FMC 2021 is looking for Instrumental, Theatre, Video Game music compositions from around the world

On March 28, FMC 2021– Unique International Music competition and Awards has opened online registration for the regular and popular competition categories “Instrumental Music”, “Theatre Music” and for an exclusive new category “Compose Music for a Video Game”.

1. Instrumental Music Competition

The competition is for Composers, Soloists, Instrumentalists, Chamber Groups (of any kind) Ensembles and Orchestras.

The competition is unrestricted, and musicians and players who play a classical instrument such as brass (trumpet, trombone and baritone), piano, classical guitar, cello, clarinet, double bass, flute, violin or viola or any special cultural instrument may enter the competition.

Only original music compositions and works with a maximum length of six minutes may be entered in the competition. It is not a condition that the compositions have never been previously presented. They can be older music works which have already been presented at concerts, performances or other public forms or online. Of course, contestants may include brand new compositions which have not yet been presented publicly.

These can be studio or demo recordings, or live recordings of performances and concerts.

In this category, FMC is looking to discover new, talented musicians and composers and to reward their beautiful and original musical compositions. At the end of the competition, FMC then promotes the compositions on its official channels and at foreign presentations.

Registration in this category is open online, directly on the competition page, where you can find all the information you need and the registration form. https://www.fmcontest.com/instrumental-music-2/

Studio, demo recordings or recordings from live performances of any type with a maximum length of up to six minutes will be accepted.

In addition to theatres, composers who work directly with theatres and compose original music to create an unforgettable theatre performance experience may also enter this

category. This also allows composers who are beginning this style of music and who may not yet have had an opportunity to create music directly for theatre achieve this goal.

“Theatres use a lot of interesting music in their programme structures, and much of it has already been heard in performances. We recognized this in previous years of the competition and are looking forward to this year’s entries. The best compositions for theatre will be selected by an international panel of judges, who are eagerly awaiting to hear the music and decide on the winners,” said FMC Director Vlado Zeleznak JR.

Registration for original theatre music is already underway online, directly on the competition website, where you can find all the information, details and registration form. https://www.fmcontest.com/theatre-music/

“With this category, FMC wants to discover and uncover new musical talent in the industry. Several rising musicians who turned to us with this also influenced our decision to create this category. We are granting their wish and offering an opportunity to participate in an international competitive environment and compose music or design sound for the professional video game “Air Missions: HIND” from 3DIVISION video game development company. Composers will then have their music and sound evaluated by members of a prestigious international jury and the opportunity to win great and practical prizes which they can use in their recording studios,” added Zeleznak.

AVIA OTT Summit 2021 – The Future of Video Streaming is Here!

With the streaming wars well underway and more competition than ever, consumers are streaming more and spending more, with greater churn than we’ve ever seen before.

The Asia Video Industry Association’s (AVIA) OTT Summit – The Future of Video Streaming welcomed 900 delegates and featured over 80 industry experts and leaders across the four-day conference this year.

Opening the OTT Summit was the streaming analyst Matthew Ball, Managing Partner of Epyllion Industries, who presented a deep dive into the OTT industry in the United states, being the most mature, most competitive, and most valuable video market with the most consumptive media consumers in the world.

In his session he highlighted that new subscriptions continued to dramatically outpace churn and content was clearly the key differentiator. And while content was king when it came to subscriber acquisitions, as a market matures it exhibits an unmistakeable preference for local content, as seen across the likes of China, India, Russia and France. “The OTT video industry is ultimately about content and the ability to create hit content is not equal,” added Ball. Another key point was the fact that aggregation was already here with services such as Apple and Amazon TV.

This aggregation has led to a change in the way platforms operate today. For Euan Smith, Group COO and CEO, TV, Astro, their role as a platform was finding the best content and packaging it up into attractive bundles for the consumers in the most simplistic and attractive ways. Emily Wee, VP of Content & Operations at TM Net, also shared platforms were no longer the gatekeepers, as there were many ways for the consumers to subscribe now. “For the consumer… there has to be real value that we as the middleman put into the equation.”

Putting the consumer at the heart of everything remained a key theme throughout the Summit, especially when it came to content strategy. For Kranti Gada, COO of Shemaroo Entertainment, their strategy was two-fold, with differing content to acquire consumers, and to keep them on the platform, as content challenges to fulfil consumer needs remained. As Lynn Ng, VP and Head of Content, APAC at Discovery Inc. summed up, “Ultimately, it comes down to consumer love.”

However, addressing and monetizing these consumers remains the big question for premium video advertising. While OTT and Connected TV have grown exponentially both in volume and share, there is still a lot of education to be done as there is a lot more diverse ecosystem in TV now. Shared Anita Munro, Chief Investment Officer at Mindshare APAC, understanding consumption, understanding audiences and knowing where viewing is moving to is key to creating more seamless consumer journeys and more immersive content experiences.

Rounding up the Summit, the technology panels also shared customer experience as the next frontier for innovation. For Raul Aldrey, Chief Product Officer at MediaKind, live sports presented the opportunity for hyper personalized experiences where fans could dictate how they wanted to interact with the content. Pankaj Kedia, MD, Emerging Markets, Dolby Laboratories, also saw a lot of opportunity for both content creators and service providers to uplevel their game, for higher engagement, consumption and monetisation. As Sunita Kaur, SVP, APAC, Twitch concluded, “Customer experience… is what is going to drive our future.”

The OTT Summit is generously supported by Gold Sponsors Brightcove, Google, Irdeto, TV5MONDE, Xandr and Silver Sponsors Alibaba Cloud, Encoding.com, iWedia, Kaltura, Lionsgate, Mediacorp, MediaKind, NETFLIX, PubMatic, SmartLabs, Synamedia, Vindicia, WarnerMedia, Zixi.

Film Music Contest 2021 and Awards: Registration in all categories is open

On March 28, FMC 2021, the unique international music competition and awards and one of the largest competitions of its kind in Europe now expanding into Asia, has opened online registration.

Composers have another opportunity to showcase their talent in an internationally competitive environment. An exclusive jury, composed of professional composers working for Hollywood, Netflix and national televisions, will award the best composers, musicians and filmmakers. The prizes for this year’s winners are values at a total of over EUR 58,000.

Along with the opening of the competition, FMC 2021’s official video trailer was also un-veiled:
https://youtu.be/x4F-IgfQjJg

The main part of the competition is dedicated to music composers, sound designers, musicians, music producers, and music and cultural institutions. This year, FMC 2021 is also introducing the opportunity to choose a competing film and compose original music for it using unique creative and artistic concepts.

For the first time, the competition allows you to enter the video game world and compose music and design sound for an action video game scene.

FMC is looking to discover new musical talent from among the rising stars of film and TV music. It will also aid beginning composers to try out their work on a professional film or video game and test their skills in preparation for professional work in the film and music industry.

“For musicians, composers and producers who are already active in the industry, a competitive space provides the opportunity to showcase compositions for films, TV serials, commercials or video games. Musicians who enter the competition with their own original instrumental music will also be rewarded. We have also not forgotten about composers of theatre music,” said FMC Director Vlado Zeleznak Jr.

Another part of the competition is dedicated to films, TV serials, videos from filmmakers, independent creators, and national or private television broadcasters. They can submit their audio-visual works with original music. The best will be selected by members of the international jury for the finals, from which a winning film, series or video with original music will then be awarded.

Mr S Iswaran, Minister for Communications and Information, Singapore officiated the launch in front of a physical audience of key industry players. The event was concurrently streamed live to a global audience watching via ATF Online+ and on Facebook. The ceremony was followed by a fireside chat between the Minister and Mr. Steven Chia, Presenter/Senior Editor of Channel News Asia, on the future of the media and entertainment industry, where he mentioned how companies need to create a wider variety of content, and the opportunities the Asian media market presents.

Active Engagements and Feedback from the Industry

Attendees were actively involved in the digital journey, and generous in communicating feedback of the platform, which included the following:

– Francesca Ibanez, CEO, CESCA Films: The organization has been really good, the cost was not high and the online platform worked. Was very easy to use. Easy to make contacts, that for a seller is of utmost importance.

– Carl D-Broughton, Producer, Manque: After crippling lockdowns and the global industry coming to a standstill, the online ATF was quite the godsend! The pricing was fair, the matching system worked well and the chat/messaging function made communicating easy. I confess to missing most of the conferences, but there’s the ‘catch-up’ option and, with the system available until the end of February, I’m still able to make new connections. In fact, given how these events usually end when everyone goes home, this ability to reach out for several weeks afterwards may yet prove to be crucial.

– Harry Kyoungwon, Manager, Gyeonggi Content Agency: Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, ATF Online+ has successfully linked content and media professionals with an easy and stable platform. With this platform, exhibitors could easily learn how to communicate with buyers and manage their video meetings. Hope to visit real Singapore next year!

– Shenthil Ranie, Vice President, Inflight Inc Pte Ltd: It was seamless experience to connect with potential companies and especially the My Schedule functionality was very useful.

– Kanji Kazahaya, Seller, Culture Connect Co., Ltd.: ATF is always one of the most important markets to meet key persons. Although it was challenging during a pandemic, the organiser has successfully created a decent online platform.

– Eugene Venkovsky, Sales Director, Open Alliance Media: ATF+ platform really works. Better than real meetings. So many effective meetings past few days.

– Rachel Wong, Assistant Commissioning Editor, Mediacorp: I really like the interface. It’s really easy to navigate.

Yeow Hui Leng, Group Project Director of ATF said, “We invited the industry to join our discussions on ‘Prelude to 2021’, the theme for ATF Online+ 2020. We are encouraged by the industry’s response, which shows the eagerness to engage towards a positive 2021. It also underscores the trust they placed on ATF to partner them to deliver the right leads and platform to continue doing so.”

Under the umbrella of Singapore Media Festival, the next edition of ATF and ScreenSingapore is slated to return 1 to 3 December 2021.
