Malaysia Expands Deployment of BlackBerry Secure Communications for the 46th and 47th ASEAN Summits

Malaysia modernizes mobile command and control, securing voice and messaging for inter-agency coordination with BlackBerry AtHoc and BlackBerry SecuSUITE

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB) today announced that Malaysia has deployed BlackBerry® AtHoc® and BlackBerry® SecuSUITE® to secure communications and protect people during the ASEAN Summit events in 2025, including the 46th ASEAN Summit held in May, and the 47th ASEAN Summit taking place in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28.

The ASEAN Summits are among the region’s most complex diplomatic events, involving more than 500 meetings and thousands of personnel across multiple government agencies. Coordinated by Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the ASEAN Main Logistics Secretariat (SILA), the Summits bring together heads of state, ministers, and officials from ASEAN member countries and key partners across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Following a successful deployment at the 46th Summit, SILA has expanded its use of BlackBerry’s secure communications platform to protect command and control operations, both within the Summit’s operations center and on the move. As advanced signal intelligence capabilities become increasingly available to malicious actors, safeguarding mobile communications has never been more critical.

BlackBerry AtHoc, a critical event management platform, combines secure emergency notifications with incident response tools to enable real-time mobile coordination across agencies. BlackBerry SecuSUITE, a NATO-certified, military-grade secure voice and messaging solution, protects sensitive conversations from interception and espionage targeting mobile communications.

His Excellency Raja Saifful Ridzuwan Raja Kamaruddin, Head of SILA, said: “Around 80% of our inter-agency communications are secured – and some are highly confidential and directly tied to the safety of Heads of State and officials. With BlackBerry, we found an encrypted, open communications platform that protects sensitive information while improving coordination.”

John Giamatteo, CEO of BlackBerry, added: “As ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia is setting a new standard for sovereign secure communications at scale. BlackBerry is honoured to support SILA and the Government of Malaysia with advanced, military-grade solutions that safeguard people, protect sensitive conversations, and keep complex operations moving in real time.”

During the 46th Summit, 100 liaison officers (LOs) used BlackBerry AtHoc to send secure, location-based alerts and manage coordination. The upcoming 47th Summit will expand to 150 LOs, all equipped with AtHoc and SecuSUITE on iOS and standard Android devices. This flexibility allows LOs to securely communicate with visiting delegations and foreign teams, reducing the number of devices needed while maintaining end-to-end encrypted voice and secure messaging from anywhere.

BlackBerry AtHoc also enables mobile command-and-control, helping officials monitor movements, respond swiftly to weather or security incidents, and coordinate seamlessly across agencies such as the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) using validated, secure information.

“Five minutes can mean 50 missed messages,” H.E. Raja Saifful added. “BlackBerry AtHoc streamlines how we communicate across agencies, while SecuSUITE encrypts voice instructions to prevent eavesdropping and leaks. For the 47th ASEAN Summit, we are expanding both solutions to deliver a safe, seamless, and highly coordinated event.”

The technology and standards deployed are comparable to those used during the 2018 and 2025 G7 Summits and Ministerial Meetings, where the Government of Canada’s Summits Management Office under Global Affairs Canada relied on BlackBerry AtHoc for secure, integrated communication across multiple government departments-setting a benchmark for operational resilience and inter-agency collaboration.

BlackBerry SecuSUITE Expands to Windows Devices, Extending Sovereign-Grade Protection Across the Digital Workplace

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB) today announced the expansion of BlackBerry® SecuSUITE® to Windows® devices, extending sovereign-grade secure communications trusted by governments and critical enterprises to include laptops and workstations. This expansion will enable secure voice, messaging, and file sharing across mobile devices, laptops, and desktops, delivering the same assured protection through a consistent, adoptable workflow.

For end users, this means they will be able to collaborate securely from whichever device best suits their task – on the move, at a primary workstation, or working from a laptop – without changing the way they operate. They can review documents on a larger screen, compose detailed messages with a keyboard, or coordinate quickly in the field verbally, with all forms of communication working together to support a continuous flow from decision to action. SecuSUITE keeps workflows simple while helping to ensure every exchange stays protected.

For organizations, extending the SecuSUITE solution’s independently certified architecture to include Windows laptops and workstations enables mission-critical communications to remain secure as teams move between endpoints and networks. Communications will be shielded from eavesdropping, identity spoofing, and metadata exploitation, while deployment flexibility (on-premises, private cloud, or hosted) will allow agencies to retain full sovereignty and control over their data.

“Critical conversations don’t strictly happen in the field,” said Dr. Christoph Erdmann, Senior Vice President, BlackBerry. “By expanding SecuSUITE to include Windows devices, we’re giving users the same sovereign-grade protection they rely on during mobile operations, now extended to their primary workstation or laptop. This helps ensure critical communications stay protected and keep moving, fitting naturally into everyday operations and encouraging adoption without adding complexity.”

SecuSUITE is independently and vastly certified, with validations from NIAP, NATO Restricted, BSI, and CSfC, and is trusted by governments and critical enterprises worldwide to protect their most sensitive communications. As a core pillar of BlackBerry® Secure Communications, SecuSUITE extends this assurance to secure voice, messaging, file sharing, and crisis coordination – providing full sovereign control over how and where systems are deployed. BlackBerry Secure Communications is trusted by governments, defense agencies, and critical industries worldwide, including all G7 governments, 18 of the G20 members and 8 of the top 10 global banks, to protect sensitive conversations and large-scale coordination.

Availability
The Windows expansion of SecuSUITE will be generally available in November 2025 as BlackBerry® SecuSUITE® for Windows Desktop.

Malaysia Cybersecurity Center of Excellence Marks First Anniversary with New Partnerships, Scholarships and Expanded Programs

BlackBerry expands CCOE Curriculum with free cybersecurity training for women, students, government and low-access communities, fostering a more inclusive and skilled cyber workforce

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB) today announced several new initiatives in support of the Government of Malaysia’s efforts to upskill and grow local talent and foster diversity in the nation’s fast growing cybersecurity sector. To mark the 12-month anniversary of the Malaysia Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE), BlackBerry is providing scholarships for cybersecurity training to numerous women cyber-defenders, people with limited access to education and qualifications, as well as university lecturers and students.

At a ceremony and open day in Cyberjaya today, BlackBerry also revealed it will soon be introducing EC Council Learning, an enhanced cybersecurity skill development platform to expand the CCoE’s comprehensive curriculum with self-paced learning model for Malaysian Government employees, helping more men and women to complete courses in their own time. The hybrid cybersecurity program, featuring online and in-person modules, is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Just over a year ago, Malaysia envisioned the Malaysia Cybersecurity Center of Excellence as a global hub for workforce training, skill development and intelligence-sharing. Today, through partnerships with BlackBerry, ASEAN and global leaders, the nation is advancing this mission-equipping Malaysians with critical cyber-skills to boost capacity, inclusivity and defense against digital threats.

Over 40% of attendees at the Malaysia CCoE last year were women, reflecting positive diversity in the nation’s cybersecurity sector. To build on this progress and create more opportunities for all, BlackBerry is expanding its partnership with the ISC2 Malaysia Chapter to offer 50 scholarships for Malaysian women to access specialized training at the CCoE. The flexible program will include in-person and online courses from June to July 2025, with recruitment starting this month. In addition, BlackBerry is working with 42KL, a tuition-free, self-paced computer science academy, to sponsor 25 CompTIA ITF+ certifications for individuals with limited access to traditional education opportunities.

This news follows the recently announced partnership with Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) to launch the CyberNext Program, a national initiative designed to equip Malaysian students and educators with essential cybersecurity skills. In Phase One of the partnership, BlackBerry and TalentCorp, together with training partners ISC2 and CompTIA, are offering free cybersecurity training for 1,000 students and 250 lecturers at the world-class facility, commencing from July.

Senior Vice President for BlackBerry Secure Communications in APAC, Tash Stamatelos said, “In collaboration with the Government of Malaysia, we are proud to witness the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) thrive in its first year-strengthening partnerships, expanding programs, and offering scholarships that help to build digital human capital and support diversity in the cybersecurity sector. As a hub for learning, training, and collaboration, the CCoE is laying a strong foundation for cross-border and cross-sector engagement, advancing Malaysia’s ambition to lead in cybersecurity excellence across ASEAN.”

Jodi Robinson, High Commissioner of Canada to Malaysia, said “In late 2024, the Government of Canada pledged a $3.9M CAD investment in cybersecurity skills training programs at the Malaysia CCoE, to be implemented by the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst and BlackBerry – a clear example of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy in action. On this first anniversary, I commend the progress the Malaysian Government, BlackBerry, and its partners are making at the CCoE in addressing the critical shortage of cyber skills and advancing diversity in the sector. I look forward to the CCoE developing into a hub of regional cybersecurity excellence in Southeast Asia.”

Arctic Wolf and BlackBerry Announce Acquisition Agreement for Cylance

Arctic Wolf to enhance its Security Operations Aurora Platform with best-in-class endpoint prevention, detection, and response

Arctic Wolf® and BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB), two global leaders in security software and services, today announced they have entered into a definitive agreement for Arctic Wolf to acquire BlackBerry’s Cylance® endpoint security assets. Cylance is the pioneer of AI-based endpoint protection trusted by thousands of organizations around the world. With this acquisition, Arctic Wolf ushers in a new era of simplicity, flexibility, and outcomes to the endpoint security market, delivering the security operations results customers have been asking for.

Under the terms of the agreement, BlackBerry will sell its Cylance assets to Arctic Wolf for $160 million of cash, subject to certain adjustments, and approximately 5.5 million common shares of Arctic Wolf. After allowing for the purchase price adjustments, BlackBerry will receive approximately $80 million of cash at closing and approximately $40 million of cash one year following the closing.

The proposed transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in BlackBerry’s fourth fiscal quarter.

Arctic Wolf is a leader in AI-powered security operations, delivering its solutions from a single open platform to meet customers’ needs for effective, comprehensive, and reliable security outcomes. With the addition of Cylance’s trailblazing suite of endpoint security capabilities and enhanced AI functionality, Arctic Wolf will bolster its position as a market-leading platform provider, offering coverage from the endpoint to the edge.

As many organizations are looking to consolidate an increasing number of disparate security tools, there is a rapidly growing demand for end-to-end platforms.

“Security has an operations and effectiveness problem and endpoint solutions alone have failed to live up to the outcomes they have promised for years,” said Nick Schneider, president and chief executive officer, Arctic Wolf. “By incorporating Cylance’s endpoint security capabilities into our open-XDR Aurora platform, we will be addressing a rampant need for a truly unified, effective security operations that delivers better outcomes for customers. We believe we will be able to rapidly eliminate alert fatigue, reduce total risk exposure, and help customers unlock further value with our warranty and insurability programs.”

“I am incredibly excited to partner with Arctic Wolf through this agreement,” said John Giamatteo, chief executive officer of BlackBerry. “We see this transaction as a win-win for our shareholders and all other stakeholders. Our customers will realize the benefits of continuity of service and the expertise that a global cybersecurity leader like Arctic Wolf provides. Arctic Wolf benefits by adding Cylance’s endpoint security solutions to its native platform. Finally, as Arctic Wolf leverages its scale to build upon and grow the Cylance business, BlackBerry will benefit as a reseller of the portfolio to our large government customers and as a shareholder of the company.”

There will be no impact to BlackBerry’s Secure Communications portfolio of businesses, which include BlackBerry® UEM, BlackBerry® AtHoc® and BlackBerry® SecuSUITE®. The Secure Communications business will remain an integral part of the BlackBerry portfolio.

Redefining the Modern Security Platform for Customers and Partners
With the addition of a native endpoint security solution to its portfolio, Arctic Wolf is building one of the largest open XDR security platforms in the industry, enabling customers and partners to have the option to leverage more than 15 supported endpoint solutions. Arctic Wolf is currently the only security operations leader offering this type of optionality, which combined with its comprehensive approach to minimizing risk through security operations, makes it uniquely positioned to drive value for customers of all sizes and security maturity.

Cylance has a long history of recognition as a market leader, known for stopping 98% of attacks before they begin and trusted by many of the world’s leading organizations for its AI-driven prevention and detection. Recently, Cylance was named 2024 Customers’ Choice for endpoint protection platforms (EPP) by Gartner® Peer Insights™ for the second consecutive year. By integrating Cylance into its portfolio, Arctic Wolf will provide a world-class endpoint protection solution that rivals the best in the industry, complementing its endpoint offering with one of the largest commercial SOCs in the world that delivers unified security operations and comprehensive attack surface coverage.

“Organizations are looking to unify tools and operations via a single platform that can effectively analyze and respond to security threats, drive consistent security outcomes, and demonstrably minimize risk,” said Dan Schiappa, chief product and services officer, Arctic Wolf. “In the past, this has been a near-impossible, costly goal for resource-constrained leaders. By adding endpoint security to our platform, we will be delivering the security outcomes organizations want in one, frictionless operational platform to go toe-to-toe with today’s advanced threats, while maintaining our commitment to customers and partners leveraging other endpoint solutions.”

Perella Weinberg Partners LP served as exclusive financial adviser to BlackBerry and Morrison Foerster LLP served as legal adviser to BlackBerry. Cooley LLP served as legal adviser to Arctic Wolf.

BlackBerry Chooses Malaysia for Its Cybersecurity Regional Headquarters in Asia Pacific

BlackBerry Limited today announced that its Cybersecurity division has established its regional headquarters for the Asia Pacific region in Malaysia. Already fully operational, the office is based in the Cyberjaya area of Kuala Lumpur, taking advantage of the proximity to key emerging technology hubs and government infrastructure.

In another milestone for the company, the new headquarters and regional expansion in APAC signals BlackBerry’s ongoing commitment to the Government of Malaysia, following a landmark cybersecurity deal it announced in November 2023. BlackBerry worked with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to establish the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, a world-class training facility to help upskill the nation’s workforce.

Malaysia’s Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, said, “I welcome the decision to set up this regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. This will not only benefit Malaysia but will enable the region to take advantage of the cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions offered by BlackBerry.”

Tash Stamatelos, Vice President of BlackBerry Cybersecurity in APAC added, “Malaysia is a strategically important market for BlackBerry, and we are proud to establish our new APAC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur as part of our regional expansion plans. As the nation becomes Chair of ASEAN in 2024, we commend Malaysia’s efforts in advancing digital transformation and regional cooperation in areas like cybersecurity, and ongoing investment in skills, innovation and infrastructure to advance its economy. This is building a trusted ecosystem that is attractive for global companies like BlackBerry to invest and operate in, and we are excited about our journey ahead with Malaysia as our regional APAC hub.”

The team based at the BlackBerry Office at the Malaysia CCoE includes sales, marketing, threat research, technical support, professional services, administration and management and several skilled cybersecurity trainers, poised to support cyber-defenders from Malaysia and the region. With 2025 designated as the Year of Skills by Malaysia, prioritizing the development of a highly skilled, future-ready workforce is rightly a major focus for the country.

Recently, BlackBerry was awarded the Cyber Security (Service) Innovation accolade at Malaysia’s Cyber Security Awards 2024 on August 8,, in recognition of its commitment to building capacity and skills, boosting cyber-resilience and supporting Malaysia’s journey to becoming a secure digital nation.

BlackBerry Partners with ISC2 to Advance Cybersecurity Skills in Malaysia

  • Malaysia’s Cybersecurity Center of Excellence marks first six months, expands Cybersecurity Curriculum with more globally-certified training programs to help upskill cyber professionals in ASEAN

BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB)(TSX:BB) has announced a new partnership with The International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2), the world’s leading nonprofit member organization for cybersecurity professionals, to deliver its globally recognized cybersecurity training and certifications in Malaysia. In support of the Malaysian Government’s ongoing efforts to boost digital skills, capacity and cyber-resilience, the courses are now offered as part of the BlackBerry Cybersecurity Curriculum at the world-class Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) facility in Cyberjaya. Registration is now open for the first ISC2 courses taking place later this month.

As Malaysia’s digital transformation continues to accelerate and threat surfaces expand, so too does the demand for highly-qualified cybersecurity professionals. BlackBerry’s new partnership with ISC2 extends the range of internationally-certified courses available to cyber professionals at the Malaysia CCoE to help upskill and enhance capabilities to bolster defenses against ever-evolving cyber threats. The courses include ISC2’s highly sought-after Certified Information Systems Security Professionals (CISSP), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) and Certified in Cybersecurity (CC).

Han Ther Lee, Director of Education and Training, Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, BlackBerry, commented, “As Malaysia prepares for the ‘Year of Skills’ in 2025, BlackBerry remains committed to collaborating with government and industry to help educate, upskill and grow the nation’s cyber-workforce. We are proud to partner with another top-tier training institution like ISC2, further enriching the curriculum offered at the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence and giving cyber professionals in Malaysia and the region wider access to globally recognized certifications.”

The first courses offered through the partnership will focus on critical cybersecurity disciplines, including security operations, risk management, and cloud security, vital to strengthening national and regional cybersecurity capabilities, especially as the region pushes forward its digital transformation goals. ISC2 will provide comprehensive training materials, course resources, licenses, and ongoing support for all its programs.

Cigdem Bildirici, Vice President, Business Development, ISC2 added, “With Malaysia advancing towards a more digitally connected future and the accompanying rise in cyber risks, strengthening the cybersecurity workforce has become more vital than ever. We’re excited to collaborate with BlackBerry at the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence to bring our training programs to support this growth.”

Since opening the CCoE in March 2024, with the support of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), BlackBerry and its education partners have dedicated over 8,000 hours to train over 1,500 professionals at the facility. Several education partnerships also offer globally-certified training courses at the CCoE, including CompTIASANS Institute and the Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst (“the Catalyst”) at Toronto Metropolitan University, which runs its CLIC (Certifications of Leadership in Cybersecurity) training program.

Now in its sixth month of operations, the addition of ISC2 training programs at the CCoE is another milestone achievement for the non-profit institution, which aims to provide the most comprehensive set of certifications and training courses available in the Indo-Pacific region.

The first wave of ISC2 certification courses, Certified in Cybersecurity (CC) will commence by the end of October 2024, while the renowned CISSP and CCSP programs, will start in November 2024. Cybersecurity professionals and organizations across Malaysia and the Indo-Pacific region can now register for the ISC2 courses here. Additional programs, such as specialized workshops and advanced training, will be rolled out in the months to follow, providing continuous opportunities for upskilling and certification.
