United States Infrastructure Bill Brings Cardano Billionaire to Washington

The recent debate over the Infrastructure Bill has made two things clear: The government will be regulating blockchain activities, but they don’t understand it well enough to do an effective job. For that reason, the Government Blockchain Association (GBA) and our partners are organizing Blockchain & Infrastructure (https://www.gbaglobal.org/event/blockchain-infastructure/), a two-day educational seminar to be held from 27-28 September 2021 in Washington DC, for government leaders and their staff. The educational content will be delivered to public sector organizations exploring blockchain and cryptocurrency.

Mr. Charles Hoskinson of Cardano will be speaking live from Washington, DC, and will also be broadcast to virtual attendees in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. This 2-day hybrid experience will be a crash course in blockchain and cryptocurrency training, followed by an evening reception for networking and meeting the speakers, including Charles Hoskinson, Scott Stornetta, and other blockchain pioneers. Live and virtual attendees will also be able to engage with Mr. Hoskinson and other participants through a conference app provided by Qbix.

In 2013, Mr. Hoskinson was one of the original founders of Ethereum. A few years later, he spearheaded IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong), whose key project is Cardano. Cardano’s market cap is currently over $69 Billion. IOHK sponsors blockchain technology research labs at the University of Edinburgh and the Tokyo Institute of Technology and is collaborating on a blockchain research project with the University of Wyoming. Mr. Hoskinson will be speaking at Blockchain & Infrastructure and will be networking with conference attendees during the evening reception on September 28.

The GBA Annual Achievement Awards

In April 2019, during the Guatemalan election, the people of Guatemala suspected that voting fraud had occurred. Since additional elections were scheduled for August 2019, citizens wanted assurance that there would be no fraud in the next election. That was the impetus for Fiscal Digital, a Guatemalan citizen volunteer organization, to utilize a public immutable blockchain for their elections. Against overwhelming opposition, the Organizer of Fiscal Digital, Carlos Toriello Herrerias, was successful in implementing a blockchain-based voting solution in Guatemala. Carlos was the winner of last year’s GBA Annual Achievement Award for Courage.

The Government Blockchain Association (GBA) is pleased to announce that the 2021 Annual Achievement Awards will be happening live in Washington DC, (9/30/2021) as part of Government Blockchain Week. Four awards will be presented in the areas of Leadership, Innovation, Social Impact and Courage. Nominations of individuals deploying exceptional blockchain use will come from around the globe. From securing land titling records, to self-sovereign medical records, to immutable and verifiable voting, blockchain is affecting every industry that transfers value. The winners of these awards are truly making a mark in history, and there is still time to nominate your colleague.

Winners will be awarded by MC Robert Levin of Emergingstar Capital, from a stage in Washington DC in front of a distinguished audience. Receiving a GBA Annual Achievement Award is a credential that can be listed on Linked In, resume, and any other social media as a recognized global achievement. Do not miss this opportunity to promote the exceptional achievers in your circle. Nominate them for the GBA Annual Achievement Awards today.

Annual Achievement Awards (https://www.gbaglobal.org/gba-annual-achievement-awards-2021/) nominations are open until August 15. Winners will be announced from stage in Washington DC on September 30th. All uses of blockchain technology are eligible.

A Blockchain Art Show?

The Government Blockchain Association (GBA) will host an Art Show during Government Blockchain Week, (9/27-10/02,2021), in Washington DC. All submissions will be digital, and the show will be converted to NFTs, available for auction. Hundreds of attendees at Government Blockchain Week will vote on the show, sampling a mobile voting app, created by VOATZ, in a non-threatening contest.

‘Contemplating Life’ by Kylo Hemmingway

Wait, it gets better. The 5 winners, one for each category listed below, will be recognized from the stage of the US Capitol. Winners need not be present to win, however, being awarded a trophy from the stage of the US Capitol is an experience like no other.

Unfortunately, there is one major deterrent to artists submitting their work. It’s blockchain.

As I mentioned, there will be 5 winners from 5 categories. They are:
1) Creativity/Originality. How innovative is this idea?
2) Practicality. Could this idea work?
3) Helpful/ Humanity. Does this idea help anyone?
4) Involvement. Is the artist involved in the deployment of this project?
5) Visual appeal. How pleasing is the image to behold?

These 5 categories must all relate to a blockchain connection.

So, how can blockchain translate into an image?

Here are some suggestions:
– Land Titling: Many poor farmers and landowners in 3rd world countries do not have secure titles to their land, even after generations. Blockchain records could secure their claims.
– Fair Trade: Irreputable practices govern coffee, chocolate, and rice harvesting. Blockchain records can track the supply chain, eliminating deception.
– Cannabis: Many states rely on cryptocurrency for their dispensaries since the US dollar cannot be used for cannabis.
– Others: Healthcare. Artificial Intelligence. Banking. Aviation, Cybersecurity, Education, and more. For a list of Blockchain applications, check out GBA Working Group List (https://www.gbaglobal.org/working-groups/).

Submissions open until August 15. Don’t hesitate. Submit your work today.

The Impact of Cryptocurrency Adoption on Government

Cryptocurrency use is growing exponentially, and governments may want to consider the benefits. Why are blockchain and cryptocurrency so popular right now? Why have business whales and finance execs invested large cash reserves into cryptocurrency? They hope to benefit from this colossal opportunity. Visual Capitalist, in an April 2021 article, remarks that Bitcoin, compared to other tech companies, is the fastest asset to reach a $1 Trillion market cap.

In March of 2020, Bitcoin’s price was coming in at around $3K. As of May 11, 2021, Bitcoin was $56,551.44. Per coin. And Bitcoin is only one of over 4,000 cryptocurrencies according to Investopedia in a January 2021 article. This growing trend presents a new challenge for governments.

Cryptocurrency sits on top of a technology called blockchain. Blockchain is a database network that supports the transfer of value in a digital format. It is an independent system not owned by any institution, individual, bank, or entity, (read, government). As more cash moves into this crypto arena, governments will lose visibility and control of their national currency. How will that affect them?

The Government Blockchain Association, (GBA)?s Tax Working Group has written a Whitepaper entitled, ‘The Impact of Cryptocurrency Adoption on Government’. This 138-page document is the result of a full year’s worth of research and analysis, done by a team of authors with expertise in tax risk analysis, data, research analytics, cryptocurrency, digital assets, business, and blockchain. This report was not financed by any major corporation or interest group. The authors were all volunteers and were not influenced by a sponsor?s desired outcome. This paper was written to find an answer to a question.

How will this monumental transfer of fiat money into cryptocurrency affect governments and their citizens? Be assured, it will affect them, and the governments that understand this change can better prepare for what is coming.

The Impact of Cryptocurrency Adoption on Government whitepaper is available for download purchase.

Now in its third year, Blockchain Ireland is hosting a week-long series of digital events to celebrate and educate the Irish audience on Blockchain, a truly transformational technology. This year the theme is: Blockchain: Foundation of Trust. Blockchain is most often recognised as the technology that underpins Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Jillian Godsil, co-founder and editor in chief of Blockleaders says: “I frequently speak on a global basis on why Blockchain needs Women and I am delighted to address this issue on home soil. While blockchain and cryptocurrency are one of the most dynamic and exciting industries today, there is sadly a huge dearth of women represented in this sector. Blockchain is too important to be left to men alone.”

The Blockchain Ireland week runs from May 24 until May 27 and will offer digital events across the country covering social impact and public services, sustainability, start-ups and innovation, enterprise, developers and more. There is an impressive array of some X Speakers drawn from the World Economic Forum, the European Commission, Irish government, industry, academia, entrepreneurs, and the indigenous technology sector.

The line of up international speakers from Africa, Asia, Australia, and the United States will join speakers from Ireland to speak on use cases and experiences from craft brewing and bloodstock sales, to green energy and agri-food traceability.

The event is organised by Blockchain Ireland which is a non-profit organisation of state agencies, corporates, academics, and industry professionals, is working to share insights and expertise and to promote blockchain technology in Ireland.

Blockchain and Liberty for All

Broadcast live from Washington DC, June 18-19, 2021, with contributions from chapters around the globe, GBA will virtually present its annual state of the union to the world. The GBA global leadership team will present their blockchain results so far and discuss where we are headed for the next decade.

The featured Keynote speaker, Dr. Robert Brown will share his wisdom gained from decades of working with world leaders, industry titans, and civil rights leaders. The Washington Post called him a “World Class Power Broker”. Just some of his many accomplishments include:
– Key advisor to the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
– Involved in the Robert Kennedy campaign
– Special Assistant to President Richard Nixon
– Close friend and confidant of Nelson Mandela
– Consulted with many prominent US corporations on race relations and crisis management
– Worked on the committee that established the legislation creating the Office of Minority Business Enterprise within the US Department of Commerce
– He signed the documents that increased funding for historical black colleges & universities under President Nixon
– Serves on the boards of numerous universities and corporations
– He holds eleven honorary doctorate degrees from prestigious institutions of higher learning.

Dr. Brown has handled communications and race relations during pivotal moments of the civil rights movement. His ability to build bridges between Democrats and Republicans during the Civil Rights heyday, makes him an exceptional choice for blockchain leaders who will face inevitable backlash as this technology revolutionizes the landscape for many in power. How are we to move forward in a respectful and mutually beneficial manner?

As blockchain technology continues to disrupt every industry, GBA influencers will need to hear the lessons learned from this icon of history.

The Government Blockchain Association, (GBA), is honored to have Dr. Brown as a keynote speaker for Blockchain and Liberty for All.

“Political freedom must be accompanied by economic freedom for people to be truly free. Blockchain Technology is a new frontier in the economic landscape,” says Gerard Dache, Executive Director, GBA.

Blockchain & Liberty for All

Live from Washington DC, GBA will host a virtual gathering of members to celebrate the accomplishments of 2020 and plan our trajectory going forward. Join us, June 18-19, as the GBA hosts, BLOCKCHAIN AND LIBERTY FOR ALL, streaming virtually to cities around the world.

In commemoration of June 19th, also known as Freedom Day, Juneteenth is a U.S. holiday celebrating the emancipation of African Americans still held in slavery in Texas in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had officially outlawed slavery. This 2-year delay came from a deliberate withholding of the news of freedom, chaining thousands of slaves with a lie. Today we have an abundance of news, 24/7, on multiple channels. But are we getting the truth, or is it fake news? Without verification, can we trust the data? Blockchain is a specific type of database in which blocks of data are chained together in chronological order, immutable, irreversible, and viewable to anyone. No data goes into a block until the entire community sees it and verifies it. Blockchain as a system can provide verification, trust, and liberty for all. Hence the theme of this year’s GBA annual meeting, Blockchain and Liberty for All.

The Government Blockchain Association, GBA, is a global business association with chapters in 120 cities around the world. In only a few short years, the GBA has risen from a local meetup to an international association of blockchain innovators and government policy makers with over 50 Working Groups including:

– Acquisition Management
– Big Data
– Cannabis
– Cybersecurity
– Education and Training
– Emergency Management
– Financial Regulatory
– Gaming
– Grants
– Intellectual Property
– Land Titling
– Smart Cities
– Space
– Supply Chain
– Voting, and More…

Leaders from GBA Africa, Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Europe, South America, US, Canada, and India will give yearly updates. Eric Guthrie, Esq., GBA Director of Training and author of Diversify or Die, will give a Keynote on ‘Journey to Freedom’. Technology, the Token, Fair and Honest Elections, and Blockchain and Equal Opportunity will all be discussed.

“Political freedom must be accompanied by economic freedom for people to be truly free. Blockchain Technology is a new frontier in the economic landscape.” says Gerard Dache, Executive Director, GBA.

Blockchain technology does not discriminate between color, gender, age, nationality, or background (education). This new technology presents an opportunity for all who want to embrace it. Join GBA on June 18-19 as we discuss our yearly update.
