New independent analyst report shows increased importance of API and microservices strategies

Software AG receives highest score in the “Current Offering” category, named a Leader for its webMethods API Management platform

According to the Forrester report: “Good API strategy and design are a key foundation for digital transformation. By opening access to digital business capabilities, APIs drive agility to optimise customer experiences, create dynamic digital ecosystems, achieve operational excellence, and build platform business models. With cloud-native architectures gaining momentum, API management vendors have been investing in features for combined microservices-plus-APIs implementations.”

The Forrester Wave™: API Management Solutions, Q3 2020 report is a timely reminder of the importance of both APIs and microservices in helping businesses meet today’s extreme challenges. APIs and microservices are not only fundamental to rapidly adopting digital business models but are the key drivers to IT-based innovation.

Software AG is successfully helping companies to accelerate and succeed with their API initiatives with its webMethods API Management platform. It allows customers to rapidly develop and deploy APIs and cloud-native microservices providing the speed, scalability and flexibility fundamental to digital business models e.g. addressing tens of millions of mobile, or even locked-down, customers and users. These cloud-hosted microservices-based applications provide the reliability and the scalability which ensures that customers receive the highest service quality, maintaining and building loyalty in today’s disrupted and volatile markets.

In addition, Software AG’s webMethods API Management platform automatically exposes all microservices as APIs providing total API governance and management. “Overall, the solution is flexible enough to support a wide range of API strategies, especially for customers that are ready for the strong governance and discipline necessary to ensure strategic success of one’s API program,” noted the Forrester report.

According to Dr Stefan Sigg, Chief Product Officer at Software AG: “It is all about the business outcomes that drive the adoption of API Management and microservices frameworks. The speed of innovation and the agility of transformation programs will distinguish the successful ways out of the crisis. Software AG’s approach of de-coupling gateways from an API portal and the introduction of AppMesh to close the semantic gap between applications and modern infrastructure environments are the key ingredients in delivering differentiated value into core business processes”.

Software AG focuses on preserving freedom of customer choice. The Forrester Wave™ reported that: “With the elements of its solution architected as independent-but-integrated products, Software AG’s customers can adopt its solution via different paths. For example, its portal supports gateways from other vendors, and its Engage module adds on very useful capabilities for API hackathons and beta programs. As a buyer’s API program maturity grows, it can add formal lifecycle management with CentraSite, which provides a strong foundation for disciplined API programs.”

Software AG was evaluated among 15 software vendors on 26 criteria across three categories: current offering, strategy, and market presence. The Forrester Wave™ shows Software AG with the top score in the current offering category and among the highest scores in the strategy category, and stated that “The firm’s vision and future investments encompass key business and technical aspects of API value and technology features, including extended ecosystems, API product management, multi-cloud environments, and edge computing.”

As industries across the Asia Pacific region reel from the economic turmoil brought about by COVID-19, the role of APIs will become even more pronounced, given the need for accelerated innovation speed and digital transformation.

“As more organisations in the region embrace the API-driven economy, Software AG is even more committed towards developing innovative solutions that help fuel success in API implementation and consumer engagement. We will continue to focus on developing our API management offerings to ensure that our clients have the agility, speed and strengthened capabilities to thrive in a highly digitalised world,” said Anneliese Schulz, President for Asia Pacific & Japan, Software AG.

Software AG partners with Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM) to drive digitalization in Indonesian Government Sector

Software AG has announced a strategic partnership with Universitas Gajah Mada (UGM), Indonesia’s leading public University, to drive digitalization in the Indonesian Government Sector and prime UGM graduates entering the job market. The partnership will begin with two initial steps:

The first is an Educational Webinar on August 14, open to all government officials.

Software AG and UGM will host a Webinar on Digital Transformation in the Indonesian Government Sector.
UGM will present their most recent findings, including challenges to the digitalization efforts of government bodies in Indonesia, and recommend strategies for a fast start to becoming a truly digitalized government.
Software AG will showcase highly relevant use cases from various government bodies in the US, UK, Germany, Singapore and Australia.

The second step is an Academic Partnership.

Software AG will provide a market-oriented education through UGM, giving graduates entering the job market an excellent head start, forming an integral and critical part of the digital transformation of the nation.

Prof Ir Panut Mulyono, Rector of UGM, said, “A close collaboration between the private sector and academia is essential. This is in line with our Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim’s Independent Campus Policy, where universities are encouraged to develop partnerships with world class companies. With the upcoming Webinar, we provide thought leadership, views and ideas for the government sector to digitally transform in a safe and sustainable way; and with the Academic Partnership we are upskilling our students to support this transformation with a highly qualified workforce in the future.”

Anneliese Schulz, President of Software AG Asia Pacific Japan, said, “What excites me the most is the opportunity to support upskilling student talent into world class tech professionals, who will contribute to the development of the nation. And when we look into government digitalization efforts in Indonesia and elsewhere, integration is a key enabler to modernize and innovate. As the world leading integration technology provider, we can share proven use cases from various sectors as well as the key learning from government bodies worldwide which will benefit Indonesia greatly.”

The Ministry of Administrative Reform measured the e-government maturity level over 616 government institutions in 2018, and concluded that a majority of government institutions have been implementing e-services, particularly for internal work. However, these e-services share common problems: lack of integration, unsustainability, and low use, pointing to an absence of integrated and holistic policy, and partial planning and strategies in implementing e-government. Before 2018, there was no guidance and standard to develop e-services. As a result, “many government institutions in Indonesia have only developed partial e-services, even in the sake of innovation.” (GovAsia https://tinyurl.com/yyvsn3k6)

Bega Cheese selects Software AG to provide IoT dairy supply chain solution

Software AG today announced it has been selected by Bega Cheese to provide its Cumulocity IoT solution to Bega Cheese to launch a new IoT service linking the company’s farmer suppliers, milk transport and storage, and processing facilities.

The deal will see Software AG providing Bega Cheese with IoT solutions to provide real time data on milk production at farmer suppliers including volumes, temperature, quality composition, and transport conditions, to gain efficiencies in pickup and delivery frequency to reduce costs and improve traceability.

According to Adel Salman, GM Supply Chain at Bega Cheese, the company knew that IoT could be an excellent solution, especially with the use of real-time data for both inbound and outbound activities in the company’s supply chain.

“What we didn’t have was experience in setting up IoT projects, so we started looking around for a partner that could provide us with IoT expertise, resources, industry contacts and help with government backing,” said Salman.

“Swinburne University of Technology with its Internet of Things Lab and Industry 4.0 initiatives as well as its research partnership with Software AG was the perfect collaborator for us. Swinburne University listened to what we needed to achieve and together with Software AG, developed an IoT strategy with a set of solutions that met our needs. The university has also been instrumental in helping us to successfully apply for a research grant from the federal government’s Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P),” added Salman.

Tony Drewitt, Head of IoT ANZ, Software AG, said: “We’re excited to have this opportunity to work with Bega Cheese, one of Australia’s largest dairy producers. The work Bega Cheese is doing in the milk supply chain area is revolutionary. With Cumulocity, Bega Cheese will have real-time data and insights which will allow it to enhance its supply chain productivity and competitiveness with just-in-time milk pickup and processing requirements on a large scale.”

The scope of the project will include:
– a novel low-cost milk quality sensor enabled for IoT
– an IoT ‘live’ Supply Chain Monitoring system for continuous real-time monitoring of milk supply quantity and quality, farm conditions (i.e. humidity and temperature) affecting milk production, and milk pickup events across the supply chain
– a Dynamic Pickup Scheduling and Monitoring tool that utilises sensor data reporting milk supply change events to automatically maintain optimal pickup schedules, and pickup events to monitor schedule and process adherence
– a predictive machine learning-based Highly Accurate Forecasting tool for milk quality and quantity that exploits live and long-term historical data from sensors across the supply chain
– a Farmer App that provides milk forecasting together with milk quality and pickup alerts

Swinburne University will also develop and build unique new IoT sensors specifically for Bega Cheese.

“We’re excited to see the benefits that IoT can bring to our company. By working with Swinburne University and Software AG, we hope to be able to increase our growth across higher-value premium products thus enhancing the competitiveness for both Bega and our suppliers,” said Salman.

“We also aim to increase the company’s supply chain sustainability by reducing milk wastage and fuel consumption of our milk transport partners.”

The project is expected to run for a period of 12 to 18 months.

MB Bank turns to Software AG to revolutionise the banking experience

In order to grow alongside market demand, we needed to ensure that tasks are completed swiftly and smoothly. We decided to bet on Software AG’s webMethods to gain end-to-end control and visibility of our processes, and better align our business with IT. — Hoc Nguyen Xuan, CIO of MB Bank.

Software AG (Frankfurt TecDAX: SOW), a leading enterprise software company, announced that it has been working with Vietnam-based Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB Bank) to help them navigate increased consumer demand and future-proof business operations in today’s digital world through Software AG’s webMethods solutions.

With 15,000 employees and 4 million clients across Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Russia, MB Bank had to step up in providing customers with high-speed online services, while continuously improving business processes to support compliance. With rapid consumer demand, manual intervention was no longer a feasible option, given the time-consuming process of onboarding new customers. Additionally, the lengthy loan approval process translated to a high possibility of the bank losing potential customers to faster, more agile competitors.

Focused on building a computerised business process management system that could streamline and centralise its processes while ensuring adherence to local regulations, MB Bank has recognised the need for stronger capabilities that ensure its front-end systems are well-integrated with a back-end core. MB Bank eventually invested in webMethods, Software AG’s powerful application integration suite, upon realising that its future depended on a stable, secure, multi-channel integration platform.

“In order to grow alongside market demand, we needed to ensure that tasks are completed swiftly and smoothly. We decided to bet on Software AG’s webMethods to gain end-to-end control and visibility of our processes, and better align our business with IT,” said Hoc Nguyen Xuan, CIO of MB Bank.

While the bank initially invested in webMethods Business Process Management Suite (BPMS) to help tie together its many disparate systems seven years ago, MB Bank recently decided to go with webMethods CentraSite for API management and SOA as well. CentraSite has since enabled the bank to create a central, platform-independent application for defining, storing and describing assets. MB Bank can now reuse data in all its branches and subsidiaries, saving many hours of manual labor. MB Bank processes around 30,000 tasks per day for around 3,000 users through webMethods.

webMethods has helped MB Bank combine all systems and data sources to deliver a comprehensive, trusted view of its business functions while integrating existing and new technologies. This has resulted in optimised processes and improved work efficiency by 40% and a 30% reduction in overall operating costs.

“Asia’s financial services sector is on the cusp of rapid digital transformation. As integration becomes the norm, banks that are able to adapt and become more agile have a competitive advantage,” said Anneliese Schulz, Regional President for Asia Pacific & Japan, Software AG. “We hope to continue empowering financial services institutions such as MB Bank as they focus on optimising processes and bolstering speed in the new era of banking.”

MB Bank will continue to leverage Software AG’s solutions as it continues to scale up, enhancing its end-to-end process management, and integrating data silos across the organisation.
