2025 Toys & Games Fair, Baby Products Fair, Stationery & School Supplies Fair open today

  • Over 2,500 exhibitors driving new cross-industry opportunities; a promising start for 2025 trade shows

– Themed New Play for All, the trio of fairs brings together more than 2,500 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions
– The number of exhibitors at Hong Kong Baby Products Fair achieves a record high; over 380 well-known toy and baby products brands in the Brand Name Gallery
– The three fairs reveal several product trends, including digitisation, green toys, and the popularity of cross-age group products
– Asian Toys & Games Forum will be held tomorrow, gathering international experts to discuss the social responsibilities of the toy industry

Kicking off a brand new year, the 51st HKTDC Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair, the 16th HKTDC Hong Kong Baby Products Fair and the 23rd Hong Kong International Stationery & School Supplies Fair, jointly organised by the HKTDC and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, launched today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and will take place over four consecutive days.

Hong Kong SAR Government Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Acting Executive Director Sophia Chong, and HKTDC Toys Advisory Committee Chairman Bryant Chan officiated the Joint Opening Ceremony of the Toys & Games Fair and Baby Products Fair today, launching the 51st edition of Asia’s flagship Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair.

Algernon Yau, HKSAR Government Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, said at the opening ceremony: “Entering the 51st year of the Hong Kong Toys & Games Fair, I have full confidence that the event, together with the concurrent Hong Kong Baby Products Fair, will continue to feature different innovative and distinctive products that are intriguing to all and, more importantly, facilitate business promotion and consolidate Hong Kong’s position as a global sourcing as well as convention and exhibition hub.”

Sophia Chong, HKTDC Acting Executive Director, said: “This year’s Toy Fair marks an important milestone and a new chapter for the toy industry. The three fairs are themed New Play for All, and feature multiple zones, from toys for infants and toddlers to collectible toys designed for adults with a childlike spirit, as well as STEM education toys, smart-tech toys & games and green toys, catering to the needs of all age groups and meeting market demand.

“The three fairs have drawn over 2,500 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions, including pavilions from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Asia and Europe, presenting cross-industry business opportunities to visitors. The HKTDC has proactively arranged more than 200 buying missions from over 40 countries and regions, and invited various Hong Kong-based international buyers and local enterprises including several large international e-commerce platforms, importers, department stores, specialty stores, retail chains, and procurement offices, creating new opportunities for the industry,” added Chong.

Three fairs reveal multiple product trends
Several product trends from this year’s exhibitors provide visitors from other industries with cross-industry business opportunities. These include:

– Digitised products: Many traditional toy and game manufacturers and brands are integrating electronics and new technologies with toys to enhance playability, such as the Dynamie Pixel Piano (Booth: 1E-C02), Upset Dog (Booth: 1C-F02), and the NASA Spirit Rover (Booth: 1C-F33).
– Learning and play combined: In the hope that kids can learn while having fun, many parents choose toys that can improve cognitive, social, intellectual, and aesthetic development. As a result, there is a greater demand for educational and intellectual products, such as the Giant Panda Anatomy Model (Booth: 1D-C12), Adventure Globe (Booth: 1E-A02), Children’s Play Sofa (Booth: 3F-G04), and Water Transfer Painting Set (Booth: 5B-B01).
– Demand for sustainable products: As sustainable consumption has grown, more parents are inclined to choose eco-friendly toys to reduce their environmental impact. Examples include straw DIY marble run blocks (Booth: 1C-D02) and the Voices of Nature series of puzzles (Booth: 1D-A08).
– Cross-age groups products: There is a growing popularity of toy designs and styles that cater to a wide range of age groups. Toys are no longer just for children;  adults and even elderly are collecting toys, making the collectibles market a significant part of the toy industry. The Astro Boy Mechanical Clear Version (Booth: 1D-A26) is one example. The fair is actively developing the ageing market as well. For instance, a Hong Kong exhibitor has designed a wall game suitable for both the elderly and children, where the user must rotate cogs with both hands, and the vibrant visual stimulus helps to enhance concentration and left-right brain coordination (Booth: 1D-D22).

Exhibition space growth in multiple zones at the Toys & Games Fair
Toys & Games Fair saw an expansion in exhibition space in two major zones. This includes the Electronic & Remote Control Toys (up 40%) and Educational Toys & Games zones (up 7%). The Green Toys zone makes a welcome return and showcase eco-friendly and innovative products with a Green Leaf Label displayed at the booths of green exhibitors for buyers’ easy reference. This year, over 370 exhibitors have the Green Leaf label, an increase of 70% from the last edition.

Exhibitors are using various creative methods to promote sustainable development, emphasising the value of social responsibility and ESG fundamentals.

This year’s Toys Fair has an impressive pavilion lineup, including exhibitors from Mainland China, Taiwan and Korea, as well as selected European exhibitors at the Spielwarenmesse eG’s World of Toys Pavilion. Exhibits include Glow-in-the-Dark Slime (Booth: 1CON-068), Genius Square board game (Booth: 1CON-061), and more. The Hong Kong Brand Toy Association (HKBTA) Pavilion once again promotes the local creative industry and trendy toy products to international buyers.

The showcase features seven exceptional creative partnerships, including graphic design master and ink painter Kan Tai-keung with printmaker and tattoo artist Li Ning; international architectural designer Steve Leung with new media artist Chris Cheung / XPLOR; sculptor Johnson Tsang with emerging Hong Kong artist Kila Cheung; watch designer Joe Kwan with sculptural visual effects designer Ram2; wood carving master craftsman Siu Ping-keung with woodwork craftsman Chow Kin-lung; neon light craftsman Wu Chi-kai with woodwork art brand Start From Zero; and master minibus sign writer Mak Kam-sang with hand-painted signage artist Katol. The exhibition features a life-sized red minibus facade showcasing their iconic calligraphic artistry. These cross-disciplinary collaborations between seasoned design masters and a new generation of artists, exemplifies the perfect balance of tradition and innovation, highlighting Hong Kong design’s unique appeal in combining international perspectives with local characteristics.

Interactive art tech zone and local design showcase
The exhibition features a dedicated art tech interactive zone, presenting creative performances by renowned local watercolour artist Pei Chung and real-time visual artist moon.noon. Pei Chung’s exhibition not only showcases his signature jellyfish motifs but also incorporates Hong Kong’s most iconic urban symbols, including dazzling neon signs, street-traversing trams and minibuses, and local culinary delights like pineapple buns. The exhibits incorporate interactive elements, allowing visitors to experience the creative fusion of watercolour art and digital technology.

Real-time visual artist moon.noon brings an immersive art installation “Echoes of Urban Pulse”. The work consists of two installations. “Urban Mirage” which uses optical and sound data recorded on Hong Kong streets to present the city’s distinctive landscapes like Causeway Bay’s Yee Wo Street Bridge and Central’s Edinburgh Place pedestrian tunnel through over 2,000 different light states, offering visitors a unique sensory experience. The second installation, “Streetlight Sonata”, is an interactive art installation incorporating Hong Kong street light elements, with backgrounds changing according to visitors’ movements and steps, creating unique light and shadow effects.

Several renowned local design institutions will also participate in DesignInspire. The Hong Kong Design Institute will showcase its project Motifx, featuring distinctive household items using Chinese classical floral patterns, demonstrating the unique charm of traditional patterns in stylish homes and daily life. The HKDC Pavilion by Hong Kong Design Centre will display approximately 20 creations from the Fashion Incubation Programme (FIP) and Design Incubation Programme (DIP), along with over 200 DFA Design Award-winning works.

Demonstrating the remarkable strength of local design, this year’s DesignInspire will feature a Hong Kong Design On Stage zone, showcasing eight local design teams that won the Hong Kong section competition at Paris’ Maison&Objet, including: Studio Yellowdot, Studio-Ryte, Hintegro Limited, Green & Associates (HK) Limited, @StreetsignHK, Monica Tsang Designs Limited, MLKK Design Studio Limited, and BEAU Architects.

As a unique business-to-all platform for Hong Kong’s creative industry, DesignInspire serves not only as a bridge connecting Hong Kong with the international design community but also a creative exchange platform that fosters collaboration among various stakeholders. The innovative works and concepts presented by event exhibitors not only showcase the latest design trends, they also emphasise how these innovations can be applied in business, providing rich inspiration and fresh ideas for various industries, particularly those focused on customer experience, such as real estate developers, retail, and service sectors (including hotels, shopping malls, chain restaurants, clubs, and airlines). Through advancements in spatial design, product design, material applications, and art technology, these industries can enhance their brand image and customer experience, ultimately attracting more consumers.

Design seminars and workshops promoting Hong Kong craftsmanship
To foster design innovation and exchange, the exhibition features InnoTalks with approximately 12 sessions by design experts from various countries and regions. Topics include font design, Xiaohongshu marketing, design trends promoting inclusion and social responsibility, future design: conscious design, storytelling through Bohemian glass, Chinese patterns and modern design, among other engaging subjects that stimulate creative thinking. The Design Council of Hong Kong will also hold the D-Mark certification ceremony and sharing session.

This year’s DesignInspire engages professionals, design enthusiasts, and the public through exhibitions, seminars, and workshops. The exhibition features diverse interactive experience zones and creative workshops, including art design and traditional crafts, where visitors can create Hong Kong-style iced lemon tea candles and cultural heritage bamboo coasters. STEAM education workshops offer Logiblocs programming and AR drawing activities to inspire innovative thinking. The venue also includes design select store in the Shop zone, featuring collectors’ items from designers and brands, offering visitors the opportunity to purchase unique design pieces to add fashion and elegance to their own homes. The 32nd Hong Kong International Optical Fair attracts some 13,000 buyers

  • Eco-friendly and smart glasses drive demand

– Optical Fair attracted some 13,000 buyers from 94 countries and regions
– Buyers enjoyed convenient procurement through three new thematic labels and 12 product zones
– Winner of the 24th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition announced

The 32nd Hong Kong International Optical Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), came to a successful conclusion today, attracting some 13,000 buyers from 94 countries and regions.

Sophia Chong, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director said: “We have been delighted to welcome international buyers to source new products at the Fair. Among them, buyers from ASEAN markets, including Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand; and buyers from Australia, Japan and Taiwan recorded an increase.  This reinforces Hong Kong’s advantage in internalisation and the Fair’s continuing role as a premier sourcing platform for the industry.”

Three New Thematic Labels Enhance Procurement
This year’s Optical Fair featured 12 product zones showcasing a diverse variety of eyewear products, and added three thematic labels – Green Solutions Suppliers, Smart Eyewear and Smart Ageing Products. Through this classification, buyers could effortlessly locate products that reflect the latest industry trends and keep pace with consumer demand.

The adoption of environmentally friendly, sustainable and recycled materials is a long-term trend in the industry. Hong Kong exhibitor Winky International provides biodegradable and bio-based eyewear and its founder and creative director Kevin Ching said that the Green Solutions Supplier label helped them to attract European buyers looking for eco-friendly products. He related that the number of buyers visiting their booth increased by 10% compared to last year and a new buyer from Malaysia had placed an onsite order. Moreover, he expected that the company can form partnerships with 8-10 new distributors after the fair and that sales generated by this year’s fair will grow by 50% over last year’s fair.

With the rapid development of science and technology, eyewear integrated with smart and innovative features is becoming part of everyday life. Kenny Cheung, General Manager of Solos Technology from Hong Kong, said: “We are showcasing AirGo™ Vision, a smart eyewear featuring ChatGPT-4o functionality. This innovative product has drawn significant interest from international buyers, and we anticipate partnerships with over 10 buyers from Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Malaysia, and the UK. AirGo™ Vision appeals not only to young users but also to elderly and visually impaired individuals, opening up new business opportunities in the silver market.”

Arikan Saat, a large wholesaler and distributor from Türkiye is a regular fair attendee and the company’s owner, Mahmut Arikan, said: “This year, we discovered many new designs. We have already placed onsite orders totalling US$200,000 with 13 existing suppliers and seven new suppliers for optical frames, sunglasses, and clip-ons. After the fair, we plan to purchase an additional US$1 million worth of new products from other suppliers.”

ONE ZERO ONE Trading is a distributor of branded eyewear and also markets its own brand in Vietnam. The company’s president, Cuong Timothy Tran, said that they confirmed orders with eight suppliers totalling US$195,000, primarily for acetate and titanium optical frames, eyewear cases, and cleaning cloths. He said the Click2Match platform facilitated efficient onsite deal-making and pre-event research. Additionally, he utilised the Scan2Match function in the HKTDC Marketplace App to initiate conversations with over 10 exhibitors via the messaging feature.

“Be Bold” Design Competition
To elevate Hong Kong’s design capability, foster innovation, and promote local designers to international buyers, the HKTDC and HKOMA organised the 24th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition under the theme of Be Bold and announced the results during the Fair.

The winner in the Open Group was the Ceramic Eyewear range by Lin Dianqun, designer at Arts Optical. Inspired by classic Chinese ceramic art, the design combines the elegance of blue-and-white porcelain with the warm and simple light green hue characteristic of Northern Song dynasty ceramic ware. It also won the Creativity Award and the Made-to-Sell Award. In the Student Group, Zhu Junbin from the Hong Kong Design Institute, won with ECHOL LIGHT, an eyewear product specially designed for the visually impaired. The eyewear features three ultrasonic-emitting devices, which use echolocation to detect obstacles and transmit information through bone conduction headphones. Users can adjust the intensity of ultrasound waves in different environments.

Under the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model, exhibitors and buyers can meet online through the HKTDC Click2Match smart business matching platform until 15 November. Buyers can also scan exhibitor QR codes in the HKTDC Marketplace App to engage with exhibitors after the fair to continue their sourcing journey.

Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association Celebrates 40th Anniversary

  • Fostering the City’s Vision as the ‘East-meets-West Centre for International Cultural Exchange’
  • VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture Presented by HKFDA
  • Showcasing the Pinnacle of Fashion Artistry

Organized by the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association (HKFDA) and sponsored by Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, “VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture” will take place on November 25th at The Henderson, a new iconic building in Central.

As a cornerstone of the inaugural Hong Kong Fashion Fest, this ground-breaking couture fashion show aims to connect the fashion circles of Mainland China, Hong Kong, and the global community. It presents a rare opportunity to appreciate the exceptional craftsmanship of couture designers worldwide while positioning Hong Kong as a pivotal fashion hub and a cultural bridge between East and West, ultimately benefiting the local economy.

A Tribute to Couture Fashion
Couture is an essential aspect of the dynamic fashion industry, embodying the core aspirations of designers—creativity, craftsmanship, and quality. These enduring values will be beautifully showcased at the event, reflecting the cultural backgrounds and artistic expressions of the designers. Chief Executive Mr. John Lee recently noted that “talent is the prime resource and driving force that boosts economic development and competitiveness,” a sentiment that resonates deeply within the fashion community, where innovation drives new designs.

Through “VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture,” the HKFDA aims to establish an international fashion exchange platform in Hong Kong. Four renowned international couture designers—Charles de Vilmorin from France, Mohamed Benchellal from the Netherlands, Cheney Chan from Mainland China, and Kay Kwok from Hong Kong—will share their insights and experiences within Hong Kong’s vibrant fashion landscape. They will highlight how the city’s advantages, including its status as a financial center, shipping hub, and innovation hotspot, create unique opportunities for growth and collaboration.

With the total number of travelers in Hong Kong increasing by 64% year-on-year to 21 million in the first half of 2024, an anticipated 1.7 million participants are expected to attend the city’s mega events, contributing over HK$7.2 billion in spending, according to government data. “Hong Kong’s domestic clothing exports also experienced a 28% growth in 2023 compared to 2022,” says Mr. Yeung. “We believe that events like VIRTUOSE are crucial in attracting global buyers and showcasing Hong Kong’s unique position and talent on the world fashion stage. As we celebrate our 40th anniversary, we aim to reaffirm our presence in the industry and reimagine our future through haute couture, highlighting the exceptional talent of our designers and our city’s strengths as a hub for creativity and finance.”

The Intersection of Four Fashion Cultures
“As an ‘East-meets-West Centre for International Cultural Exchange,’ Hong Kong plays a vital role in advancing the fashion design industry,” notes Mr. Yeung. The city’s rich cultural environment allows local designers to draw inspiration from diverse influences, enhancing their creative output.

The international designers will embody the cultural diversity that shapes their work, reflecting personal styles and the rich history of fashion. As Hong Kong positions itself as a talent hub, it showcases its appeal within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a mega events capital, and a city known for its favorable tax regime and quality education and healthcare services.

The HKFDA is committed to nurturing local talent by providing platforms for exposure and collaboration, empowering designers to thrive in a competitive landscape. “VIRTUOSE: The Artistry of Couture” will highlight the essence of fashion design through innovative forms and techniques, focusing on sustainable practices and intricate details. This event will inspire designers, couture clients, media, and industry professionals, fostering appreciation for the rich tapestry of fashion and culture.

Couture Trunk Shows
As part of its mission, the HKFDA actively promotes the uniqueness of Hong Kong fashion on the global stage. Following the fashion show, trunk shows will provide opportunities for deeper engagement between designers and both local and international clients, offering a one-of-a-kind couture ordering experience.

The recent establishment of the CCIDA enhances support for local designers, aiding them in exploring opportunities beyond Hong Kong. With the CCIDA’s backing to facilitate cultural exchanges and collaborations with global designers, the HKFDA’s trunk shows will not only create a platform for exchanging fashion insights but also strengthen the appreciation of diversity in fashion. This initiative is crucial for expanding the reach of Hong Kong’s fashion designers and enriching the global fashion landscape with our unique cultural narratives, thereby enhancing the visibility of Hong Kong’s vibrant fashion scene.
