Unleashing the Power of Graphene

G® Lubricant, a graphene liquid concentrate that can be added to any mineral or synthetic oil used in an internal combustion engine, has been shown to increase fuel efficiency by up to 8.4% in a diesel engine. The amount of graphene in the final lubricant once G® Lubricant is mixed in is only ~ 1:10,000, with the balance of the concentrate consisting of lubricating base oil. As a result, G® Lubricant can be used safely in any internal combustion engine. Over the past four years, GMG has conducted environmentally controlled testing of G® Lubricant in internal combustion engines monitored and verified by The University of Queensland. GMG’s test results have been corroborated by similar savings realized by customers over a number of years of field testing.

Figure 1 below shows the high level fuel efficiency improvement provided by the G® Lubricant additive, while Figure 8 provides the detailed fuel testing parameters.

The data shows a clear increase in fuel efficiency performance from G® Lubricant when the load is increased on the engine. High loads for truck diesel engines are usually seen when the truck starts to move, and then at high speeds when encountering wind resistance. Usually stationary diesel engines for power generation operate at high load.

Figure 2 shows the potential savings for the main types of diesel engine commercial vehicles in use in Australia – with average vehicle data sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics[1] (ABS).

Exceptional Performance Confirmed by University of Queensland

GMG’s Managing Director and CEO, Craig Nicol, commented: “G® Lubricant has taken over 4 years of advanced product testing and is transformational for energy efficiency and emissions reduction for the liquid fuels industry – it is the culmination of decades of lubricants, engines, energy markets and graphene knowledge which is inherent in the GMG business. The next challenge to commercialise this product awaits – which we are eagerly preparing for.”

GMG’s Chairman and Director, Jack Perkowski, commented: “G® Lubricant’s performance, which demonstrates an 8.4% improvement in fuel efficiency using only a very small amount of graphene in an easy to use graphene concentrate, is a ‘Category Creator’ that has the potential to redefine the multi trillion dollar liquid fuels market. The fact that only 1% of G® Lubricant is needed to achieve such savings provides a very attractive value proposition for fleet owners.”

US$ 1.4 Trillion Global Diesel Industry

Whilst G® Lubricant can be used to reduce fuel consumption in both diesel and gasoline/petrol engines GMG intends to focus on the diesel market initially, which is largely B2B focused, and therefore, more targeted as far as fuel cost savings and performance. GMG calculates that global diesel fuel sales totalled US$1.4 Trillion per annum[2] including taxes and duties on approximately 28 million barrels of diesel per day as detailed by the EIA2. Figure 3 shows the top 34 countries in the world with diesel fuel sales greater than US$10 Billion per annum.

Estimated US$ 1.2 Billion Per Annum Global Diesel Market For G® Lubricant

Assuming an average fuel savings of 8.4%, GMG believes that a conservative estimate of the potential market for G® Lubricant is 10% of the fuel savings realized by users annually. Assuming G® Lubricant pricing equal to 10% of the savings realized, GMG estimates that the potential global revenue for G® Lubricant is US$ 1.2 Billion sales per annum. Figure 4 shows GMG’s estimates of potential annual sales of G® Lubricant by country.

Detailed Equipment and Process for Testing G® Lubricant

The following describes the equipment used and the process followed by the Company in demonstrating the fuel saving demonstration of the G® Lubricant in the diesel engine generator:

  • A 30kVA (24 kW) Cummins diesel engine generator (with 14,784 hours of run time) as seen in Figure 5 and described in Figure 6 was purchased and setup in the GMG Richlands warehouse.
  • The generator was connected to a 40 kW power load bank which consumed the energy produced by the generator and created the load and a 500 litre self-contained fuel tank.
  • Two calibrated flow sensors were connected (inflow and return/outflow) to the fuel lines and to a data logger which recorded the fuel consumption.
  • An Energy Analyzer was used to log and track energy produced by the generator.
  • Tests were conducted on loads of 40%, 60% and 80% loads of the 40 kW power load bank – 12, 18, 24 kw respectively.
  • A baseline to record diesel fuel consumption under normal engine oil and operating conditions was completed with newly changed recommended premium diesel engine oil and a new oil filter. This oil change was carried out by a professional engine maintenance service company.
  • The engine was run at the different loads (40%, 60% and 80%) and the baseline and G® Lubricant data set used for the analytics is when the maximum ambient temperature for the day was less than 33 degrees Celsius and relative humidity was between 50% and 80% with no rain. Fuel consumption for diesel engines changes when operating in rain or very high humidity or temperatures, so the fuel consumption data baseline and G® Lubricant engine oil additive performance testing were excluded for these times.
  • Only steady state data was used and so any variance or anomalous data seen in either baseline or G® Lubricant datasets were removed from the analytics. Data sets were grouped into minute blocks.
  • Once the baseline fuel tests were completed, the engine oil was drained and the oil filters were replaced. G-Lubricant with approximately 1:100 concentration was mixed at approximately 1% ratio by weight with a new batch of the same premium recommended engine oil and added to the generator engine. The end ratio of GMG’s Graphene to the diesel engine oil was approximately 1:10,000 by weight. The oil change was carried out by the same professional engine maintenance service company.

G® Lubricant Packaging

G® Lubricant is currently sold by GMG in different small pack sizes, a 500 ml pack is shown in Figure 5 which can be diluted into 50 litres of engine oil to provide improved engine performance. GMG intends to direct market the product to its targeted markets through various pack sizes for direct and bulk use.

Figure 8: Detailed Diesel Engine Generator Performance Data.

Basis for Performance Improvement

As seen in Figure 9, G® Lubricant GMG improves fuel efficiency by creating less friction in the boundary layer lubrication of the pistons inside the cylinder block of the engine. It is widely accepted that approximately 30% of the fuel is used in an engine to overcome internal friction, and that approximately 60% of the engine friction is in the piston area. Graphene has also been seen to prevent wear and also fill in wear scars of an engine, helping to improve piston sealing.

Strengthening Supply Chains for a Sustainable Future

  • Mainland is the Prime Location for GBA Businesses to Build Supply Chain Resilience, with ASEAN the No.1 Overseas Option

More than 90% of manufacturing businesses in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) have either completed their supply chain transformation or have the process well underway. This is the key finding of GBA Supply Chain Diversity: Enhancing Connectivity Among ASEAN, Hong Kong, and the Mainland, a joint report published today by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and UOB Hong Kong.

The report also found that 72% of GBA-based manufacturing companies have already committed to actively bolstering the resilience of their supply chains, with the remainder expected to follow suit within two years. In another positive finding, a significant proportion of survey respondents saw Hong Kong as an indispensable link between the GBA and the ASEAN bloc, while also having a high regard for the city’s expertise in the green finance and professional services sectors.

The report’s conclusions were based on an in-depth survey of more than 600 GBA-based companies conducted in the third quarter of 2024. Within its comprehensive remit, the research also set out to determine the key drivers of supply chain diversification, identify the overseas markets GBA businesses are primarily targeting and evaluate the success of the green and sustainable development initiatives implemented by such enterprises.

In order to track the evolving trends, the survey findings were compared with the results of two HKTDC-UOB Hong Kong studies conducted in 2023: Navigating Connectivity – Exploring ASEAN Opportunities for the Greater Bay Area and Sustainability in the GBA: Unlocking Opportunities and Empowering Growth.

Strengthening Supply Chain Resilience
For most GBA-based businesses, the mainland remained their preferred choice when it came to both diversifying their supply chain arrangements and broadening their range of production options. For those looking to diversify their supply chains by incorporating overseas locations, ASEAN was the number one choice, with 84% of the surveyed enterprises indicating they had plans in place to maintain or expand their production/sourcing activities within the bloc. The primary reason for this preference (as cited by 39% of respondents) was the positive nature of China-ASEAN trade relations, with the benefits accruing from both the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) also widely acknowledged.

Of the individual ASEAN markets, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia were the preferred choices for both current and future business activities. The rising level of business interest in the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos and Brunei, however, was also notable.

The key challenges to successfully entering the various ASEAN markets, meanwhile, were seen as finding suitable and capable local service providers (as cited by 32% of respondents), followed by maintaining data security (25%) and finding talent with the required expertise (25%). Tellingly, many of the issues designated as primary concerns in the 2023 study – difficulties in navigating local government policies and regulations relating to foreign investment and culture/language barriers – featured less prominently in the more recent survey.

In line with the perceived success of the overall upgrade programme, the majority of survey respondents (60%) now see the GBA’s supply chains as characterised by a high level of innovation, collectively underpinned by the extensive deployment of effective digital solutions.

ESG and Sustainability
In addition to their focus on bolstering the resilience of their supply chains, many GBA businesses remained committed to accelerating their ESG initiatives. As a sign of this, 81% of survey respondents had active green and sustainable development programmes in place – 16 percentage points higher than the 65% recorded in 2023.

Respondents also indicated a greater willingness to increase their level of ESG investment, with an average increase of about 25% planned over the next two years. This will see the relevant budget allocations average HK$462,535, well above the 2023 figure of HK$371,333.

Commenting on the findings, Irina Fan, the HKTDC’s Director of Research said: “GBA companies are now demonstrating a real commitment to sustainability, as shown by the planned 25% increase in ESG investment over the next two years. As there are about three million enterprises in the GBA, this could equate to total ESG-related investment of some HK$1.3 trillion.”

Adaline Zheng, CEO of UOB Hong Kong, said: “As businesses in GBA continue to evolve and adapt to emerging trends, we are committed to supporting their journey towards sustainable growth and resilience. By leveraging our robust foreign direct investment advisory unit and strong Hong Kong platform, we provide tailored solutions and insights to facilitate GBA companies’ expansion into ASEAN markets. The increasing focus on diversifying supply chains and enhancing connectivity with ASEAN underscores the pivotal role of collaboration and innovation in today’s dynamic market. Together, we empower businesses to not only thrive in a competitive landscape but also to contribute positively to our shared future.”

Hong Kong: The GBA-ASEAN Super Connector
Another clear finding of the 2024 survey was the success Hong Kong has found in carving out its unique niche as the GBA-ASEAN super-connector.

This was reflected in the score GBA-based businesses accorded both Hong Kong’s Connectivity with the ASEAN Bloc and Hong Kong’s Connectivity with Mainland GBA Cities – eight out of 10, a one-point year-on-year increase.

In a further endorsement, 80% of 2024 respondents indicated a willingness to both learn more about Hong Kong’s green professional services and to use such services more frequently, a significant increase on the 2023 figure of 70%.

Notes for Editors
The GBA is the Greater Bay Area (also known as the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area), a priority development area that comprises nine mainland cities in Guangdong province (Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Huizhou, and Zhaoqing) as well as two Special Administrative Regions, Hong Kong, and Macao.

We look forward to connecting businesses with opportunities at TBTHK in Jakarta on 8 January.” He continued, “the Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive led a delegation organised by the HKTDC last year to ASEAN, including Indonesia, which resulted in the signing of 15 MoUs. The TBTHK promotion will build on that previous success to further promote business cooperation between Indonesia and Hong Kong.”

Event Highlight
In addition to the symposium, some 20 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups will feature their flagship products and solutions in the exhibition’s Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon to create opportunities for collaboration with Indonesian participants.

A delegation of some 100 senior executives, innovators, start-ups and professional service providers from various service sectors – including I&T, infrastructure and transportation – will explore business opportunities in Indonesia through company visits, networking events and business matching meetings.

A high-level gala dinner, during which Hong Kong and Indonesia business leaders will have the opportunity to further engage in dialogue and network, concludes the day’s events.

Indonesia-Hong Kong strong ties
As the largest country in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is an important partner for Hong Kong. Economically, Hong Kong and Indonesia have seen their trade and investment ties deepen over the past decades. In 2023, Indonesia was Hong Kong’s 6th largest trading partner among ASEAN member states.

Regarding bilateral investment, at the end of 2023, Hong Kong was Indonesia’s 6th largest investor, after Singapore, Japan, the US, the Netherlands and Mainland China, with a total FDI stock of US$17,253 million. In the same year, Hong Kong was Indonesia’s 2nd largest source of FDI, after Singapore, with a FDI flow of US$3,769 million.

Presenting Hong Kong as an Ideal Business Partner
Hong Kong has consistently ranked high on economic freedom and competitiveness. Its institutional strengths, including its free trade and investment regimes, a simple and low tax system and free flow of capital and goods offer a favourable business and investment environment.

As a major business and trading hub in Asia, the city boasts excellent connectivity to the rest of Asia, with half of the world’s population within a five-hour flight. The new three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport will significantly enhance passenger and cargo capacity, further solidifying its status as an international aviation hub. With Mainland China at its doorstep, Hong Kong serves as a gateway to this vast market, acting as a super connector between China and the world. Home to numerous international logistics firms and experienced supply chain service providers, Hong Kong can address the needs of ASEAN businesses.

ASEAN countries can leverage Hong Kong’s status as a premier international finance and business centre to raise funds and attract investment for developing smart cities, advancing the manufacturing sector and enhancing sustainability initiatives. As the largest offshore RMB market, the city provides robust infrastructure for efficient clearing and settlement of cross-border transactions. Its supportive regulatory environment fosters innovation and collaboration among ASEAN nations, promoting economic integration and offering diverse options for trade settlement. Through strategic partnerships with central banks, Hong Kong is ideally positioned to facilitate the growth of local currency usage, strengthening trade and investment across the region.

With its strategic location as a finance, fundraising, and investment hub, combined with its role as superconnector, Hong Kong presents immense opportunities for Indonesian businesses seeking to expand into the GBA, Mainland China, Belt and Road countries and the wider Asia market.

GMG’s THERMAL-XR(R) Demonstrates Potential for Electronics Heat Sink Miniaturization and Efficiency

Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (TSXV: GMG) (OTCQX: GMGMF) (“GMG” or the “Company”) is pleased to provide a business update on the commercialisation progress of THERMAL-XR® Powered by GMG Graphene.

CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT UPDATE

GMG continues to make progress in testing with companies in multiple industries for the use of THERMAL-XR® in their products, including on heat sinks for electronics. Figure 1 shows an aluminium heat sink that is commonly used in electronics for removing heat from printed circuit boards, electrical circuits and processing silicon chips, and that has been coated with THERMAL-XR®.

HEAT SINK MINIATURISATION:

Third-party verified modelling demonstrates that applying THERMAL-XR® to a heat sink could reduce its size by up to 39%, while maintaining equivalent thermal performance, offering the potential for weight and material cost savings. Figure 2 shows that the maximum temperature reached by a heat sink coated with THERMAL-XR® is 62 degrees centigrade, 23% lower than the maximum temperature of 80 degrees Celsius reached by a heat sink of equal size that has not been coated with THERMAL-XR®. Figure 3 shows that a heat sink coated with THERMAL-XR® that is 39% smaller in terms of width achieves the same performance as a heat sink that has not been coated with THERMAL-XR®.

Global Printed Circuit Board (PCB) production is projected[1] to reach 530 million square meters annually by the year 2030, or about 5.3 trillion printed circuit boards. As PCB density increases, higher current loads lead to more heat, with 5.2 billion units expected to require heat sinks for cooling. THERMAL-XR® coated on the heat sinks, enhances the heat sink efficiency, enabling smaller heat sinks and more compact PCB assemblies. The total amount of THERMAL-XR® that could be used for this application to improve performance is 26.5 million litres per annum by 2030, assuming 0.1% will use the coating.

GMG’s Managing Director and CEO, Craig Nicol, commented: “Heat sinks are a critical component of modern electronics, but they come with various challenges, especially as devices become smaller, faster, and more powerful. GMG’s THERMAL-XR® offers a potential solution in heat sink miniaturization, enabling up to 39% size reduction while maintaining thermal performance. This has the potential to not only cut material costs but also unlock new opportunities for compact and efficient electronics designs, addressing the rising thermal management demands of the global printed circuit board market.”

Genetec maintains stable and profitable performance on a lower Q1FY2025 revenue

Technology leader in providing turnkey, intelligent manufacturing automation solutions, GENETEC TECHNOLOGY BERHAD (“Genetec” or the “Company”), announced its financial results for the first quarter of its new financial year (“Q1FY2025). Despite the lower Year-on-Year (“YoY”) revenue, Genetec showcases its resilience with the continued profitability and high-double digit margins.

The Company recorded revenue of RM40.2 million and gross profit (“GP”) of RM7.3 million for its Q1FY2025 ending 30 September 2024. It also reported profit before tax (“PBT”) of RM4.4 million, profit after tax (“PAT”) of RM4.1 million and profit after tax and minority interest (PATAMI) of RM4.8 million. Genetec continues to maintain double-digit margins for its GP, PBT, PAT and PATAMI of 18.2%, 10.9%, 10.2% and 11.9%, respectively.

Genetec acknowledged that the last quarter has been challenging for the business which it believes was mainly attributed to policy uncertainties from the client’s operating markets. With the conclusion of the U.S. Presidential election and European policy developments, particularly on inflation, import tariffs, and decarbonisation, there is a sense of relief and clarity, and companies are moving forward with their capital expenditure with greater certainty.

The Company, leveraging its expertise in customised automation technology and project execution, continue to work closely with its clients to deliver tailored solutions aimed at enhancing manufacturing automation, improving efficiency and increasing production yield for its clients. With its strong track record, Genetec is confident in its ability to continue to build trust and secure recurring business from its clients. Its high client retention rate stands as a testament to its exceptional performance and has been a key factor in the Company’s success. This strong foundation enables the Company to broaden its scope and product offerings with other divisions within the organisation of its existing clients to grow revenue over the long-term. At the same time, the Company’s business development team continue to explore new opportunities in new markets and industries, leveraging on its extensive experience and proven success working with leading international and reputable clients.

Genetec’s Battery Energy Storage System (“BESS”) business is slowly gaining traction as it executes smaller-scale but strategically significant projects in both domestic and international markets. The Company remains confident that its execution capabilities and international track record will position Genetec favourably. Market developments such as the government’s recently announced Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) through interest in pairing BESS technology with solar projects, will also support demand for BESS moving forward, and is a step in achieving 70 percent renewable energy in the capacity mix by 2050[1].

Moving forward, Genetec remains committed to its strategy and focus on operational efficiency, strict cost management. With its low gearing levels and recent sale of subsidiary CLT Engineering Sdn Bhd to add to its already strong cash position, Genetec is positioning itself to ramp up operations in the coming months.
