WFIS to facilitate Indonesia’s most disruptive integration of Technology & FSI

Tech innovations are transforming organizations across sectors and are especially causing massive paradigm shifts in the financial services industry. In the wake of the situation, the world’s largest archipelago is propelling forward with its digital economy and has already produced multiple fintech unicorns.

While the 90 million unbanked Indonesians are the sure catalysts behind fintech’s growth, more and more companies are now also leveraging the favorable regulatory changes brought in by Bank Indonesia and the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The latter has even launched “Master Plan for the Indonesian Financial Services Sector (MPSJKI) 2021-2025” to further favor the developments.

Imbibing the opportunities arising from Indonesia’s current situation and to provide a direct gateway to its flourishing fintech market, the country’s most reputed annual FSI event, World Financial Innovation Series (WFIS) is coming back on 24 – 25 October 2023 at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta, Pacific Place along with an Awards & Gala Night to reward and celebrate the best of FSI.

With all major financial institutions looking to upgrade their structure with added digital offerings, Indonesia has now become a utopia for technology vendors. This is where WFIS comes across as the best fit for bridging the gap between financial institutions and technology organizations.

As for the upcoming 5th annual edition, the platform will host more than 700 technology & business heads from the leading Banks, Insurance & Micro-Finance institutions across the country. On the other side to calm the massive number of inquisitive delegates, majority of whom are seen procuring solutions every year, the platform will feature the most cutting-edge fintech solutions showcased by none other than the leading industry players.

Some of the exhibiting companies who have already confirmed their spot at the platform include Newgen, 8×8, iProov, Provenir, OutSystems, Perkasa, FEITIAN Technologies, IntellectAI, OpenText™ AI Cloud, Reward360 and others.

While expressing his views on the current status of the Financial Services Industry, one of the key speakers for the platform, Samuel Mulyono (Chief Data Protection Officer (CDPO) and Head of Cyber & Product Risk Assurance Group, Nobu Bank) stated, “While technology is an important part of digital transformation in Banking and Financial Services, solutions implemented in the past often focused on poorly designed and implemented technology resulting in high costs and limited value. Organizations often struggle to meet compliance demands and threats, and solutions are limited. I believe that today Financial Services are interconnected and related to global risks that may be inside or outside the information system. Cybersecurity and Data Privacy in Financial Services require innovation-based solutions.”

He further added, “I see that this conference is necessary for professionals who are increasingly dealing with many interconnected digital and global innovations.”

With a carefully tailored agenda, the event will also power a conference hall for companies and experts to project their thought leadership in the region and address the most pressing issues faced by the industry.

Another key speaker, Edisono Limin (Executive Director, Country Head of Channels & Digitalisation, UOB) gave a brief comment on the platform, “Attending World Financial Innovation Series is a good opportunity to absorb the latest information and knowledge from experts and help us on our digital transformation journey”.

The curation of topics for the conference has always been an important highlight. Some of the next-gen topics being covered this year include, ‘Future-proofing Indonesia’s Digital Banking Strategy’, ‘Empowering FIs with Cloud’, ‘Full-Suite Mobile Banking’, ‘Neo-Banks’, ‘Increasing Adoption of Biometrics’, ‘Transforming Banking with Low-Code No-Code’ and many others.

When asked about how Indonesia has shaped up to become one of the most favorable grounds for WFIS, Organizer & CEO of Tradepass, Sudhir Ranjan Jena expressed, “Indonesia is a live testimony to the platform’s continuous efforts towards fostering collaboration between the biggest financial institutions and the best-in-class technology providers. The active participation of key government officials, most renowned FSI personalities and the leading technology experts to forge a synergetic environment is the reason why World Financial Innovation Series returns every year to the archipelagic state.”

PhilSec Awards 2023, Philippines’ Most Gripping Cybersecurity Awards Show

The tenacity of the cyber criminals has gone so far and wide that organisations in the Philippines are incurring as much as $1 million or more to recover from the attacks. In the process of expediting their defence work to shackle the malicious actors, the Filipino companies have witnessed the emergence of numerous technology and digital leaders.

At PhilSec Awards 2023, the country’s most revered cybersecurity awards show, these avant-garde leaders were not only brought to the limelight but also got rewarded for their exemplary work. It was on the evening of 6 July 2023, at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila where the Philippines witnessed the year’s most glamourous cybersecurity awards show.

To give a bigger picture, the event powered the most grand celebration of cybersecurity and recognized its champions from 5 niche categories. The winners are mentioned below.
– Cyber Woman of the Year – Charmaine Valmonte (CISO, Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc.)
– CISO of the Year – Jojo Nufable
– Digital Leader of the Year – Lito Villanueva (Founding Chairman, Fintech Alliance.PH; EVP/Chief Innovation & Inclusion Officer, RCBC)
– Security Practitioner of the Year (Private Sector) – Edison Dungo (Director for Information Technology, Manila Doctors Hospital)
– GRC Leader of the Year – Noel Andres Perdigon (SVP – CISO, Insular Life Assurance Company Ltd.)

Unceasingly glitzy, the show had a very pompous beginning with paparazzi lights, photo booths and a red carpet to guide the VIP participants to the main activity area. To top it all, the show got an electrifying start with the most phenomenal performance by Urban Crew, Philippines’ most popular dance group that got fame with America’s Got Talent. The congregation literally got stunned by their ultimate flips, aerial moves, and irresistible swag.

The winners were announced by the Jury members that comprised none other than the most renowned thought leaders in the sector, LCOL Francel Margareth Taborlupa (Battalion Commander Philippine Army – Armed Forces Of The Philippines), Mary Joy Abueg (President – National ICT Confederation Of The Philippines), Allan S Cabanlong (Advisor & Former Assistant Secretary – Cybersecurity & Enabling Technologies, Department Of Information And Communications Technology (DICT)), COL. Joey Fontiveros (Deputy Regiment Commander, Army Signal Regiment, PA) and Mel Migrino (Chairman & President, Women In Security Alliance Philippines).

Expressing his views, one of the award winners, Noel Andres Perdigon (SVP – CISO, Insular Life Assurance Company Ltd.) commented, “Let me share with you a precaution that I stumbled upon while preparing for my Fireside Chat the other day. It says, ‘give a man a zero day, and he will have access for a day; but give a man the privilege to phish and he will have access for a lifetime.’ So what does this mean? We have to be vigilant, we have to create the culture of being security-aware, and live it every day, so that there will be no zero days and phishing to haunt us.”

On a lighter note, the glamorous evening also echoed with bursts of laughter as the stand-up act by Alex Calleja left everyone in stitches. All in all, PhilSec Awards 2023 was a complete experience in itself that started a new era of cybersecurity awards marked by a lot of flavour, style, and entertainment.

The participants were seen having a great gala time with a ravishing cocktail dinner for their indulgence that even included some fine entrancing champagne ladies.

PhilSec leapfrogs to the top with the strong support from NPC & CICC

At a time when the Philippines is battling a diverse spectrum of cybercrimes, organisations within the country are oozing as much as $1 million to recover from the attacks. Considered as the biggest hindrance to its growing digital economy, cybercrime has become a national concern.

Quite naturally, 43% of the private companies have increased their fund allocation for cybersecurity solutions and are on the lookout for the best cybersecurity vendors and a collaborative space that can develop cutting-edge counter-intelligence against cybercrimes. Even the Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has earmarked a budget of $10.9 million for achieving maturity level 5 which is the “resilient enterprise” level in the next five years.

While cybersecurity is gradually getting incorporated at the core of businesses, PhilSec the country’s most sought-after cybersecurity event is back to expedite the process with its highly focused platform. With its third annual edition happening on 4-5 July at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, PhilSec 2023 is going to host more than 600 pre-qualified cybersecurity experts including the Heads of Information Security, Risk, Compliance, Forensics and Cyber Law from the leading public and private enterprises across the Philippines.

But that’s not it! PhilSec 2023 will be followed by a glamorous evening with Awards & Gala Dinner on 6 July 2023 from 5 – 9 PM, to shine a spotlight on the region’s best cybersecurity talents across numerous competitive categories and further celebrate their excellence with a lavish spread of delicacies and cocktails.

Recognizing the platform’s past efforts in forging groundbreaking partnerships and upgrading the country’s cybersecurity landscape, the upcoming edition has joined hands with National Privacy Commission (NPC) & Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) who have stepped forward as the “Official Supporting Partners” for the event.

In a statement issued, post confirming National Privacy Commission’s support for the event, John Henry D. Naga (Privacy Commissioner and Chairman, National Privacy Commission) stated, “The commitment of PhilSec 2023 to fostering a secure digital environment aligns with our mission to protect the privacy rights of individuals and uphold cybersecurity standards in the Philippines. We are pleased to partner with PhilSec and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center to promote collaborative efforts in combating cybercrimes. By fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing, this summit plays a crucial role in safeguarding the digital economy and protecting the privacy of our citizens. We commend PhilSec for its efforts and look forward to a successful event.”

In just a short span of 2 years, the event has come a long way as it has emerged as one of the most trusted platforms in the Philippines for cybersecurity. It’s perhaps the reason why numerous leading solution providing companies have already confirmed their spot for showcasing their latest products and solutions at PhilSec 2023. The list includes Recorded Future, CrowdStrike, BeyondTrust, Fortanix, Riskrecon, Tekmark Group, AppSealing, SANS Institute, ThriveDX, Swimlane, Synology, BlueVoyant, Parasoft, YesWeHack, GTIS, Netskope, M.Tech, Symantec, Broadcom, Lumify Work Philippines, ITDEPOT Inc and others.

One of the key speakers at PhilSec last year who has again confirmed her participation for this year’s edition, Mary Rose E. Magsaysay (CICSO, Deputy Executive Director, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center) expressed her excitement for the event, “Going beyond simply reacting to cybercrime and pushing for massive awareness is inadequate as lead in protecting the Philippine Public and Private Sector as government is lead so CICC is happy to leapfrog the hybrid world to a cyber secure economic future and this partnership is the best public interphasing opportunity for us.”

The reach of the event has been so far and wide that it has also gathered support from other very reputable organisations which include CyberSecurity Philippines CERT, Women in Security Alliance Philippines (WiSAP) and National ICT Confederation of the Philippines (NICP). These organisations are the “Association Partners” for the event.

Mary Joy Abueg (President, National ICT Confederation of the Philippines) another key speaker expressed her organisation’s vision behind associating with the event, “PhilSec events have been a constant key factor in CyberSecurity cognizance thus the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines is in full support to its agendas as we share the same passion and compassion in sharing best practices, pushing for a responsible ICT development and creating more opportunities for digital growth! We always look forward to participating this kind of event and NICP is truly honoured to be chosen as one the Association Partner’s for PhilSec 2023.”

Top officials from GovTech Singapore, Procter & Gamble, DHL, Mercedes Benz and many others to speak at BYTES

Standing at the cusp of numerous digital transitions and technological advancements, Singapore has realized the deep potential of Big Data Analytics (BDA) and AI. The country is witnessing a growing trend among the public & private sector to incorporate these emerging technologies and improve business function.

While these domains are fairly new for a majority of the companies, there is a growing consensus to procure solutions from the best technology providers. Paying heed to the above developments, BYTES, Big Data Analytics & AI Summit is coming to Singapore on 25 – 26 July 2023 at Sands Expo & Convention Center.

To present the latest developments, cutting-edge solutions, use cases, case studies and a lot more from the BDA and AI space, the top officials from Singapore’s leading organisations will take the centre stage at the event.

Some of the top names include: Sachin Tonk (Deputy Chief Data Officer, Govtech Singapore); Christelle Young (Chief Data & Analytics Officer, Loreal Pte Ltd); Bryan Tan (Group Chief Scientist, Carro); Vikram Bansal (Director, GBG Marketing Science, Global Agency, Global Client Category and GBG Scaled APAC, Meta Singapore Pte Ltd); Jerry Ping (Vice President, SGX Group); Michael Andrew (Head of Data Analytics, Zuellig Pharma); Siew Kit Lee (Vice President – Technology & IT, Singapore Cruise Centre Pte Ltd); Prerit Mishra (Director, Applied Analytics, DHL); Nitish Ramkumar (Principal Data Scientist, London Stock Exchange Group); Lim Wei Ming (Head of Data Architecture, Group Technology Architecture, OCBC Bank); Milind (Data Science Product Owner and AI Specialist, Mercedes Benz) and many others.

The Chief Data & Analytics Officer for L’Oreal South Asia Pacific Middle East North Africa (SAPMENA), Christelle Young while confirming her participation as a speaker gave an insight on the growth of these industries, “The growth of Big Data and AI is fast, and it will touch nearly every corner of economies and enterprises, especially customer experiences. When things are racing so quickly, only the trained professionals know how to stay in the race. At L’Oreal, all employees in the SAPMENA Zone are being upskilled on data, and we continue to invest in our drive to be the leading beauty tech company.”

Singapore’s data usage is set to quadruple by 2030 wherein usage of data services by businesses is forecasted to reach SGD 13 billion. It’s perhaps the reason why the island country houses the operational base for over 7,000 MNCs. The rampant growth of industries like Big Data Analytics (BDA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have thus become an obvious outcome, which are leveraging the massive volumes of data being generated every day.

To project the numerous developments in the industry some of the key topics from the summit include, “Data Analytics and AI in Government”, “Data Virtualization”, “DataOps-Centered Engineering”, “Analytic Process Automation”, “Automating the Data to Insights journey with AI, ML and NLP for Enterprises in the Era of Digital Businesses”, “Big Data and AI: Shaping Singapore’s Digital Future by Unveiling New Insights & Opportunities”, and many more.

Even the Vice President for Technology & IT at Singapore Cruise Centre Pte Ltd, Siew Kit Lee, another key speaker for the event expressed the importance of the platform, he said, “Each of us has a lot of data that we collect, use, and keep for our own purposes. However, in a connected world, we need to be able to share data and information readily amongst eco system partners to allow all of us to be more empowered, proactive, and intimate in providing better services to our customers and higher returns to our stakeholders.”

While on one side the summit will facilitate a conference with a precisely curated agenda featuring sessions from industry’s topmost thought leaders, on the other side it will feature an exhibition with the latest products and solutions, showcased by the most promising solution providers.

This multidimensional approach is what’s luring the top profiles from these industries to take part in the summit as there is room for plentiful networking and collaboration opportunities through various channels.

Organisations like Amplitude, Fivetran, SingleStore, Alation and OpenText Vertica have already capitalized on the opportunity by reserving their speaking slots and prime exhibition spaces to showcase their best to the entire community.

The Philippines’ top-line cybersecurity event, PhilSec now backed by CyberSecurity Philippines CERT & WiSAP

The heightened state of cyberattacks in the Philippines calls for a collective nationwide action on the development and adoption of the latest cybersecurity innovations. While 43% of the private organisations have increased fund allocations to cybersecurity, the Philippines still needs an inclusive platform to accommodate the diverse requirements hailing from both private and public sector.

In tune with the same, the country’s most renowned cybersecurity event, PhilSec is coming back to Manila on 4 – 5 July 2023. The platform has made quite a reputation in just a short span of 2 years for attracting the biggest names and leaders from across key Government Bodies, Army and private organisations. Capitalizing on repeated success, this year’s edition is going to be way grander as promised by the organizing body, Tradepass.

To encourage the best participation and aid the platform in achieving its desired objectives, CyberSecurity Philippines CERT and Women in Security Alliance Philippines (WiSAP) have confirmed their full support and joined as the Association Partners for the event.

The Chairman & President of Women in Security Alliance Philippines (WiSAP), Mel Migrino after participating in last year’s edition had commented, “The way the whole event is planned and organized is actually really nice, it has a very good selection of speakers and the different topics that the event wants to showcase caters to the industry really well.” It’s perhaps the reason why WiSAP has stepped forward as the Association Partner for PhilSec 2023.

While the 2-day event is going to power some really intriguing sessions on the most innovative, cutting-edge topics taken by cybersecurity’s most influential thought leaders, there will also be a third day – 6 July 2023 that is set aside to host the region’s most awaited Awards show, PhilSec Awards 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The platform is also going to feature a high-voltage exhibition arena decked up with the most trending, latest cybersecurity solutions that will be projected by the industry’s front runners. Organisations that have already reserved their exhibition space include Recorded Future, CrowdStrike, BeyondTrust, Fortanix, Riskrecon, AppSealing, SANS Institute, ThriveDX, Swimlane, Synology, BlueVoyant, Parasoft, YesWeHack, GTIS, Netskope, M.Tech and Symantec.

With the event going to host 700+ pre-qualified cybersecurity delegates, the above mentioned organizations will go all out with their efforts to be on top of their game. These delegates include the top C-suite professionals, policy makers, biggest buyers, heads of various technology divisions and many more key decision makers from the leading public & private enterprises across the Philippines.

One of the key speakers at PhilSec last year who also graced the ribbon-cutting for the same, Mary Rose E. Magsaysay (CICSO, Deputy Executive Director, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center) expressed her amazement at the line-up of cybersecurity solution providers at the platform, “So I was going around the vendors’ side and I was surprised to see that there were quite a lot of vendors. I got to talk to a lot of them and they were really different. I haven’t heard the kind of solutions they had as they were very unique.”

Being the foremost event in the country for cybersecurity, the platform is now looked upon for addressing critical business challenges, forging strategic partnerships and imparting the latest intel on the most pressing topics.

Experiencing the impact and glamour of last year’s edition, Mary has once again confirmed her participation as one of the most crucial speakers at PhilSec 2023.

While the charm of the platform has been quite magnetic, resulting in the repeated participation from speakers, Carlos Tengkiat (CISO, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation) part of the same bandwagon expressed, “PhilSec is actually very good because it brings people together to collaborate and also the industry players to showcase their solutions which can secure our infrastructure and keep us in line with the new developments in technology and security.”

Organizer and CEO of Tradepass, Sudhir Jena expressed, “PhilSec 2023 will bring together all the best names from Philippines’ cybersecurity under one roof, thereby posing a networking opportunity like none other. Also, considering the enormous response we receive every year for participating at the platform, we are quite confident that this year’s edition will power a united front with the public and private sector standing tall against threat actors.”

DCCI marked a new era for Malaysia’s datacentre & cloud ecosystem

With Malaysian government envisioning a technology driven nation, especially to secure an influential position amidst Industry 4.0, the need for an enabling Datacentre (DC) & Cloud ecosystem has become second to none.

While digital industries are proliferating exponentially in Malaysia, the situation is primarily banking on a stable DC & Cloud ecosystem to fuel that demand. It’s quite evident that it calls for the public and private sector to work closely and come up with a framework that can support all the next-gen DC & Cloud solutions. To enable the same and promote the overall growth of the industry, Datacentre & Cloud Infrastructure Summit (DCCI) made its entry to Malaysia for the second time on 16 – 17 May 2023 in Kuala Lumpur.

Expressing his opinion on the summit, Shamsul Izhan Bin Abdul Majid (Chief Technology and Innovation Officer, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) said, “It has been a vibrant summit with familiar faces and industry players looking at new opportunities. It is a space for professionals to connect & network with each other.”

Numerous leading organisations took part in the initiative and participated extensively to share their expertise on some of the very central and highly advanced topics, along with showcasing their cutting-edge products exclusively made for all industries to level up their interaction with DC & Cloud. The stellar line-up of exhibitors included Veeam, Hitachi Vantara, Huawei, GreenBay CES, Cohesity, BMC, Kumpulan Abex Sdn Bhd (KABEX), Equinix, EdgeConneX, Cloudian, Cato Networks, Advanced Network Solutions Sdn Bhd, Sangfor Technologies and OceanBase Database.

While the above mentioned private organisations went all out with their efforts to provide DC & Cloud solutions to the other seeking companies, public bodies like Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), MyDIGITAL Corporation – Ministry of Economy, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, CyberSecurity Malaysia, KWAP, PLANMalaysia and Ministry of Health imparted the latest intel on the most pressing topics through their top-grade officials.

The Chief Executive Officer of MyDIGITAL Corporation, Ministry of Economy, Fabian Bigar raised a very important subject which got everyone thinking, “Datacentres essentially drive the digital transformation but apart from that, there are two areas that we are looking at – energy transition and digital transformation. Since datacentres consume high energy, they intersect between both digital transformation & energy transition. So, we think this is a very important discussion that we need to have currently.”

He also commented on the event platform, “Crowd has grown tremendously compared to last year. Really good speaker line-up with government & private sector, regulators and government promotion agencies. I think it is a good mix.”

The two-day summit attracted 500+ delegates from 200+ leading public and private enterprises across Malaysia to become the most powerful and influential congregation in the country for DC & Cloud, with all its major personalities under one roof.

Talking about the phenomenal response from the delegates, Eric Lim (General Manager – APAC, Oceanbase) stated, “It is overwhelming. We are extremely happy with the enthusiastic questions that have come our way. Many attendees have come forward with the digital transformation challenges that they are facing and we see that there’s a lot of value that we can add to help them in this application and infrastructure modernization journey.”

The conference agenda was very compelling and covered some highly insightful topics like ‘Hybrid Cloud Approaches with Intelligent Data Services’, ‘Green Data Centre Solutions for Decarbonising Data Centre’, ‘ServiceOps in Action’, ‘Data Centre roles in Smart City environment’, ‘The Hypernet of Things: Amalgamation of AI, 5G, IoT & Cloud’, ‘Leveraging Cloud Platforms for Supporting Enterprises in Disaster Recovery Plans’ and many others.

Participating as a speaker at DCCI for the very first time, the General Manager for Enterprise Architecture at Petronas, Marzuki Kamaruzaman expressed, “This is my first datacentre & cloud event in Malaysia and I am really impressed. I am hoping we can have more such events not just in Kuala Lumpur but also in other key regions.”

All in all, the summit was successful in driving a progressive interaction between the key industry stakeholders and enabled fruitful collaborations that can work towards the building the new era of Datacentre & Cloud in Malaysia.
