Motul powers Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Racing to iconic P2 finish at Bathurst 12 Hour

Official AMG Performance Team, Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Racing took part in the world-famous Bathurst 12 Hour held from the 13th to the 15th of May 2022 with Motul as the factory-supported team’s exclusive lubricant partner. The #91 Mercedes-AMG GT3 finished in a brilliant second place, only 8 seconds adrift in the round-the-clock endurance classic, despite starting from the back of the grid. Changing weather conditions was the story of the day, as the Motul-powered car performed exceptionally well and held reliability for the entire 12 hours on Mount Panorama Circuit.

The Mercedes-AMG GT3 car used the iconic Motul 300V 5W40 Power lubricant for the V8 engine. The race was particularly challenging with the engine having to be pushed to the maximum for 12 hours on an undulating circuit forcing the race car to literally climb up a mountain over 250 times. It is imperative to have a high-performance engine lubricant when battling cars from different manufacturers and constantly driving at high RPM. Along with that, the GT3 cars go through about 40 gear changes per lap over the 6.2km circuit, accounting for almost 10,000 gear changes over the duration of the race. The Motul Gear Competition oil played a particularly important role in ensuring that the gearbox remains reliable and the car remains competitive as the team bid its efforts for the win. The team also used products from Motul’s Care range, such as the Brake Clean and Wheel Clean to keep the Motul-liveried car looking good every time it went out on track.

For Motul, this achievement is all the more significant, being featured on the podium of the Bathurst 12 Hour, an iconic endurance race globally. This race is renowned for being notoriously challenging and to win the team needs to have an entire package with the best drivers and the best car. The 300V has proven that it is compatible with the Mercedes-AMG engine through this incredible podium success. This lubricant is the same formulation that is available for purchase for everyday road users off the shelf. Users can take benefit from the racing-grade performance and reliability that has been tried and tested in a race-winning car at Australia’s most prestigious endurance event.

QUOTES

Carlo Savoca | Chief Marketing Officer, Motul Asia Pacific

“Big congratulations to Mercedes-AMG on the 1-2-3 here at Bathurst! I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved at the Bathurst 12 Hour. To see a Motul-powered car on the podium, and coming from the back of the grid is nothing short of a historic accomplishment. I want to thank the Craft-Bamboo Racing team for showing trust in our products and displaying what Motul is capable of at one of the most demanding and challenging endurance events globally. Our goal is to give our customers the best products possible and this podium is a testament to what we strive towards.”

Darryl O’Young | Team Director, Mercedes-AMG Team Craft-Bamboo Racing

“Our race car powertrain takes tremendous punishment on a circuit like Mount Panorama. With the track running up and down a mountain, the steep climb up and the fast twisty downhill sections really push the gearbox and engine to their limits. Being in between narrow walls also brings up both engine and gearbox temperatures adding even more stress to components. Now to do that for 12 hours straight is tough, and that requires tremendous trust in our lubricants to deliver both power and reliability. We are proud to have Motul as our official partner, as we work hand in hand with the same passion and commitment to take victory at some of the biggest race events in the Asia Pacific region. We missed the big win by a mere 8 seconds this year, but we can be proud of the achievement nonetheless.”

The 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is set to get underway with one of the most historic races of the calendar. The 2022 Rolex 24 at Daytona will mark the 60th running of the 24-hour endurance classic at Daytona International Speedway to be held on 29th and 30th January. Motul will be powering the efforts of 2 teams, Pfaff Motorsports and BMW M Team RLL with their range of high-performance racing-grade lubricants, in the newly introduced GT Daytona Pro (GTD Pro) category.

Pfaff Motorsports secured the GTD Championship in 2021 after a dominant performance. Motul’s collaboration with the team began in 2020 and has been a fruitful one on and off the track. The #9 Motul Porsche 911 GT3 R concluded the previous season with 6 podiums and 4 unmatched class victories. They will be returning with the familiar “Plaid Porsche” livery and a brand new driver line-up featuring Porsche works drivers Matt Campbell (AUS) and Mathieu Jaminet (FRA) for the full season, along with 2-time IMSA DPi champion Felipe Nasr (BRA) for the seasons’ four endurance rounds. Pfaff Motorsports continues to place its trust in Motul lubricants for the 2022 season too.

Motul is also a long time partner of BMW M Team RLL, which will also be making its GTD Pro class debut at this event with the new and highly anticipated BMW M4 GT3. In 2021, BMW bid farewell to the M8 GTE at Petit Le Mans, which was racing in the now-defunct GT Le Mans class. Starting this season, the BMW team will be competing in the GTD Pro class with their refreshed 2-car line-up, the #24 Motul BMW M4 GT3 and #25 Motul BMW M4 GT3. The #24 will be driven by Philipp Eng (AUT), Marco Wittmann (DEU), Nick Yelloly (GBR) and Sheldon van der Linde (ZAF) whilst the #25 car will be piloted by Connor De Phillippi (USA), John Edwards (USA), Augusto Farfus (BRA) and Jesse Krohn (FIN). 6 of the 8 drivers racing at Daytona also contested in the M8 GTE last year, with the other 2 having plenty of previous experience in the series. Both teams look strong going into the season opener, which is gearing up to be an exciting race weekend.

Motul became the “Official Motor Oil” of the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2018 to support the top teams on the grid with the highest quality of synthetic lubricants. Their proprietary 300V along with RBF 700 brake fluid and other critical lubricants are vital in a championship series that features a mix of long and short races. Motul is a major part of the series, being title sponsor for Motul Petit Le Mans along with established partnerships across seven venues and events on the calendar. The Rolex 24 at Daytona is guaranteed to showcase thrilling multi-class racing action as the teams gear up to tackle the constantly changing conditions. The round the clock race also presents Motul with the opportunity to understand how their products perform in different machinery and constantly improve formulation to bring similar performance to everyday customers.

60th Rolex 24 at Daytona Schedule (all times in GMT -5)

Race Start – 29 January | 1:40 PM | Saturday
Race End – 30 January | 1:40 PM | Sunday

Dakar 2022: A showcase in the Desert

For motorsports fans, the start and end of the calendar year are always relatively quiet with little to no racing to watch. However, one competition that makes up for the lack of races is the Dakar Rally. The 2-week long event kicked off the year in classic rallying fashion on the 1st of Jan, ringing in the new year. Motul has been a long term technical partner of the Dakar, having stepped up in 2018 to become a Major Partner of the event. The 12-stage rally competition saw several Motul teams competing across various classes, along with Motul products being used to provide reliability and performance to the vehicles under extreme conditions.

The Dakar Rally is considered the world’s most legendary off-road race and this year it was held in the heart of the middle east, in Saudi Arabia. For Motul, the Dakar presents the best living laboratory to test and develop its products under punishing conditions. In collaboration with some of the most successful factory teams like Monster Energy Honda Team, Sherco Racing Factory, Toyota Auto Body, Can-Am Factory South Racing and many more, Motul offers specially designed and highly adapted lubricants derived from its flagship 300V line to deliver optimal power and consistency. The products are carefully scrutineered before and after every stage of the event to derive invaluable insights on how performance is affected under varying conditions. This allows Motul to further enhance its winning formula and keep evolving to cater for the needs of modern engines.

The 44th edition of the Dakar Rally saw over 1,000 drivers from 65 different nationalities take part across 7 different classes (Bikes, Quads, Cars, Light Prototypes, SSVs, Trucks and Classics) with Motul teams in each category. The event witnessed 578 vehicles entered, out of which were 34 unassisted Original by Motul riders. Several competitors also relied on the advice and expertise of Motul’s Motorsport Technical Team which works on global events such as the MotoGP and 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team of experts, available with the Motul Racing Laboratory at every Service Center assisted the competitors by providing daily oil analysis to ensure maximum performance under gruelling and unforgiving running conditions for engines.

For Motul, the Dakar Rally is an integral part of the development and innovation process for the year. The French lubricant manufacturer strives to improve and enhance its products at every step of the way. The process kicks off in the desert with vehicles covering more than 8,500 km over the course of 14 days, pushing the machines to the limit. Motul is also a big part of the competition with the return of the “Original by Motul” category which is open to drivers and riders from all categories who take part with no assistance or backup. Thanks to Motul, these courageous gladiators are given recognition and some basic comfort in the bivouacs between various stages in the event. Along with comfort, they are also welcome to employ products from Motul’s vast range of offerings in engine oils, coolants, brake fluid, transmission fluid and other maintenance and care products that enhance chances to perform to the best of their abilities.

Motul Celebrates Golden Jubilee of the Iconic 300V

Motul emerged as a pioneer of the lubricant industry in 1971 with the launch of the world’s first fully synthetic ester-based lubricant, the 300V. This new grade of lubricant ushered a shift in the paradigm of what could be achieved with cutting-edge technology in motor oils. Motul had not only created a revolutionary product, but also achieved unprecedented performance and reliability on the race track. 2021 is a significant milestone for Motul, marking the completion of half a century of the 300V brand. This year, Motul celebrates the illustrious journey of their flagship product. This celebration would not be completed without Motul’s discerning customers who have contributed to Motul’s success on and off the track. Share the love for Motul by using #LegendaryPowerRefined to join in on the celebration.

Since 1853, Motul has been producing the highest quality of engine lubricants. The 300V is the embodiment of Motul’s values and vision to provide a catalyst for high performance engines and evolve alongside those technologies year on year. Inspired by Motul’s 300 victories, the brand 300V was launched as a new fully synthetic motor oil. Although available commercially today, the 300V was initially synthesized solely for racing applications. It was engineered with synthetic base oils and ester additives to create perfect synergy of power and reliability. The technological breakthrough, called ESTERCore®, allowed the 300V to maintain its competencies under extreme conditions and constant stress, immediately gaining a reputation as the perfect oil for winning.

300V Timeline

There is a 300V lubricant for every type of engine and application to best suit the engine and keep it performing at the highest level. Motul has made sure to bring the latest racing technology to everyday consumers, perpetually improving their formula from feedback and cooperation from international competitions. Beyond the 300V, Motul provides a range of products including the 8100, H-Tech, RBF, ATF, CVTF and DCTF for other parts of the car.

In the coming months, Motul Asia Pacific will collaborate with some of the region’s top experts to test Motul lubricants first-hand and give feedback. Motul fans will be able to check out the experts’ reviews via their Social Media channels (watch out for #LegendaryPowerRefined) and on Motul channels.

50 years of the 300V marks an unprecedented achievement for the company. The legacy of this iconic lubricant is built upon a foundation of technological advancements and Motul remains committed to staying at the forefront of the development curve for decades to come.

Launch of the New Motul 300V at 24H of Le Mans

Launched in 1971, Motul 300V was developed to help racing teams accomplish maximum performance and reliability out of their engines, the holy grail of motorsport. Its name is a tribute to the 300 racing victories achieved by the time of its launch – but Motul 300V has gone on to help countless more motorsport legends to victory.Over the following decades, Motul has continuously perfected its flagship product and today, Motul 300V continues to propel the world’s top teams to podium glory. From Le Mans to high-performance cars, Drift Masters to Dakar rally, it has proved itself to be a game changing lubricant in the paddocks of top racing.

Fifty years after its first launch, Motul is proud to unveil the latest evolution of its benchmark lubricant: the new Motul 300V range.

The new Motul 300V brings many improvements:

  • Improved performance: The new Motul 300V racing oil improves your engine performance by reducing internal friction. This new formulation ensures proven power and torque gains across the whole power band.
  • Better reliability: Motul 300V protects your engine without compromising performance, by providing high shear stability for maximal oil film resistance, even in most extreme conditions.
  • Improved compatibility: Motul 300V now fulfills modern engine requirements: compatible with exhaust gas after-treatment systems such as particulate filters, compatible with biofuels (especially Ethanol) and protects against LSPI (on downsized engines).
  • More sustainable: Motul 300V features Organic base stocks using non-fossil renewable materials limiting the environmental impact and allows Motul to lower its carbon footprint by 25% during manufacturing process.

The range is split in 3 major series:

Power
POWER series features the lightest viscosity grades, available from 0W-8 to 5W-30, brings the maximum power and can cope with engines subject to low oil fuel dilution.

Motul propels Pramac Racing to maiden MotoGP victory

After a long summer break, the MotoGP paddock roared to life once again in the Styrian Alps, as the Red Bull Ring came alive for Round 10 of the 18-race calendar. The Styrian GP lived up to the hype, delivering loads of nail-biting excitement, unexpected shocks and heart-stopping crashes. The highlight, however, was Pramac Racing claiming their maiden MotoGP win after 20 years competing in the series, coming after a stellar ride by rookie Jorge Martin. Martin edged out defending champion Joan Mir of Team Suzuki and maintained his composure after an early red flag to seal a notably well-deserved win. Motul played a key role as lubricant partner for both the top 2 finishing teams in the race.

Jorge Martin claimed his first MotoGP victory

It was a vital race for the Pramac Racing rookie, having missed 4 races of his first MotoGP season due to injury. Martin was able to bounce back and deliver a powerful performance in Styria. He claimed pole position on Saturday and followed that up with an outstanding victory on Sunday. Pramac Racing has been making steady strides towards competing amongst the top MotoGP teams. At the start of the 2021 season, Motul was announced as Pramac Racing’s Official Lubricant Partner. The new collaboration was a direct result of Motul’s understanding and development of lubricants for racing machines. Since the Ducati team began using Motul, they have achieved 6 podium finishes this season. The MotoGP competition and results from the Ducati Desmosedici allows Motul to constantly experiment and innovate the product, to ensure Motul delivers the best oil to their customers around the world.

Although Martin set an amazing pace, the thing that was more commendable was his ability to defend from the 2020 World Champion, Joan Mir. Mir put up an excellent fight in his Motul powered Suzuki GSX-RR, however, fell short by 1.5 seconds when the chequered flag fell. Team Suzuki has been a dominant force in the MotoGP for many years, and the Japanese factory team has maintained a technical partnership with Motul for more than three decades.

Motul has held a reputation for developing the highest grade of racing lubricants for several decades. With Team Suzuki and Pramac Racing backed by Motul’s extensive R&D department, they are able to implement the latest lubricant technology in their motorbikes. The commercial 300V range is engineered by incorporating findings of performance in the MotoGP. Pushing the limits of the Motul lubricant is the only way to make gains, hence Motul continues their dedication to support motorcycle racing at the highest levels.

The Styrian GP was the first of two back-to-back race weekends at the Red Bull Ring. Jorge Martin’s brilliant win propelled him to P12 in the rider standings, while his team mate Johann Zarco managed to do enough to maintain his spot in P2. Team Suzuki’s Joan Mir jumped one spot to P3 and his team mate Alex Rins slotted in behind Martin in P13. Motul supported teams revved up for title fight after MotoGP summer break

The MotoGP is considered the pinnacle of motorcycle racing, featuring the best riders and manufacturers of 2-wheel motorsports. Having completed 9 rounds, the competition moves into the second half of the season where the championship fight is guaranteed to get more exciting. MotoGP finally returns after a 5-week summer break, with back-to-back race weekends at the famous Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. The Michelin® Grand Prix of Styria will be the first race of the Austrian double-header, kicking off with free practice on Friday.

Team Suzuki have scored solid points in the first half of the season

Motul, the Official Lubricant Partner of 2 top teams on the MotoGP roster, Team Suzuki and Pramac Racing, has enjoyed a successful first half of the season. Having secured a podium finish in all but 2 races so far, Motul has really showcased their technical prowess with racing grade lubricants. Being an integral part of the competition’s illustrious history, the French oil manufacturer continues to develop specialized lubricants designed to work in harmony with the high performance engines used in the MotoGP. The grueling nature associated with this discipline provides a vital test bench for Motul’s motorcycle lubricants.

Reigning champions, Team Suzuki has been working alongside Motul since the 1988 season to keep their MotoGP bikes reliable with top racing lubricants. Being the designated lubricant partner of the team, Motul products keep the Suzuki GSX-RR in prime condition for the duration of the competition. This collaboration of more than three decades is the perfect example of Motul’s commitment to innovation and development of their products in conjunction with the best factory teams around the world. Motul’s technical experts have been able to forge an excellent partnership with the Suzuki factory team, achieving championship success in multiple seasons. The knowledge from this engagement has played a monumental role in the development of Motul’s Factory Line lubricants which are used by racing teams in numerous competitions globally.

Pramac Racing has seen a significant improvement in performance as compared to the 2020 season. The Ducati Desmosedici has proved to be more competitive and achieved spectacular results. At the start of the season Pramac Racing announced that they would be extending their partnership with Motul for three more years, reiterating their faith in Motul lubricants. Motul has developed engine oils specifically engineered for the Ducati engine which responds to the extreme conditions and mechanical restraints presented in the MotoGP competition. The technical research and development from track applications has been incorporated into Motul’s commercial products that bring top tier racing technology to everyday consumers.

The 2021 Styrian GP will get underway with the main race being held on the 8th of August (Sunday) at the Red Bull Ring. The famous circuit, nestled in the Styrian hills, has a reputation for providing some enthralling racing action due to the flat out nature of the circuit. Its 4.3km track features 10 medium to high speed corners allowing the MotoGP riders to push the limit of their bikes’ top speed. Teams are gearing up for a significantly tougher race with predictions of thunderstorms all week. Racing fans however, can be certain to expect edge-of-the-seat track battles and top-notch driver ability. Pramac Racing’s Johann Zarco currently sits in P2 and Team Suzuki’s Joan Mir occupies P4 in the championship standings. With more than half the season still left to go, the competition is far from decided and will further heat up towards the pointy end of year. MotoGP fans can follow the live racing action on the MotoGP website (https://www.motogp.com/en) and on the teams’ social media channels.

Motul powers Honda motorbikes to a weekend full of victories

Motul and Honda enjoyed a long standing relationship, working together to develop superior racing grade engine oils for Honda motorbike engines. Over the July 17 and 18 weekend, Honda racing teams showcased how this collaboration with the French oil manufacturer has resulted in amazing results. F.C.C. TSR Honda France took their first win of the FIM Endurance World Championship 2021 season at the 12 Hours of Estoril in Portugal. Similarly, Motul-powered Team HRC secured the overall victory at MXGP of The Netherlands. It was an incredible weekend to celebrate for Motul, helping Honda achieve success across multiple championships.

The FIM EWC witnessed spectacular racing as the series shifted to the famous Cicuito do Esotril on the Portuguese Riviera. Notwithstanding some of the hottest temperatures of the year, F.C.C. TSR Honda France rose to the occasion and secured an emphatic win. Honda’s collaboration with Motul over the last few decades has led to the development of the Motul 300V Factory Line Racing Kit Oil 2376H 0W-30 ESTER Core®, engineered specifically for the CBR1000RR engine. The Honda EWC bike has proved to be highly compatible with this lubricant, delivering superior power output without compromising reliability. The 300V lubricant helped keep the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade SP reliable for more than 400 laps. The other Motul-powered Honda team, National Motos, was able to take a well-deserved podium finish in the Superstock class. They were also awarded the Dunlop Independent Trophy for a second race running. The strong results of both Honda teams was a testament to the performance the Motul 300V can deliver.

The fourth round of the FIM MXGP in The Netherlands took place in Oss on Sunday. Tim Gasjer from Team HRC went into the weekend as the championship leader. Motul has enjoyed a fruitful partnership with Team HRC, providing them with lubricants for the highly demanding Motocross competition and achieving championship success over the previous years. Team HRC’s CRF450RW uses the Motul 300V Factory Line Off Road 5W-40 4T to ensure high performance and reliability throughout the race. The lubricant is able to perform at high RPM levels and protects the bike engine from shocks and stress experienced in the dirt racing competition. Tim Gasjer achieved P3 in the first race and P2 in the second race, awarding him the overall victory for the weekend and extending his championship lead.

Motul’s association with Honda is the perfect example of the French company’s philosophy of developing and testing products in a racing application before making it available to a wider customer base. The high performance characteristic of the 300V has been detrimental to the championship success the lubricant has been able to attain for so many years, powering numerous teams to victory. Motul continues to work with OEMs to improve and innovate their products, providing the best results for their customers. The Honda teams’ achievements over the third weekend of July proved once again how well Motul 300V works to provide performance.

Motul 300V proves reliability by conquering double victory at FIM Endurance World Challenge 2021 season opener

The 2021 edition of the FIM Endurance World Championship kicked off at the Bugatti Circuit in Le Mans with the inaugural 24 Heures Motos. After a long season break, 46 teams lined up at the starting grid, ready to get the latest installment of the championship underway. The newly restructured Suzuki team, Yoshimura SERT Motul, started from P2 on the grid after a competitive couple of qualifying sessions. Motul played a key role in ensuring continuous performance and durability out of their EWC bike at a race that requires extreme levels of robustness. The Franco-Japanese team had a near perfect weekend taking 64 out of the 65 available points and establishing a healthy 16-point lead in the championship battle.

Like previous seasons, the #1 Suzuki GSX-R1000R was powered and lubricated by Motul 300V. Announcing the entry of the new team in dominating fashion, Yoshimura SERT Motul finished 8 laps clear of the rider in P2, taking a comfortable victory. The EWC bike was commandeered by riders Gregg Black, Xavier Simeon, Sylvain Guintoli and Kazuki Watanabe. It was a challenging race for the riders with some thrilling battles on the track, but their consistent pace and experience gave them a significant lead over the chasing pack.

Endurance races like this championship prove to be the ultimate testing ground for Motul products with changing conditions and extreme engine strain. Yoshimura SERT Motul Technical Coordinator, Quentin Menard, provided insights on the team’s choice of working with Motul.

Why does your team choose Motul 300V as your lubricant of choice?

“We have worked with MOTUL for many years and we trust them. With all these years, we saw how efficient Motul lubricants are! Motul 300V combines performance and longevity. We use Motul 300V because it is simply the best product we can find in the market.”

Endurance races present several challenging condition changes, how do Motul lubricants enhance performance and reliability of your bikes?

“With 24h Races, we face many different weather conditions. From hot temperature to hard rain, we know Motul Lubricants are 100% efficient. In fact, properties of Motul products (300V Engine Oil, Chain paste, etc.) aren’t modified even when we face hard changes in weather conditions.”

What is the best part about working with Motul to further improve the team’s performance throughout the FIM EWC season?

“Motul is a First-class partner for us, always attentive to our needs and developing regarding our request. At our workshop, we have all Motul’s products to prepare our Race bikes at our disposal. Since Motul guarantees us excellent quality products, we can prepare our bikes very carefully and without any stress because we know their products’ reliability.”

Furthermore, Motul-powered National Motos took an impressive victory in the Superstock class after starting in P7. The team quickly made up positions and was jostling for the top step of the podium right until the closing couple of hours in the race. With superior pace, the #55 Honda CBR1000RR came out on top and finished 2 laps ahead of the next best Superstock bike. It was an emphatic victory for the team and Honda, securing the best finish in the team’s history at 24H of Le Mans. Motul also supported the efforts of F.C.C. TSR Honda France, which finished P6 in the EWC class after a crash and untimely electrical problems saw them give up the podium places. However, the team demonstrated their true endurance spirit, fighting to make up for the lost time and gather some points towards the closing stages of the race.

It was a weekend to remember for Motul, with winning bikes in both categories being powered by their lubricants. The French oil manufacturer will be hoping to continue their impressive performance throughout the demanding endurance championship calendar. The FIM EWC moves to Portugal next, for the 12 Hours of Estoril in mid-July. Yoshimura SERT Motul currently sits at the top of the leaderboard with 64 points and F.C.C TSR Honda France is in 4th place after accumulating 36 points in the opening weekend. National Motos also occupies the top spot on the Superstock standings after scoring 60 points.
