to enable the transition towards decarbonizing the transport industry.

BayWa r.e. sells Karadoc Solar Farm and enters into Strategic Development Agreement with Atmos Renewables

Global renewable energy developer, service provider, and solar distributor BayWa r.e. announces the sale of the Karadoc solar farm and the strategic development partnership with Atmos Renewables (Atmos) for a series of wind projects, marking a significant milestone in the company’s commitment to renewable energy development in Australia. BayWa r.e. is committed to the redeployment of resources from the sales proceed and further investments in its existing pipeline of 5GW in the Australian renewables market.

The Karadoc solar farm represents BayWa r.e.’s first owned and built solar plant in Australia, and it stands as one of Australia National Electricity Market (NEM)’s largest operating solar projects in terms of capacity. Situated around 25 km south of Mildura, Victoria, Karadoc has a capacity of 112.5 MWp and became operational in 2019. Featuring over 346,000 solar panels, this facility generates sufficient energy to cater to 47,000 households.

The partnership between BayWa r.e. and Atmos, a prominent player in the Australian renewable energy landscape, underscores BayWa r.e.’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth in Australia. Daniel Gaefke to join Group Management Board as BayWa r.e. plans to triple capacity of wind and solar project development

BayWa r.e. is appointing Daniel Gaefke to its Group Management Board as the business continues to focus on the expansion of its global Wind and Solar Projects business. Currently Director of Projects APAC, Daniel will join CEO Matthias Taft, CFO Mihaela Seidl and COO Guenter Haug on the Board.

As the global renewable energy transition continues to accelerate, BayWa r.e. has set the goal of tripling the capacity of current wind and solar development by 2026 and building its Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio to 3 gigawatts (GW).

In support of realising these goals, Daniel will take responsibility for BayWa r.e.’s onshore Wind and Solar Projects businesses. He will also take responsibility for the company’s Energy Solutions business, which is helping corporations in their own energy transition.

Daniel joined BayWa r.e. in 2016 as Director of Projects APAC and has overseen BayWa r.e.’s successful growth throughout the APAC region, including market entries and expansion throughout Southeast Asia, Korea, Japan and Australia.

Taft will also continue to take responsibility for BayWa r.e.’s growing offshore wind business as it builds on recent successes and further establishes itself in the market.

BayWa r.e.’s Unwavering Dedication to the Community of Lang Son Province with Improved Commune Cultural House

Global renewable energy developer, service provider and solar distributor, BayWa r.e announced the successful completion and handover of the Khau Dang Commune Cultural House in Lang Son Province, Vietnam. This exemplifies BayWa r.e.’s unwavering dedication to actively supporting and enriching the communities in which it operates, as well as nurturing enduring relationships with the community it serves.

BayWa r.e., in close collaboration with the Van Quan district people’s committee, supported the construction of the commune cultural house located at Khau Dang hamlet, Trang Cac Commune. The new commune cultural house will be able to foster community cohesion, facilitate annual general meetings and accommodate diverse activities, benefitting 500 people in more than 94 households, mostly Tay and Nung people who belong to the ethnic minority group.

The 360 square metre (m2) facility is a substantial increase from the previous culture house, which could only host 25 individuals. The project started construction in March 2023 and was officially handed over on 6 June 2023.

Nam Le, General Manager, BayWa r.e. Vietnam, said, “The commune cultural house would never have been realised if not for the continuous efforts made by the local district and villagers in overseeing this project. BayWa r.e. is committed to addressing the needs of the locals through regular communication and consultation with the local authorities and communities to ensure that all voices are heard. Vietnam is an important market for us, and we believe that we should not only build facilities for environmental sustainability, but we should also focus on creating long-lasting relationships within and with the local communities.”

Chu Tien Hoang, Chairman of Trang Cac Commune People Committee, said, “We would like to thank BayWa r.e. for the precious support to our community. The new commune cultural house will encourage residents in the Khau Dang Village to organise cultural, sports and entertainment activities, helping them to bond and improve their quality of life with recreational activities. This initiative also meets the needs of the Vietnamese government’s National Targeted Program on New Rural Development under criteria six, cultural facilities, where we can hold larger events for the entire commune.”

The Khau Dang Commune Cultural House is the fourth project targeting the residents in the Lang Son province since 2021. In two years, BayWa r.e. built two sanitation facilities for two local primary schools in the Loc Binh district and supported the Cao Loc district’s initiative to recognise top-performing students and teachers by awarding scholarships, prize money and school bags.

BayWa r.e. Expands and Strengthens Renewable Energy Business with Wind Projects Representative Office Opening in Lang Son Province in Vietnam

Global renewable energy developer, service provider and distributor, BayWa r.e., today announced the opening of its Wind Projects Representative office in Lang Son Province, Vietnam. The opening of the Wind Projects Representative office will strengthen BayWa r.e.’s position as a key renewable energy developer in Vietnam and enable the company to provide a wider range of wind energy services in the country.

BayWa r.e. first established its presence in Vietnam in 2020, with its head office located at Ho Chi Minh City. BayWa r.e. launched new services to its ‘on-the-ground’ operation in Vietnam, opening a solar distribution warehouse and new office facilities in Ho Chi Minh City to bring direct local access to solar PV, inverters, and much more renewable energy solutions. Khuoi Lay Elementary School

Gender-segregated washroom facilities were built for both elementary schools, benefiting more than 40 students and staff members. These washrooms come equipped with water tanks and electrical wiring systems, and utilise a standalone septic tank that is easier to maintain while also being environmentally friendly. The recipient schools were identified in close collaboration with provincial authorities, as well as the Education Department of Lang Son province and Loc Binh district. Both schools were selected as priority targets due to a lack of modern sanitation facilities as well as their proximity to BayWa r.e.’s wind farms.

“We became aware of the sanitary challenges experienced by the Khuoi Lay and Suoi Long elementary schools during our greenfield development of the wind farms. With the support provided by provincial and district authorities, we were able to swiftly secure the necessary approvals, delivering the completed facilities in as little as three months from construction. Moving ahead, we hope to be able to extend this initiative to other schools across the province, facilitating the symbiotic growth of local communities alongside the expansion of our renewable energy footprint in Vietnam,” he added.

The official handover of the completed facilities took place physically in November 2021 for Suoi Long Elementary School, and virtually in December 2021 for Khuoi Lay Elementary School.

Mr Pham Hung Truong, Chief of Staff, Lang Son People Committee shared “BayWa r.e. is one of the first foreign investors explored and allowed to deploy survey for potential development and investment of wind farms in Lang Son. To date, more than 10 local and foreign investors have proposed to the provincial People Committee to invest in about 30 wind farms projects. Develop wind power, use renewable energy in the province is in line with the national strategy on power development towards 2030, with vision towards 2045, which encourages and prioritizes complete and effective usage of new, clean, and renewable energy resources. Lang Son province always supports and creates the best conditions for investors, at the meantime highly appreciates their contributions to the communities. BayWa r.e. contribution to the Khuoi Lay and Suoi Long elementary schools is very meaningful, helping pupils in remote areas improve their health and hygiene conditions. Hopefully, BayWa r.e. will continue partnering with local authorities, not only in its development and investment in wind business, but also helping the local community improve conditions in education, transportation and promote socio-economic development of Lang Son province.”

Despite the challenges presented by the global pandemic and an emerging energy landscape, the BayWa r.e.
