Hong Kong Investment Promotion Chief visits Middle East and Europe to promote Hong Kong’s long-term business opportunities

The Director-General of Investment Promotion of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Stephen Phillips, today (May 29) started his duty visit to Doha, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Kuwait in the Middle East, and Amsterdam, Lisbon and Madrid in Europe as part of the latest efforts of Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) to promote Hong Kong’s business attractions.

Mr Stephen Phillips

During the visit, Mr Phillips will meet with business leaders from various sectors including innovation and technology, financial services and family offices, fintech, business and professional services, tourism and hospitality, and transport, infrastructure and advanced manufacturing. Women of Venusverse “Genesis” Collection with NFT Validation by UREEQA now available on Opensea

Venusverse, an organization designed to give women insight into the world of Web3, announces the launch of a ground-breaking new NFT collection that will be protected by UREEQA, a leading digital validation company that helps creators protect, manage and monetize creative work.

Ten percent of revenue from the release will be donated to the CivicAction Leadership Foundation in support of women in the organization’s leadership programs. [Image: UREEQA]

The Women of Venusverse “Genesis” Collection of 2,022 NFTs is a one-of-a-kind art collection with membership access to the Venusverse community.

Ten percent of revenue from the collection will be donated to the CivicAction Leadership Foundation in support of women in that organization’s leadership programs, including the DiverseCity Fellows and the Emerging Leaders Network.

The “Genesis” Collection launched on April 19 on the Opensea.io marketplace.

“2,022” is somewhat of a representation of the number six (2+2+2), which is said to be the number of unconditional love and selflessness. Venus (named after the Roman Goddess of love and beauty) is the sixth planet in the solar system in terms of size and mass. And the 0 comes in because the stars aligned considering Venusverse launched as a company in 2022.

According to Venusverse CEO and co-founder, Janelle Chalouhi, the beautiful, eclectic and diverse 2,022 art pieces “represent women from across the world, bringing us all together under one collection.”

Chalouhi described to Ontario-based digital artist and designer Fatima Gharaibeh her vision behind representing diversity among women from across the world as well as the properties and layers she wanted to include in the collection and Gharaibeh brought the vision to life in a beautiful way. That is how the first 114 NFTs were first created, 104 of which are animated. The properties were then used to generate the remaining 1,908 NFTs through generative art.

“To me this was a nod to the new digital era we have entered into, where we use tech to enhance the work we do and hopefully to do good,” Chalouhi said.

Collectors who buy into the Genesis Collection of 2,022 NFTs will gain membership access to the Venusverse community, and they’ll also be granted peace of mind thanks to UREEQA.

THEMUSEUM’s CEO, David Marskell, introduced the two startups and asked both CEOs to serve on a recent panel with Museums Canada. It’s only fitting that THEMUSEUM will be hosting the Women of Venusverse launch event in May at their Voodoo Lounge followed by an exhibit.

The next step for Venusverse was to protect the collection, and that’s where UREEQA came in. The entire collection will be validated by UREEQA’s Responsible Minting(TM) technology, with the platform’s Package of Proof(TM) giving buyers the critical assurance that what they’re purchasing is the real deal.

“Since I decided to go this route, I knew that the provenance and the authenticity of the collection was so important, especially given the amount of scams that are happening right now,” Chalouhi said. “I needed the collection to essentially have a digital signature, which is why we’ve partnered with UREEQA to validate and authenticate the art, and to make the collection even more exclusive.”

“Not only is this UREEQA’s first opportunity to validate an entire NFT collection, but it also represents a chance for us to team up with a platform that shares similar values,” UREEQA CEO Kirk Fergusson said. “Both UREEQA and Venusverse are focused on launching and supporting art that is honest and authentic, and the best way to provide that assurance to a buyer is by having the work validated. We are thrilled to provide that for the 2,022 collection.”

A global network of validators will use UREEQA’s platform and technology to analyze the authenticity of the full collection. At the end of the validation process, a Package of Proof will be generated which documents all the steps taken by UREEQA and its validation team to verify the authenticity of the work. The key information is made available on a provenance page, which is contained in the Venusverse website, providing an easy-to-use resource for prospective NFT buyers to verify the authenticity of a creation of interest.

And because key information about the creative work’s authenticity is stored in a record on the blockchain, drop-day purchasers and those who buy the validated work on resale can be assured that they’re getting the legit product, no matter when or where they’re jumping in.

About UREEQA
Established in Canada in 2020, UREEQA is modernizing the inefficient and bureaucratic systems currently in place for copyright protection. By building a robust and compelling Package of Proof(TM) for source creative work, UREEQA only mints Validated NFTs to represent creative rights. This helps keep buyers safe by giving them confidence that the work they are purchasing was minted by the smart contract approved by the creator of the work and is therefore authentic.

The UREEQA platform strives to protect creators’ work, their rights and their revenue by harnessing the power of blockchain technology. UREEQA provides value and opportunities for its creators, validators and token holders via URQA, the token at the heart of the UREEQA ecosystem. FILMART Online and the first edition of EntertainmentPulse drew to a close on 17 March. The four-day dual events brought together around 8,000 industry talents from 81 countries and regions.
Gordon Lam (R) said the strengths of Hong Kong film continue to develop and he is sure that the old and new generations of filmmakers can come together and help to reinvigorate the local film industry.
Melody Hildebrandt, Chief Information Security Officer at FOX and President of Blockchain Creative Labs (R), shared her thoughts on non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

260+ mainland exhibitors featured
This year, FILMART Online welcomed exhibitors from more than 40 countries and regions, including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shaanxi, Ningbo, Xiamen, Taiwan, the European Union, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand, the United States and more. More than 260 exhibitors were from Mainland China. The largest number of companies were from Beijing, Zhejiang and Guangdong. The Guangdong Pavilion was organised by the Film Administration of Guangdong Province and the Radio and Television Administration of Guangdong Province. Not only have they gathered 40 outstanding production companies from across the province to participate, they also promoted the advantages of Guangdong as a shooting location.

Gordon Lam says Hong Kong films are gaining advantages
Acting as a bridge connecting East and West, Hong Kong productions have shone internationally over the years, highlighting the uniqueness of the city’s own culture, content creation and distribution. In a session titled “Rediscovering the ‘Hong Kong Production”, Hong Kong actor and film producer Gordon Lam shared his views on the city’s film industry. “The strengths of Hong Kong film continue to develop with more diversified themes and new talents joining the industry, to meet the expectation of the increasingly demanding audience, I am confident that the old and new generations of filmmakers can come together to reinvigorate the local film industry.”

Mainland China productions reach global audience
The entertainment industry in Mainland China has seen robust growth in recent years. An abundance of quality films and TV dramas have been produced and distributed to international markets, winning over audiences with a diverse and sophisticated range of content. Karen Fu, CEO of Huace Group, unveiled the secrets behind the success of the mainland’s entertainment industry. “We are constantly on the lookout for new subjects. Themes based on the reality of daily life are very well-received in international markets,” she said.

BONA Film Group continues focus on realistic social subjects
In the seminar session titled “Experience and Innovation of the Chinese Film Industry”, the discussion focused on the development and breakthroughs of film production in Mainland China in recent years, as well as the reform of cinema operators and the application of new technologies. Yu Dong, founder, Chairman and CEO of BONA Film Group, said: “In recent years, BONA Film has continued to focus on realistic social themes, keenly capturing some of the scenes and characters that have deeply touched our country.”

NFTs boosts participation in digital asset market
Non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces are bringing new digital experiences for creators and brands to interact with their communities through trading, unlocking and collecting memorabilia and exclusive content. Melody Hildebrandt, Chief Information Security Officer at FOX and President of Blockchain Creative Labs (BCL), explored how NFTs are becoming a new medium for content creators, intellectual property owners and advertising partners to monetise content, facilitate content distribution and create engaging fan experiences. “Collectibles are not the endgame for NFTs at all – this is just the beginning. We will see how people use this sense of digital ownership as a foundation to activate communities and gain a much more hands-on participation in the content they love,” Ms Hildebrandt said.

Online platforms accessible until 17 May
The online portals for FILMART Online and EntertainmentPulse will be open for access until 17 May. Users can revisit insightful content from EntertainmentPulse on demand at any time and utilise the business matching services offered through the FILMART Online platform.

Explore with Xplr Me

Xplr Me (Explore Me) is a digital platform that connects students to tutors, life coaches, and mentors from anywhere in the world, while they are sitting in the comfort of their living room! Pick up a new hobby, learn a new skill, or just plain understand themselves better with the assortment of classes and courses on offer!

Xplr Me goes beyond academics, and is for all age groups and life stages, putting students in touch with educators and coaches from all around the world, who will guide them to success. With life coaches teaching students how to set goals and meet them, to career coaches who will help nail the perfect resume, Xplr Me is not an average enrichment site! Be constantly enriched with continuous guidance and mentorship that will set students up for success!

THE BIRTH OF XPLR ME

Founded by founder Nirali Mehta in 2021, Xplr Me was born from the frustration of having to find teachers and mentors for herself and her two kids. Traditional classes and teachers were bound by distance and location, and by logistics, especially with the limitations brought by the global pandemic. There was always that feeling of compromise between the best teacher and mentor, and what was on offer and convenient.

Xplr Me completely eradicated this pain point by bringing educational providers and professionals together on to one platform from across the globe. Now, with Xplr Me, anyone on the hunt for classes, mentorship or guidance can visit the website, find a course that best fits their needs, at a time slot that is convenient to them. Imagine, learning a whole new language from a native speaker to the basics of photography with a professional photographer.

Nirali, Founder of Xplr Me says, “Learning has always been a passion of mine and it has always been a source of frustration when I am unable to sign up for the classes I want. When I became a mom to two kids, I also began to juggle their schedules with mine, and in finding classes that balanced their learning, between academics and life skills. This experience really opened my eyes to how it’s really difficult to find the right person to teach you what you need to learn at your convenience. That was the starting point for Xplr Me. After all, learning should be part of our life’s journey, but struggling to learn need not be.”

EXPLORE WITH EASE

Xplr Me features a wide variety of classes from academics to alternative healing, mentorship, counseling, photography, and anything else under the sun. Enthusiasts could pick from an Ayurveda course one day to a Crochet class the next.

With the classes happening completely online, students and teachers don’t even have to be in the same country! This gives students the opportunity to learn from people all around the world, and not have to settle with what is closest to them.

On the tech front, Xplr Me uses virtual tools integrated within the platform, and a custom-built calendar and appointment function to empower students to pick and choose timings, class options and tutors. Students can also pick from pre-recorded sessions to live private one-on-one classes, and group classes.

Nirali adds, “The emphasis on non-academic topics was a very mindful one. Life and social skills are just as important, and I wanted to offer that to enhance learning. Furthermore, for adults, especially, it is so difficult to pick up a new hobby with either the stressors of time, work or family coming into play. Xplr Me removes all that so adults can explore and get excited about learning new things, or picking up old hobbies again! Because Xplr Me is so flexible, there really is a whole world to explore and it all starts on Xplr Me!”

Nirali’s goal for Xplr Me is to be a platform that will empower not only students but everyone to be able to come home and learn a new hobby, a new experience or a new learning opportunity without feeling constrained by geographical locations.

About Xplr Me

Founded by Nirali X in Nov 2021, Xplr Me (Explore Me) is an unconventional online learning platform that brings a diverse range of academic and non-academic courses to anyone in the comfort of their own homes. Xplr Me goes beyond academics and is for all age groups and life stages, putting students in touch with educators and coaches from all around the world. With courses from life coaches, guitar players, tour guides, and counselors, Xplr Me is not an average enrichment site.
