Valuufy Selected by Global Tech Leader for Environmental Impact Assessment

Valuufy, a pioneering value measurement startup, has been selected by a global tech powerhouse and member of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ to carry out a comprehensive environmental impact assessment. The engagement, which began in March 2025, represents a significant milestone for the young Kyoto-based value creation specialist.

The project is based on the ValuuCompass™, an evolutionary system that transparently assesses impact and value creation for nature, one of the system’s seven stakeholders, and benchmarks the results against other leaders in the market. The client will receive the assessment and analysis later this month, with actionable insights on environmental performance across multiple dimensions.

Directing Sustainabiliy towards Value Creation

Kyle Barnes, CEO of Valuufy, said, “For a startup, especially from Japan, securing a major American tech giant as a client is extraordinary. This speaks clearly on how our approach resonates with forward-thinking organizations. We’ve built ValuuCompass on a solid foundation of academic rigour and practical business value — and that company responded to this combination.”

Addressing Critical Gaps in Sustainability Measurement
The tech heavy selected Valuufy after evaluating multiple sustainability assessment solutions. “Gaps and discrepancies exist in current sustainability benchmarking when factoring environmental and social considerations. We appreciate how Valuufy systematically evaluates all relevant topic areas using best in class industry standards coupled with a data-driven, quantifiable approach to derive actionable insights,” noted a company representative.

Breaking New Ground in Precision and Performance Benchmarking
Dr Philip Sugai, Director of Research at Valuufy, said, “What sets ValuuCompass apart is its unparalleled level of detail and methodological rigor. Unlike current frameworks that offer broad sustainability disclosure topics, we’ve developed specific, measurable subgoals for each objective. This granular approach enables something that’s been largely unattainable with existing frameworks – genuine benchmarking across companies and industries.”

“Traditional ESG frameworks mainly look back on what companies have already reported,” Sugai continued. “Our work focuses on the future and what matters most to business leaders — identifying specific opportunities to create value and reduce risk across their entire stakeholder ecosystem. For technology companies with complex global value chains, this perspective is particularly valuable.”

Directing Sustainabiliy toward Value Creation
This client relationship underscores a growing shift in how leading companies approach sustainability — moving beyond compliance reporting toward strategic value creation. Technology companies in particular face increasing pressure to demonstrate meaningful environmental improvements while maintaining competitive advantage.

Stated Barnes, “Future market leaders understand that sustainability isn’t separate from business strategy — it’s central to it. When organizations can quantify their impact and benchmark against competitors, sustainability becomes a concrete business advantage rather than a vague aspiration. It’s a fundamental shift from sustainability as compliance to sustainability as value creation.”

Olympus Medical Systems India Pvt. Ltd. (OMSI), an Olympus Group company, today announces the successful inauguration of newly constructed washrooms at eight government schools across major locations in India. This milestone is part of OMSI’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Program. By actively supporting community well-being and education through long-standing projects, OMSI and Olympus Corporation (Olympus), remain dedicated to supporting the next-generation education in India.

The WASH Program, a decade-long CSR project by OMSI, focuses on enhancing school infrastructure by constructing and renovating washrooms to ensure that students—especially girls—have access to clean and safe sanitation facilities. This initiative addresses critical challenges in sanitation, hygiene, and child health that directly impact education. Several reports highlight that one in four girls in India drop out of school due to inadequate toilet facilities, underscoring the vital importance of this initiative for promoting gender equality and educational continuity.

Over its fiscal year which ended in March 2025, the 10th year since the program began, OMSI constructed washrooms in eight government schools across four major locations—Delhi NCR, Kolkata, Chennai, and Mumbai. —This initiative provides improved sanitation facilities for over 2,700 students and ensures better hygiene standards for the school communities. The inauguration for these schools took place in March 2025, attended by OMSI leaders, school headmasters, and other officials. Over the past decade, the company has contributed to creating hygienic learning environments for approximately 7,000 students across 30 schools through this program.

This program, initiated in 2018, aims to improve student well-being through hygiene education, child safety awareness, and health check-ups, helping to combat malnutrition and instill lifelong healthy habits.

Since its establishment in 2009, OMSI has remained committed to enhancing health, hygiene, and awareness through these activities, positively impacting thousands of children across India and enabling them to pursue their education in a safe and hygienic environment.
“We at Olympus believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy and to receive a quality education. Through our CSR programs, we are proud to contribute to a brighter, healthier future for children and communities across India,” said Naoshi Kikumoto, Managing Director, OMSI.

Together with Olympus, OMSI will continue advancing global corporate citizenship to make people’s lives healthier, safer, and more fulfilling across India and beyond.

Olympus’ Other CSR activities in India:
Beyond its ongoing efforts in areas of hygiene and sanitation, OMSI also played a crucial role in supporting India’s healthcare infrastructure. In its fiscal year which ended in March 2025, the company supported the Saairaam Cancer Foundation in Salem, Tamil Nadu, and JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research), Pondicherry, by donating a Laparoscopic System and contributing to ENT (ear, nose and throat) cancer screening initiatives, respectively. These efforts aim to enhance cancer awareness, early detection, and treatment in underserved regions.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, in its fiscal year ended in March 2021 and 2022, OMSI supported Civil Hospital Gurgaon, with Antigen Test Kits, Viral Transport Medium Kits, canopy tents for testing camps, and rental vehicles for transporting samples and lab technicians. The company also donated a fully equipped ambulance, solar lights and other essentials to support the Earth Saviours Foundation. Furthermore, OMSI focused on strengthening infrastructure at Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) in remote areas across the country. Habitat for Humanity offers up to US$40,000 in grants for innovative youth-led housing solutions in Asia-Pacific

Habitat for Humanity is excited to engage young people in the Asia-Pacific region in creating innovative housing solutions through grants worth up to US$40,000. Through the Habitat Youth Solutions grant, up to 10 young people or youth organizations in the region can each win US$4,000 to start, scale up, or replicate culturally and contextually appropriate projects that help their local communities improve their housing conditions.

“Youth for Good Nepal”, which is one of the previous winners of the 2023 Youth Solutions Microgrant, organized eight workshops in Kathmandu, Nepal, for 321 participants to learn about earthquake safety and retrofitting techniques from experts. Through the grant, the team developed and distributed educational materials on disaster resilience, strategically partnering with 5 local government units, 5 youth clubs and local organizations, and 1 school in implementing the workshops.

Indo Gajahlah Kebersihan – Gajahlah Kebersihan, from Bandar Lampung, Indonesia, trained 30 community members on manufacturing ventilation blocks from recycled plastics. In just six months, the innovation re-used 220,000 pieces of plastics as building materials, preventing them from polluting marine environments. The organization also engaged 100 students, raising awareness about the coastal housing issue and how this solution addresses the need.

PHL Modern Balsa – The Modern Balsa Initiative from the Philippines built an indigenous community’s first floating sanitary facility in Sabang Adgawan, Agusan del Sur, with help from 89 local volunteers. The facility currently serves 411 households with a population of 2,053. In partnership with a government-run technical-vocational education agency, the initiative trained 45 community members on basic carpentry and masonry.

“The Asia-Pacific region is not on track to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, as U.N. data show. With rapid urbanization, climate change, environmental degradation and social inequality, sustainable cities and communities seem like a distant dream,” said Liz Satow, Area Vice President for Asia-Pacific, Habitat for Humanity International.

“But there is hope. The youth in Asia-Pacific bring a wealth of exciting and creative ideas, passion, and determination to address these challenges. When governments, civil society and communities join hands with the youth of Asia-Pacific, the partnership creates solutions that are grounded in the reality of their communities, and therefore, can be incredibly effective.”

The 13-year Habitat Young Leaders Build campaign attests to the youth’s potential and power to advance the cause of affordable housing.  Besides the grant, up to 40 shortlisted applicants will convene at the Youth Assembly in the Philippines in mid-2025 to network with experts in housing, urban development and project management, learn from previous grant winners, and ideate with peers from across the region. In addition, winners of the 2025 Habitat Youth Solutions grant will receive mentorship from experts and implementors from Habitat’s network of volunteer leaders and development partners.

Through such youth engagement and collaboration, about 4,000 individuals in up to 10 communities in the region will gain access to affordable housing.

Past winners of the 2023 Habitat Youth Solutions included Indonesian organization Gajahlah Kebersihan. They trained 30 community members in manufacturing ventilation blocks from recycled plastics. In six months, 220,000 pieces of plastics were reused as building materials instead of ending up as marine pollutants. About 100 Indonesian students also helped raise awareness about the risks of coastal housing and highlighted the innovative recycling initiative.

“Winning Habitat’s Youth Solutions Micro-grant was a game-changer for us. It allowed us to expand our impact, be more involved in sustainable building issues and connect with like-minded people and organizations,” said Dicky Alfandy, co-founder of Gajahlah Kebersihan.

Application for the 2025 Habitat Youth Solutions grant is open until April 13, 2025. Interested young leaders can learn more through the official web page.

The 17th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit 2025 Concludes in Ho Chi Minh City, Setting New Standards in Sustainability

The 17th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit 2025, themed “Scaling Impact and Redefining Value in Sustainability,” came to a successful close yesterday at the Mai House Saigon Hotel. The event marked a significant milestone in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, attracting over 200 experts, practitioners, NGO representatives, and media partners.

Hosted by The Pinnacle Group International in collaboration with the Sustainable Technology Centre, this year’s summit assembled industry leaders, policymakers, and subject matter experts to explore innovative ESG strategies and solutions to creating value for organisations and the community at large.  The event showcased insightful discussions, on pressing issues including climate action, transition finance, carbon emissions, diversity and inclusion, ethical governance, and community engagement.

“Green Man” Matthias Gelber captivates the audience at The 17th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit and Awards 2025 with his passionate keynote, urging businesses to embrace sustainable practices.

Industry Leaders Convene to Drive Sustainability and ESG Innovation

The summit brought together top industry leaders and experts to explore solutions for achieving net-zero goals and advancing ESG initiatives. Mr. Mai Lam Dong, Cluster President of Schneider Electric Vietnam & Cambodia, emphasized the urgent need for carbon reduction technologies to achieve a sustainable future. He highlighted the role of smart grids, AI-driven energy management, and automation in enhancing efficiency and reducing emissions. By integrating renewables, microgrids, and electrification, businesses can accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. With Vietnam’s net-zero commitments, he called for stronger collaboration between industry, policymakers, and technology providers to scale these solutions for lasting environmental and economic impact.

Building on this, Huang Yi Chun, Regional Leader for Climate Action & Sustainability at Gensler, shared how digital design is reshaping the built environment. He discussed AI-driven simulations and parametric design, suggesting ideas for businesses to integrate sustainability into urban planning and architecture to meet evolving regulatory demands.

Prof. Dr. Geoffrey Williams, a leading economist and government advisor moderated a panel consisting of leaders from Bridgestone Asia Pacific, PT Hengjaya Mineralindo, and PT TBS Energi Utama where they shared insights on embedding ESG into workforce development, responsible resource management, and financing sustainable growth.

Highlighting technology’s role in ESG transparency, Susanna Hasenoehrl, Head of Sustainability at SAP Asia, demonstrated how AI, big data, and blockchain are transforming sustainability reporting and corporate accountability in enabling faster and more accurate results.

In another panel where strategic partnerships in sustainability were explored, Dr. Doseba Sinay of World Vision highlighted the transformative power of collaboration in addressing social and environmental challenges, emphasizing the need for multi-stakeholder engagement to create lasting impact. He shared how World Vision’s initiatives—ranging from reforestation and clean water access to livelihood programs—have been strengthened through corporate and government partnerships. Speakers from HEINEKEN Vietnam, Sarawak Energy Berhad, and Evermos echoed this sentiment, discussing how businesses can integrate ESG principles into their operations through sustainable supply chains, circular economy models, and community-driven projects. The discussion reinforced that cross-sector collaboration is not just beneficial but essential for scaling meaningful and measurable sustainability outcomes.

The summit concluded with an inspiring keynote by Prof. Dr. Richard David Hames, urging businesses to remain committed to CSR and ESG as key drivers of long-term value. The event culminated in an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions, with Guest of Honour Mr Vu Minh Ly, Vice Director of Resource and Environment Communication Centre, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and Dr Tran Quy, President of Vietnam Institute of Digital Economy Development.

The Global CSR & ESG Summit 2025 concluded with a renewed commitment from industry leaders to scaling ESG initiatives and corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices that drive both environmental impact and business value. Delegates engaged in insightful discussions on integrating sustainability into corporate strategies, leveraging technology for ESG transparency, and forging partnerships to create long-term economic and social benefits. The summit provided actionable strategies for businesses to align profitability with purpose, ensuring that sustainability remains at the core of corporate decision-making.

On the second day, delegates explored the Mekong Delta, gaining firsthand insights into the intersection of sustainable tourism, local economic empowerment, and environmental preservation. The tour included a scenic cruise along the Mekong River, visits to traditional riverside villages and coconut processing workshops, and a sampan ride through the region’s lush waterways. Delegates also experienced the cultural heritage of the Delta through local folk music, seasonal delicacies, and an authentic riverside meal, reinforcing the importance of preserving both ecological and cultural landscapes in sustainability efforts.

Celebrating success! Recipients proudly display their awards at the 17th Annual Global CSR & ESG Summit and Awards 2025, recognizing their outstanding contributions to corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability.

CDP evaluates major corporations and institutions around the world based on their responses to questions on climate change measures, water resource management, and environmental issues. In this year’s assessment, approximately 24,800 companies participated globally, including more than 2,100 Japanese companies.

As part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, Olympus has designated “Carbon Neutral Society and Circular Economy” as a focal area. To contribute to the realization of a decarbonized future, Olympus established a target in May 2023 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its supply chain by 2040. In November 2023, Olympus received a net-zero2 certification from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)3, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.

In addition, Olympus is accelerating its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by improving manufacturing processes, promoting energy-saving measures, and phasing power consumption at its facilities to renewable energy sources. Recognizing the importance of reducing the environmental impact across its entire supply chain, Olympus is working continuously to develop environmentally friendly products, enhance logistics efficiency, and set emission reduction targets in collaboration with suppliers. These initiatives support both the company’s sustainability goals and the broader global effort toward decarbonization.

Comment from Yasuo Takeuchi, Olympus Director, Representative Executive Officer, and Executive Chairman and ESG Officer
“At Olympus, ESG principles are embedded in our corporate strategy as we work toward the realization of Our Purpose of making people’s lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling. Our recognition on CDP’s A list reflects our commitment to climate action and transparent environmental disclosure. We believe that contributing to the sustainable development and progress of the globe and society based on our founding spirit, by putting Our Purpose into practice, will allow Olympus itself to achieve sustainable growth and value creation.”

1: CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions. Founded in 2000, CDP pioneered using capital markets and corporate procurement to motivate companies to disclose their environmental impacts, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy.

2: Net zero refers to reducing greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1, 2, and 3*) by at least 90% in line with the latest climate science (1.5°C scenario). Remaining emissions (less than 10%) must be offset using equivalent credits derived from carbon sequestration and removal (such as afforestation and CO2 capture and storage) to achieve balance.
*Scope 1: Direct greenhouse gas emissions by combustion of fuels in our sites.
Scope 2: Indirect greenhouse gas emissions from our sites use of electricity, heat or steam supplied by other companies.
Scope 3: Other, indirect emissions of greenhouse gas emissions (excluding Scope 1 and 2).

3: SBTi is an international initiative jointly established by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), CDP, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the UN Global Compact. The initiative encourages companies to set science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets that align with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
