  • Results of the 25th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition showcased award-winning entries from local designers

7 November 2025, The 33rd Hong Kong International Optical Fair, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organised by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), concluded successfully today. The three-day fair attracted some 12,000 buyers from 92 countries and regions. Buyers from outside Hong Kong primarily came from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, the US, and ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand, reinforcing the fair’s role as an important platform to connect with global buyers.

Jenny Koo, Deputy Executive Director, HKTDC, said: “As a premier sourcing platform for the industry, the Optical Fair brought the world’s leading eyewear brands together with innovative technologies and eco-friendly designs. The event featured a series of compelling activities including industry seminars, design competition, and eyewear parades, all of which play pivotal roles in fostering collaboration and networking within the industry.”

Smart technology and sustainability emerge as new industry drivers
The fair, themed “Bright Eyes • New Horizons”, showcased contemporary products that align with key market trends — “smart technology”, “sustainability”, “silver healthcare” and “functionality & design” — highlighting the industry’s achievements in technological innovation and sustainable development. Exhibitors introduced various products that blend functionality and aesthetics by integrating elements such as artificial intelligence and eco-friendly materials, catering to diverse market needs and further enhancing the industry’s competitiveness in the international market.

The spotlighted “Brand Name Gallery” showcased over 200 renowned brands from around the world, including BIG HORN and P+US from Hong Kong, MINIMA from France, STEPPER from Germany, United Colors of Benetton from Italy, Masunaga since 1905 and MATSUDA from Japan, Nano Vista from Spain, Ted Baker from the United Kingdom, together with new participating brands such as SUEEY.MASADA from Chinese Mainland, JULBO and SABINE BE from France, SASAKI and PTOLEMY48 from Japan, NIMOME from Korea, Collections Marcus Marienfeld from Switzerland, THRASHER from the US, showcasing distinctive designs.

Exhibitors focused on the latest trends and demonstrated smart products with innovative technologies, further expanding the potential of smart glasses used in daily life and professional sectors. Shenzhen MUEDO Technology Co., Ltd. from the Chinese Mainland presented its U10 Dual-Mode Smart Reading Glasses, featuring auto-focusing lenses and Hi-Fi stereo sound to target the silver market. Overseas Sales Manager Helen Zhuang stated: “We received inquiries from buyers in Italy, Germany, the US, India, among others, and are currently negotiating a collaboration with an Italian buyer with an expected order value of US$500,000.”

In response to the rise of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives, many eyewear brands have launched sustainable glasses featuring recycled materials. Hong Kong exhibitor Winky International Limited offers collections of eco-friendly sunglasses and optical frames made from biodegradable materials. Founder and Creative Director Kevin Ching said that the fair’s three thematic labels, including the “Green Solutions Suppliers” label, helped attract buyers to their booth to examine products and learn about the company’s sustainability vision. He said they have connected with 20 buyers from Indonesia, Vietnam, South Africa, and the Chinese Mainland, including a potential order of US$1 million from an Israeli agent with 260 retail points.

The Optical Fair attracted buyers from around the world, including prominent international buyers such as the Mondottica Group representative for Australia, Brazil’s VISTA IMPORT, leading European industry players like the Asia-Pacific representative of France’s Kering Eyewear, Germany’s Fielmann Group, and the Asia representative of UK’s Specsavers, India’s eyewear giant Lenskart, Indonesia’s Grand Optik, Singapore’s Capitol Optical, and the United States’ Euro Vision International.

Caitlin Northup, Vice President of Operations for US-based wholesale distributor Eyenavision, said “We aim to explore new suppliers and strengthen relationships with existing suppliers by attending the Optical Fair. We met with 20 exhibitors and have already placed onsite orders totaling US$500,000 with two exhibitors from the Chinese Mainland for lenses.”

Optisero, S.L. from Spain is a family business with a 30-year history in the optical industry. Joint Administrator Antonia Rivas said: “We have attended the Optical Fair every year for the past twenty years to source optical cases and lenses. This year, we connected with 20 potential suppliers at the fair. Our overall sourcing budget for suppliers we met at the fair will be around EUR2 million annually.”

Eyewear Design Competition showcases new design talents
The HKTDC and the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association co-organised “The 25th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition”, to promote the diversification and internationalisation of local eyewear designs. The competition aimed to identify promising and emerging design talents and promote innovative design and technology within the local eyewear industry. Themed “Blending Tradition and Technology”, the competition featured an Open Group as well as a Student Group. The award ceremony was held on the first day of the fair, with winning and shortlisted entries displayed throughout the event. The Open Group champion, “Be With You,” designed by Fung Wai-kuen, automatically alerts family members via bluetooth-connected smartphones when the wearer falls or presses the emergency button, significantly reducing accident risks for the elderly. This design also won the “Made-to-Sell Award”. In the Student Group, Shum Chui-shan’s “Unique Perspectives” won first place. The design incorporates the auspicious butterfly symbol from traditional Chinese culture, utilising tie-dye techniques and a detachable structure which enhances the design’s three-dimensional effect and functionality.

The fair continues to adopt the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model which seamlessly integrates online and offline elements to extend business opportunities. Exhibitors and buyers can connect and arrange meetings through the Click2Match online smart business-matching platform until 14 November. During the physical event, buyers can also use the Scan2Match function on the HKTDC Marketplace App to scan exhibitors’ QR codes to bookmark favourite suppliers, access product details and interactive floor plans, and make product enquiries — enabling engagement with exhibitors before and after the fair to continue their sourcing journey.

We are also delighted to have met with the authorities from Oman again at GITEX and confirmed that we are signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Hong Kong this Thursday, aimed at co-establishing an AI and Robotics Center in Oman, advancing localised talent training and certification, and implementing cross-departmental pilot projects.” He is very pleased to see the strong demand for Hong Kong’s I&T products and services in the Middle East market and will continue to actively expand into the region.

To help Hong Kong exhibitors establish a stronger network with the Middle East and international markets, the HKTDC hosted a networking dinner on 14 October together with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (ETO) in Dubai. Around 100 industry representatives attended from Hong Kong, the local region and beyond. Hong Kong exhibitors were able to connect with local counterparts to explore business opportunities.

Winnie Leung, founder of exhibitor WYNI Technology, shared after the dinner: “The HKTDC has bridged the gap between Hong Kong’s I&T enterprises and the Middle East market by helping us to establish contacts locally to understand the diverse opportunities and challenges in the Middle East market, and by connecting us with local banks and companies to advance business expansion efforts in the region.” Moving forward, WYNI Technology will follow up further to solidify potential partnerships and continue expanding in the Middle East market.

Another exhibitor, Canpanion Group Limited, engaged with a local education company during the networking dinner. Both parties are exploring ways to integrate Canpanion’s technology into inclusive education. They also established contact with relevant local authorities and will further explore collaboration opportunities through the help of the ETO in Dubai. Additionally, another local educational institution expressed interest in partnering with them and the government to establish an AI school, thereby fostering an ecosystem for smart education.

Start-up and investor event Expand North Star took place from 12 to 15 October at Dubai Harbour, where HKSTP set up a Pavilion showcasing innovative solutions from its 10 park companies. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University also participated in the exhibition.

The HKTDC continues to lead Hong Kong businesses in participating in major international tech exhibitions, helping local start-ups expand overseas and reinforcing Hong Kong’s position as a global innovation and technology hub. Following GITEX Global 2025, the HKTDC will once again organise the Hong Kong Tech Pavilion next year at CES in Las Vegas, USA in January, the MWC 2026 in Barcelona, Spain in March and VivaTech in Paris, France, providing an effective platform for I&T companies to showcase their cutting-edge technologies.

Use of AI in cybersecurity surges in Singapore

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic concept in cybersecurity but is now the frontline. Fortinet, a global leader in cybersecurity, has unveiled findings from a 2025 IDC survey that show a dramatic surge in AI adoption across Singapore’s enterprises, with 82% of organisations already integrating AI into their security operations.

The IDC study, commissioned by Fortinet, highlights how AI is now central to threat detection, incident response and even recruitment and investment strategies. As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, AI is being deployed not just to keep pace, but to get ahead.

AI: A double-edged sword

AI is transforming cybersecurity on both sides of the battlefield. While defenders use it to automate detection and scale threat intelligence, attackers are also leveraging AI to launch faster, stealthier and more adaptive campaigns.

The survey found that some 56% of Singapore organisations encountered AI-powered threats in the past year. Among them, 52% saw a two-fold increase in threat volume, while 42% reported a three-fold surge. These attacks often exploit gaps in visibility and governance, making them harder to detect and contain.

From detection to prediction

AI’s role in cybersecurity is advancing rapidly. Beyond basic detection, organisations are now deploying AI for automated response, predictive threat modelling and behavioural analytics.

Generative AI (GenAI) is gaining traction for tasks like updating rules, detecting social engineering, and guiding investigations. However, trust in full autonomy remains low. Auto-remediation is still rare, indicating that most teams are in the “co-pilot” phase of AI adoption.

Building AI-first teams

The rise of AI is reshaping the cybersecurity workforce. The top five roles in demand across Singapore include security data scientists, AI security engineers and AI-specific incident response professionals.

Organisations are no longer just buying AI tools but building teams around them. This reflects a broader trend of aligning talent with technology to stay ahead of evolving threats.

Strategic spending and smarter investments

Cybersecurity budgets are increasing, but cautiously. While 86% of organisations reported budget growth, 68% saw increases of less than 5%.

Spending is being directed toward high-impact areas like identity security, Zero Trust frameworks, and cloud-native protection. This marks a shift from infrastructure-heavy investments to more targeted, risk-centric strategies.

Understaffed and overwhelmed

Despite growing executive attention, many cybersecurity teams remain stretched thin. Only 6% of the total workforce is allocated to internal IT, and just 13% of that focuses on cybersecurity. Less than 15% of organisations have a dedicated Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), and only 6% have purpose-built threat hunting teams.

This lack of specialisation is contributing to burnout and reduced effectiveness.

Convergence and consolidation take centre stage

To combat complexity, organisations are embracing unified cybersecurity frameworks. A staggering 96% are either converging security and networking or actively evaluating it. Additionally, 70% are considering vendor consolidation – not just for cost savings, but for better integration, faster support and improved security posture.

Simon Piff, Research Vice-President at IDC Asia-Pacific, noted: “Organisations are no longer experimenting with AI, they are embedding it across threat detection, incident response and team design. This signals a new era of security operations that is smarter, faster and more adaptive to the evolving risk landscape. AI is fundamentally reshaping how threats are identified, prioritised and acted upon. This evolution demands a parallel shift in strategy and talent.”

Jess Ng, Country Manager, Singapore and Brunei, Fortinet, added: “CISOs across Singapore are entering a more advanced phase of cybersecurity planning – one where AI is not just augmenting defences but influencing how organisations structure teams, allocate budgets and prioritise threats. At Fortinet, we are helping customers embrace this shift by embedding AI across the platform, enabling faster detection, smarter responses, and more resilient operations as cyber risks become more complex and distributed.”

Star Plus Legend Partners with Shanghai Museum to Unveil ‘CHOUCHOU’ Themed Art Show

– ‘The Remarkable Ancestors – CHOUCHOU’s Time Travel Adventure’
– Art Show Opens at Shanghai Museum

Duration: September 30, 2025 – March 8, 2026 (Closed on Mondays, except for public holidays)
Venue: Shanghai Museum (People’s Square)

HONG KONG, Sep 30, 2025 – (ACN Newswire) – Star Plus Legend Holdings Limited (“Star Plus Legend” or the “Company”, together with its subsidiary, the “Group”, stock code: 6683.HK), announced that on the afternoon of September 29th, the themed art show “The Remarkable Ancestors — CHOUCHOU’s Time Travel Adventure” opens at the Shanghai Museum (People’s Square) to align with the 36th Shanghai Tourism Festival. The event is guided by the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, hosted by the Shanghai Museum and Star Plus Legend, and co-organized by Shanghai JUCE Culture and Media Co.,Ltd., with renowned lyricist Vincent Fang invited as the cultural creative consultant.

The art show centers on “CHOUCHOU”, a nijigen-style personality of Mr. Jay Chou, as the narrative thread, blending digital technology with contemporary art. By integrating twelve treasured artifacts from the Shanghai Museum’s collection with modern technologies such as AI lighting, holographic projections, robotic interactions, and NFC digital card draws, the exhibition creates an immersive cultural experience where tradition meets modernity, and the past resonates with the future. This marks the Shanghai Museum’s first innovative attempt to merge traditional culture with contemporary art trends.

Chu Xiaobo, a member of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism and Director of the Shanghai Museum, stated, “The jade, bronze ware, blue and white porcelain, and famille rose porcelain lying dormant in the museum are not only markers of civilization but also embody the wisdom and warmth of our ancestors. This time, we are engaging with them in a younger, more vibrant way — allowing the treasures of the Shanghai Museum to engage in a cross-temporal dialogue with CHOUCHOU’s trendy imagination. This collaboration aims to humbly learn from our ancestors while using creative trends to write new chapters for tradition, marking an innovative practice.”

Vincent Fang, Chief Cultural Officer of Star Plus Legend and cultural creative consultant for the art show, shared his insights: “From the misty elegance of Blue and White Porcelain to the classical imagery of Hair White as Snow, we have always strived to do one thing: bottle the ‘charm’ of traditional culture in the vessel of pop culture. This themed art show perfectly echoes our decades-long exploration in music creation — how to make tradition and trends not just additive but create a magical chemical reaction, achieving a deep fusion of ‘ancient essence’ and ‘new expression.’”

Ma Hsin-Ting, Chairperson, Founder, and Executive Director of Star Plus Legend, remarked, “Through the ‘CHOUCHOU’ IP, we aim to build a bridge — bringing museum artifacts to the younger generation in an innovative way while sparking their curiosity to explore museums. Our collaboration with the Shanghai Museum is not merely a trendy event; it represents how, through dialogue with national treasures, ‘CHOUCHOU’ transforms from a trendy IP into a cultural communicator. Through spatial aesthetics and digital art expressions, it helps young people more intuitively understand the wisdom of our ancestors and reflect their aspirations for a beautiful life. This represents a dual ‘elevation’ and ‘breakout’ for the IP’s cultural depth and audience reach.” At the afternoon press conference, Zhou Peimin, Chief Operating Officer of Star Plus Legend, added, “CHOUCHOU carries the nostalgic memories of many people, but we hope it goes beyond nostalgia to become a bridge connecting tradition with the future, and the East with the world.”

At the opening ceremony, Chu Xiaobo, Member of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism and Director of the Shanghai Museum; Cheng Meihong, First-Level Inspector of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism; Tang Shifen, Director of Management Committee of the Shanghai Museum; Ma Hsin-Ting, Chairperson, Founder, and Executive Director of Star Plus Legend; Vincent Fang, Chief Cultural Officer of Star Plus Legend and Cultural Creative Consultant for the art show; and Hu Zhe, Chairman of Shanghai JUCE Culture and Media Co.,Ltd., jointly inaugurated the art show.

In the art show, visitors follow CHOUCHOU’s time machine through a “space-time tunnel” of light and shadow. In the “Jade Meeting the Future” section, audiences explore reverence for heaven and earth through ancient jade rituals. The “Bronze Spanning Generations” section transports viewers to the Shang and Zhou dynasties over 3,000 years ago, showcasing the peak of bronze craftsmanship. In the “Blue-and-white Martial Arts Hall” the cultural significance of blue-and-white porcelain, which traveled across oceans, comes to life. The “Pastel Romance” section reflects our ancestors’ aspirations for a beautiful life. The art show also features a “Trendy Code” printmaking zone, a “J-Style Trip Immersive Space,” a “Carnival Fantasy Island,” and a “Carousel” themed cultural and creative merchandise area, inviting visitors to explore.

Traditional Culture Meets Trendy Art: Breathing New Life into Ancient Stories

The Shanghai Museum has long been committed to “bringing cultural relics to life.” Its latest collaboration with CHOUCHOU, an IP that represents youth, trendiness, and the future, is a bold and innovative attempt.

This art show is not merely a listing of cultural relics and IP; it truly allows them to“speak”. For example, the Jade Deity from more than 4,000 years ago is transformed through a trendy reinterpretation into a giant holographic CHOUCHOU wearing a futuristic crown, showcasing the beauty of Chinese jade in the “Jade Meeting the Future” archaeological-concept exhibition area. Elements of the Da Ke Ding are integrated into armor design; in the “Bronze Spanning Generations” zone, the Bronze Guardian CHOUCHOU will guard the cultural treasures of our ancestors. Ancient coin patterns inspire the creation of 10,000 digital art collectible cards, linking the beautiful expectations of abundance in life across past, present, and future. In the “Blue-and-white Martial Arts Hall” visitors can admire precious blue-and-white porcelains from the Shanghai Museum’ collection, including the Jingdezhen kiln Blue-and-White Lotus-Scroll Double-Ear Vase and the Blue-and-White Camellia Flat Flask . A kung fu robot painted with blue-and-white porcelain patterns will take the stage, performing agile martial arts and blending intangible craftsmanship with technological vitality. The “Pastel Romance” section combines pinkcolor beloved by Jay Chou, with treasures from the Qianlong reign period of the Qing dynasty, such as the Jingdezhen Porcelain Powdered Color Baby Play Bottle and the Powdered Color Lotus Pattern Covered Bowl , allowing visitors to travel through time and experience the charm of famille rose romance.

Drawing Inspiration from Ancient Culture as the Source of Art

Themed “The Remarkable Ancestors”, the art show cleverly pairs 12 treasured artifacts from the Shanghai Museum’s collection with CHOUCHOU, a cultural symbol embodying the collective memories of the post-1980s and post-1990s generations. This collaboration creates a dialogue that spans time and space, exploring a pressing question of our era: In the digital age, how can ancient cultural relics enter contemporary life with a fresh and cutting-edge presence’ How can popular culture draw nourishment from profound tradition to achieve deeper meaning’

Here, the Shanghai Museum’s collections serve as living entities full of stories. Artistic inspiration is drawn from these relics and, through the CHOUCHOU IP, transformed into emotional values that resonate with young people, making culture tangible, perceptible, and shareable.

On the first floor of the People’s Square building, visitors can also enjoy a cultural restoration VR experience. Using the CHOUCHOU IP as an emotional link, the VR zone employs XR technology to create an immersive cultural adventure that integrates music, cultural relics, technology, and storytelling. Visitors take on the role of relic restorers, traveling through the world of artifacts to collect three cultural energies: “Craftsmanship,” “Inner-Outer Cultivation,” and “Harmony Between Heaven and Humanity” — all to rescue CHOUCHOU. Along the journey, visitors can recreate the artistry of blue-and-white porcelain in a ceramic workshop, master the balance of strength and softness in an ancient martial arena, and explore the mysteries of jade in a grand palace.

Encouraging Young Visitors and Making the Museum a Trendy Destination

The theme “The Remarkable Ancestors” pays tribute to the forebears who created a brilliant civilization, while also expressing continuity—the idea that civilization can truly “live” only when it is constantly retold, reinterpreted, and embraced. The best inheritance is to let the past become the foundation for the future. The Shanghai Museum hopes that through this initiative, it can attract diverse audiences to return repeatedly, helping more young people realize that traditional culture is never boring; it is full of charm, inspiration, and fun. The museum itself can be trendy, youthful, and approachable. Every visitor entering this time-space encounter is invited to discover a unique blend of cultural confidence and modern creativity.

The themed art show is a ticketed experience and is now open for sales. Ticket options include: Standard Ticket (RMB 88), Weekday Ticket (RMB 68), Concession Ticket (RMB 44), VR Experience Ticket (RMB 68), and Combo Ticket (RMB 128, which includes both the art show and VR experience).

The art show offers the following ticket discounts:
