Loop Industries signs LOI with On AG to secure volumes from planned Infinite Loop(TM) manufacturing facility in Ulsan, South Korea

Loop’s breakthrough technology enables fiber-to-fiber recycling, offering the textile industry a closed-loop supply chain solution

Loop Industries, Inc. (Nasdaq: LOOP), a clean technology company whose mission is to accelerate a circular plastics economy by manufacturing 100% recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic and polyester fiber, and On AG, a sportswear brand and subsidiary of On Holding AG, today announced a Letter of Intent (LOI) signed by On to secure volumes of 100% recycled virgin quality Loop(TM) PET resin from the upcoming Asian Infinite Loop(TM) manufacturing facility in Ulsan, South Korea, which Loop is planning with its strategic partner SK Geo Centric. The Ulsan manufacturing facility is anticipated to break ground by end of this year.

The signed LOI follows a two-year period of collaboration between Loop and On, throughout which time a technical due diligence was completed validating Loop’s technology, while Loop(TM) PET resin was tested in On’s products. This partnership will provide On the ability to produce sustainable footwear and apparel using recycled materials, without the need for polyester fiber created from fossil fuels, which helps to reduce PET waste and the manufacturing footprint for On.

“Circularity is a main pillar in On’s sustainability process. We are happy to see that Loop is bringing their technology to commercial scale,” said Ilmarin Heitz, Head of Innovation at On. “This marks another huge step towards closing the fiber-to-fiber loop within the textile industry.”

“Loop’s technology enables fiber-to-fiber recycling, providing brands like On with a closed-loop solution to their supply chain,” said Giovanni Catino, Vice President of Sales and Business Development. “We anticipate that 60% of the feedstock utilized at our planned commercial manufacturing facility in Ulsan to come from polyester fibers which presents a significant opportunity for circularity for this material.”

Loop Industries is leading the way in sustainable and circular solutions for PET waste, allowing materials to be infinitely recycled without loss of quality or performance. Loop’s breakthrough technology enables low value PET waste to be upcycled into 100% recycled virgin-quality Loop(TM) PET resin which can be used in plastic products and food-grade packaging as well as polyester fiber applications. In addition to low value PET plastic waste, Loop also utilizes polyester fiber waste as feedstock in its process. By upcycling these materials, Loop’s technology helps supply brands with sustainable, recycled polyester fabric and offers a closed loop solution to the textile industry. This unique fiber to fiber recycling process is achieved through Loop’s patented depolymerization technology.

By leveraging Loop’s technology and securing volume at the upcoming Ulsan, South Korea manufacturing facility, On is implementing a bold and sustainable footwear strategy in the industry, taking a giant step forward in circularity. The partnership between Loop Industries and On showcases how brands can transition to a sustainable, environmentally friendly solution where materials can be recycled infinitely.

Eko SA Cahyanto said that as a partner country, Indonesia was pleased to be part of the world’s largest industrial exhibition, and this had a positive impact on Indonesia. Visitors to the exhibition had reacted positively to the Indonesia program as Hannover Messe 2023 Partner Country. The program included art performances during the opening ceremony, the opening of the Indonesia Pavilion, country night, business summits and several conferences. Exhibition-goers visiting the Indonesia Pavilion and the 157 co-exhibitors reflected Indonesia’s success as a partner country.

Dr. Gunther Kegel, President of ZVEI, noted that even though there were protests taking place simultaneously in various German cities, the five days of Hannover Messe 2023 drew hundreds of thousands of visitors. And in addition to business people, Hannover Messe also attracted political delegations from 50 countries. By comparison with other industrial exhibitions, said Dr Kegel, the Hannover Messe still outperforms among industrial exhibitions.

Dr. Jochen Kockler, the CEO of DMAG, said that the 130,000 visitors to the Hannover Messe would have the same goal in mind, fostering industry that was more resilient to climate change and more competitive. Additionally, countries including China, Korea, the Netherlands and America accounted for 43% of the visitors to Hannover Messe 2023. Furthermore, the Indonesia Pavilion at the Hannover Messe Fairgrounds had attracted around 75% of the large number of overall visitors to this years Messe.

In line with an improving Indonesian industrial sector following the pandemic, its role as partner country for the third time was also positive. The Executive Talk by ShareInvestor: Shrinkflex (Thailand) PCL (SET: SFT)

  • Shrinkflex on the move to be ASEAN’s leading Shrink Sleeve Label and Flexible Packaging manufacturer with sustainable products.

Mr. Sung Cheong Tsoi, Chief Executive Officer, Shrinkflex (Thailand) PCL (SET: SFT), revealed the company’s vision and commitment to being the ASEAN leading Shrink Sleeve Label and Flexible Packaging manufacturer and building sustainable growth through product innovation and the ESG movement.

1. How is the overall growth of Shrinkflex since listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and what are the growth prospects for 2023?
Shrinkflex (Thailand) Public Company Limited (SFT) was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the situation, we continued to grow according to the target. Regarding our business plan, which was informed to the market and investors previously, we brought funds to invest in building the second factory, purchasing machinery, and producing a new product line: flexible packaging.

Emphasizing our position as a leader in the Shrink Sleeve Label production industry, we have continued developing and introducing innovations to customers, including environmental-friendly products. In addition, as part of our sustainability policy and commitment to preserving the environment, we provide customers with a higher value, contributing to overall satisfying growth from 2020-2022.

2. What is the strength of Shrinkflex that keeps you above the competitors in the industry?
First, we have teams of specialists working here. Second, we consistently create innovations for our customers and always continue improving ourselves. For example, we can design and build our own molds, and we are the first manufacturer in Southeast Asian region to do commercialize in the Digital Shrink Sleeve Label. Lastly, another vital point is that our business partners vary in different industries, allowing us to produce shrink sleeve labels for many product categories, from food and beverages, cosmetics, drugs, and medical supplies, to household consumer goods – each requires expertise in different types of printing.

Therefore, all these factors create a significant advantage for Shrinkflex and empower us to grow alongside partners, quickly respond to environmental-friendly innovations, and stay above other suppliers.

3. What is the growth strategy for the next 3-5 years?
As I mentioned, since we entered the market, we have brought capital to expand the business by focusing on developing new product lines, such as flexible packaging, and finding innovations to meet environmental needs. In the next 3-5 years, we aim to capture around the two digits growth and become one of the leading Labeling and Packaging Solutions providers in Thailand and ASEAN.

4. Due to the movement and regulation pressure on the consumption and production of plastic these days, how has Shrinkflex prepared for changes?
Plastic may be difficult to disappear from our daily lives. So, how can we make it environmental-friendly? Whether recycling or reusing, these two solutions are the future of the shrink sleep label industry. At Shrinkflex, our shrink sleeve labels, with plastic bottles, can be processed and crushed into the recycling system. This innovation was certified by the American Plastics Recycling Association (APR), and we received the GreenShrink trademark last year. The qualification has proved another step toward success. In addition, we also offer flexible packaging that uses mono-material, which can be 100% recycled as well.

5. How has Shrinkflex established the ESG strategy? (ESG: Environment, Social, and Corporate Governance)
For many years before being listed on the stock market, Shrinkflex had been committed to driving the development of environmentally friendly products and sustainability schemes. Today, as a public company, our policy has been more functional and covers all departments.

For the Environment part, Shrinkflex provides concrete measures to reduce Carbon Footprint, such as oil and wastewater treatment systems, as well as solar panels installation in the factory. While the solar panels at our first plant help produce 450 kW of clean energy, the new set at our second factory will have the capability of up to 600 kilowatts.

For the social aspect, covering internal operations, business partners and nearby communities, Shrinkflex has demonstrated tangible actions reflecting our commitment to social responsibility. Especially for the employees, we emphasize personnel development and provide favorable welfare to improve their well-being.

For the corporate governance part, Shrinkflex has been rated 4-star corporate governance, known as the “Very Good” CG Scoring, by the assessment under the Corporate Governance Report of Thai Listed Company (CGR) project, powered by the Thai Institute of Directors Association (IOD). This award guarantees our excellent performance.

Finally, even before or after being listed in the market, I want to emphasize our consistent commitment to building a sustainable business. Whether by expanding strategic partners or adding value to our products and customers with various innovations, investors can trust Shrinkflex and grow sustainably with us.

Indonesian President and German Chancellor Attend Hannover Messe 2023 Opening Ceremony

Inaugural opening ceremonies for Hannover Messe 2023 took place on Monday night (16/4) local time in Hannover. Indonesia was once again given the golden opportunity to take on the role of an official partner country during this year’s event. Previously, during the Covid-19 epidemic, Indonesia had become a partner country in Hannover Messe 2021: Digital Edition. The opening ceremony of the largest industrial exhibition event was held on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 18:00 local time.

Joko Widodo, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, and Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, were present for the opening ceremony of Hannover Messe 2023, which was held at the Hannover Congress Centrum in Hannover. The inauguration by the two leaders of both countries marked the start of the annual exhibition, which has been running for more than 74 years.

At Hannover Messe 2023, Indonesia presented the theme “Making Indonesia 4.0.” The President stated that the theme is extremely relevant for Indonesia, which is undergoing economic transformation through innovation and technology. “Indonesia is currently implementing two big strategies, namely downstream industry and green economy,” said President Joko Widodo.

Moreover, the abundance of natural resources, the enormous demographic and market benefits, and a robust economy are factors that support the downstream industry policy. Therefore, Indonesia aims to lead the electric vehicle (EV) market with these encouraging factors. “Indonesia is very open to foreign investment and collaborative efforts to develop Indonesia’s downstream industries. Moreover, 21 commodities are predicted to achieve an investment value of USD 545.3 billion by 2040, according to the downstream industry roadmap,” the President added.

Indonesia has a strong commitment to preserving environmental sustainability in the green economy. Furthermore, in 2023, it is targeted that up to 23% of energy will come from new and renewable sources (EBT), and all coal-burning plants will be shut down by 2025. Indonesia must, however, ensure that the energy transition can provide the population with a reasonable price. “Of course, this effort will require financial support; it will cost at least USD 1 trillion until 2060. Therefore, to develop a green economy, Indonesia invites German investors. Again, Indonesia is very open to partnerships and investments,” said the President.

As stated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Chancellor of Germany said that Indonesia will soon become a member of the “cooperative climate club” due to its goal of completely decarbonizing the electrical sector by 2025. “Additionally, Germany will encourage investments totaling EUR 10 billion in Indonesia from the G7 countries. I invite all of you, German companies, to take this opportunity to ensure that this goal’s spirit is appreciated,” said Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

Following the event, Bettina Stark-Watzinger, the Federal Minister of Education and Research, presented the Hermes Award winner during the series of opening ceremony events, which were organized by Deutsche Messe AG (DMAG). All companies registered as exhibitors at the Hannover Messe 2023 events are eligible to participate in the Hermes prize event, which is the worldwide technological prize presented by Hannover Messe. The winner of the Hermes Award at the Hannover Messe 2023 is Bosch Rexroth, which is considered to meet the requirements for technological innovation, industrial benefit, environment, and society.

The Hannover Fairground will host the Hannover Messe 2023 during the next five days, ending on April 21, 2023. In this event, Indonesia collaborated with 157 co-exhibitors from industrial firms, including industrial startups, associations, industrial estates, Special Economic Zones, and educational institutions, as well as the National Capital of the Archipelago (IKN).
