Q2 Metals Confirms Discovery of 8 New Mineralized Pegmatite Zones with Assay Results from Its 2023 Mapping and Sampling Program at the Mia Lithium Property

Q2 Metals Corp. (TSXV: QTWO) (OTCQB: QUEXF) (FSE: 458) (“Q2” or the “Company“) is pleased to announce the results from the 2023 surface exploration program on its wholly owned, 8,668-ha Mia Lithium Property (the “Property” or “Mia Property“) located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory of Quebec. The Property is host to the approximately 10-kilometre-long Mia Lithium Exploration Trend (the “Mia Trend“) and is situated proximal to major hydro-powerline and all-season road infrastructure.

Due to the extreme wildfires in northern Quebec this past summer, the Company completed an abbreviated prospecting, mapping and rock sampling program from September 1 to September 15 at the Property (see news releases of September 13 and 27, 2023). A total of 219 samples were collected during the two weeks and the field work resulted in the discovery of eight (8) new mineralized zones.

The results of our ground mapping and sampling campaign highlight the considerable potential of the Mia Property and we were able to make several new lithium discoveries in a short amount of time,” said Q2 Metals VP of Exploration, Neil McCallum. “These new discoveries present many additional drill targets on the Mia Trend. We are rapidly advancing the Mia Property and are well into our inaugural 10,000 metre drill campaign testing these new mineralized zones.

The Mia Trend continues to remain the Company’s primary focus with 11 defined mineralized zones (Figures 1 and 2). Table 1 summarizes the results collected from each zone for samples that contain greater than 100 ppm Li.

The mineralized Mia Trend now includes:

  • The new MIA-3 Zone with six (6) samples averaging 1.50% Li2O and 131 ppm Ta2O5.
  • The new MIA-5 Zone with three (3) samples averaging 0.78% Li2O and 126 ppm Ta2O5.
  • The new MIA-8 Zone with nine (9) samples averaging 2.07% Li2O and 30 ppm Ta2O5.
  • The new MIA-9 Zone with three (3) samples averaging 1.90% Li2O and 66 ppm Ta2O5.
  • The previously known MIA-1 Zone with six (6) samples averaging 1.8% Li2O and 40 ppm Ta2O5.
  • The previously known MIA-2 Zone with eight (8) samples averaging 1.17% Li2O and 31 ppm Ta2O5.
  • The previously known Carte Zone with two (2) samples averaging 1.68% Li2O and 51 ppm Ta2O5.

Minimal field work was completed at the Bruce Trend to the north and a new high-priority trend (the “Lady Trend“) located to the south of the Mia Zone during the program. The geochemical results (tantalum, rubidium and cesium) from both the Bruce Trend and the Lady Trend affirm each trend as being prospective for lithium-bearing LCT-style pegmatite mineralization.

The Bruce Trend contains three (3) samples with background lithium, but elevated tantalum (up to 70.2 ppm Ta2O5), rubidium (2,470 ppm Rb) and cesium (64.7 ppm Cs). One pegmatite sample contains a potassium-rubidium ratio of 16.2.

The newly discovered pegmatite on the Lady Trend, located approximately 1.2 km south and parallel to the Mia Zone, contains three (3) samples with anomalous geochemistry. One (1) sample contains elevated lithium (214 ppm Li), and another contains elevated tantalum (up to 75.3 ppm Ta2O5), rubidium (582 ppm Rb) and cesium (32.6 ppm Cs). One pegmatite sample contains an anomalous potassium-rubidium ratio of 40.3.

Immediately beside the Carte Zone, five (5) spodumene-bearing boulders were discovered (Figure 2). With the understanding that the glacial transport direction is from the northeast- to the southwest, the preliminary interpretations of these boulders are that:

  • They are sourced from MIA-10, being the only known other mineralized zone to the northeast; or
  • There is a new and as-yet to be discovered zone present to the northeast.

Elevated cesium (Cs), rubidium (Rb) and tantalum (Ta) are considered indicator elements that the pegmatites are highly fractionated and thus likely to contain lithium nearby. Potassium-rubidium (K/Rb) ratios have also been an effective tool to map out the level of fractionation of pegmatites. Together, these indicator elements (Cs, Rb, Ta) and K/Rb ratios have been an incredibly useful tool to vector towards lithium mineralized zones in spodumene-pegmatite districts.

Follow-up work will be conducted on the Bruce Trend, the Lady Trend and the spodumene bearing boulders adjacent to the Carte Zone during the spring/summer 2024.

The Company’s inaugural drill program commenced on October 23, 2023 with two drill rigs testing the nearly 10-kilometre-long Mia Trend.

The Company announced the details of the first five drill holes that had been processed and sent to the assay lab on November 16, 2023. All drill holes intercepted pegmatite with visual indications of spodumene mineralization.

Q2 remains well funded, which will enable the Company to focus on advancing the new lithium pegmatite discoveries at the Property.

Sampling, Analytical Methods and QA/QC Protocols

All rock samples collected were shipped to SGS Canada’s preparation facility in Val D’Or, Quebec, for standard sample preparation (code PRP89) which includes drying at 105°C, crush to 75% passing 2 mm, riffle split 250 g, and pulverize 85% passing 75 microns. The pulps were shipped by air to SGS Canada’s laboratory in Burnaby, BC, where the samples were homogenized and subsequently analyzed for multi-element (including Li and Ta) using sodium peroxide fusion with ICP-AES/MS finish (code GE_ICM91A50).

Management cautions that prospecting surface rock samples and associated results, as discussed herein, are selective by nature and therefore may not necessarily be fully representative of the mineralized horizon sampled.

Q2 Metals Provides Drill Program Update at Its Mia Lithium Property, James Bay Territory, Quebec, Canada

Q2 Metals Corp. (TSXV: QTWO) (OTCQB: QUEXF) (FSE: 458) (“Q2” or the “Company“) is pleased to provide an update on Phase 1 of its inaugural drill program at its wholly owned, 8,668-ha Mia Lithium Property (the “Property“) located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay Territory of Quebec.

The primary objective of Phase 1 of the drill program is to conduct initial drill testing of the Mia Lithium Exploration Trend (the “Mia Trend”), commencing at the Mia Zone on the west end of the Mia Trend and continuing along the nearly 10 km long trend, to the Carte Zone. Phase 1 of the drill program will continue with one active drill rig at the Mia Zone area and one active drill rig at the Carte Zone area.

It’s exciting to have our drill program underway to begin testing our initial targets at the Mia Trend,” said Q2 CEO & President, Alicia Milne. “With the success of our condensed mapping and sampling program in September and the cooperation of the weather, the drill program will continue into December.”

“Our initial drilling has vastly improved our understanding of the Property and as we expected, the results show a series of stacked, parallel pegmatite bodies in a similar geometry as the James Bay deposit of Allkem Inc.1,” said Q2 VP Exploration, Neil McCallum. “We are interpreting this positively as drilling has also provided confirmation that the pegmatites are shallowly-dipping at between 25 and 30- degrees.”

Cautionary Statement:

(1) Mineralization hosted on adjacent and/or nearby and/or geologically similar properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralization hosted on the Company’s properties. As stated in a Sept-25, 2023 news release, the James Bay Feasibility study reports a Total Mineral Resource of 110.2 Mt at 1.30% Li2O, including 54.3 Mt at 1.30% Li2O in the Indicated Category, and 55.9 Mt at 1.29% Li2O in the Inferred Category, with a cut-off-grade of 0.4% Li2O.

Since beginning Phase 1 of the drill program on October 23, a total of 12 drill holes have been completed at the Mia Zone (8) and Carte Zone (4) for a total of 2,506 metres.

The geological team has completed the cutting and logging of holes MIA23-001 to MIA23-005 and the samples are currently being prepared for dispatch to the lab for analysis. The details of the first five holes are reported in detail, herein (Table 1). The basic information of the other seven holes that have not yet been logged in detail and cut is included below (Table 2).

Drilling commenced at the Mia Zone on the western end of the Mia Trend with holes MIA23-001 and MIA23-003 drilled as a scissor pair to build a greater structural understanding of the Mia Zone and assist in the identification of dip and dip direction and resulted in several pegmatite intercepts.

Holes MIA23-002 and MIA23-004 were also drilled as a scissor pair approximately 100m to the north of MIA23-001 and MIA23-003 and resulted in several pegmatite intercepts.

Hole MIA23-005 was drilled from the same section lines as MIA23-001 and MIA23-003 to test alternate dip direction and resulted in several pegmatite intercepts.

All five holes intercepted pegmatites with visual indications of spodumene mineralization identified2. All five holes will be shipped to the lab for mineral analysis to confirm the presence of lithium mineralization.

Cautionary Statement:

(2) The presence of pegmatites does not confirm the presence of lithium (spodumene or other lithium minerals). Pegmatites are fractionated coarse grained igneous rocks commonly associated with lithium mineralization; however, many pegmatites do not contain mineralization. The presence of any mineralization can only be confirmed with assaying.

In preparation for Phase 2 of the program starting in the new year, the Company has received permits and began initial work on the preparation of a winter access trail. The winter trail is approximately 30 km in length, and it will extend site access from the Wemindji Access Highway through the Mia Zone and end at the Carte Zone.

Q2 Metals Discovers New Spodumene Pegmatite Occurences and Extends the Mia Lithium Exploration Trend to 9.7 Kilometres

Q2 Metals Corp. (TSXV: QTWO) (OTCQB: QUEXF) (FSE: 458) (“Q2” or the “Company”) is pleased to provide an update on its surface mapping and rock sampling activities at the Mia Lithium Property (the “Property”) located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay territory of Quebec.

Four new spodumene pegmatite occurrences1 have been discovered on the Mia Exploration Trend (see Figure 1). Three of the outcropping pegmatite zones are located between the previously known Mia and Carte mineralized zones (see previous Q2 announcement from June 29, 2023). The other new discovery is located 1,400 metres northeast of the Carte Zone, thus extending the distance between the lithium mineralized occurrences on the trend to 9.7 kilometres.

A total of 136 individual pegmatite outcrops have been mapped along the Mia Exploration Trend (see Figure 1). Rock samples have been collected at these sites to confirm the presence of lithium or indicator elements which may suggest the presence of lithium nearby. The majority of the pegmatite outcrops along the Mia Exploration Trend exhibit a similar mineralogy and texture compared with the outcrops that have confirmed spodumene.

To date, 212 rock samples have been collected on the Property since re-mobilization. The crew will continue the current mapping and sampling campaign until September 15. Following that, Q2 will return mid-October to begin its drill program starting at the Mia Zone. It is anticipated that drilling will continue until weather conditions become unfavorable, and then return once again during frozen ground conditions in January, 2024.

“The work completed thus far in a short amount of time back on the Property has exceeded my expectations. The true scale of the Mia Trend is unfolding with our work, and sets the stage for our follow up core drilling campaign,” said Neil McCallum, VP Exploration for Q2 Metals.

Q2 Metals Resumes Exploration Work at Its Mia Lithium Property in James Bay, Quebec

Q2 Metals Corp. (TSXV: QTWO) (OTCQB: QUEXF) (FSE: 458) (“Q2” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce the resumption of its exploration activities at the Mia Lithium Property (the “Property”) located in the Eeyou Istchee James Bay territory of Quebec. The Quebec Ministry of Natural Resources and Forests has lifted its restrictions on forest access that has remained in place in the western James Bay region due to wildfires on and near the Property.

With the restrictions lifted, the Q2 geology team has mobilized and will immediately continue surface mapping/prospecting and rock sampling. The primary objective of the upcoming program is to explore and confirm drill targets along the approximately 8-km long Mia trend which is located within a greenstone belt. The secondary objective will be to assess the potential of the broader trends on the Property (see Figure 1).

“We are excited to get back to the Mia Property to continue our field work,” said Q2 President and Chief Executive Officer, Alicia Milne. “We have a short window to conduct meaningful work before the culturally significant moose hunting season begins, which runs from September 15 to October 15, after which time we will return to the Property to continue our work. We will be assessing the Property, camp, and surrounding area given the forest fires, community evacuations, and restrictions that have been in place over the past 3 months and we look forward to updating the market as we progress.”

“We have a plan in place to rapidly advance the known spodumene-bearing pegmatites and assess the high-priority trends,” commented Q2 VP Exploration, Neil McCallum. “I have confidence that our experienced geological team at Dahrouge Geological Consulting will be able to maximize our time in the field prior to drilling. With our time cut short this summer, we have modified our drill plan to test the targets this fall as much as the weather will allow, and then return in the winter with a larger program.”

Summary of June Exploration Work

In June 2023, Q2 completed a two-day mapping and sampling program of the historically known lithium pegmatites at the Property that resulted in the collection of 28 pegmatite samples. Six (6) samples were collected from spodumene-mineralized pegmatite and the remaining twenty-two (22) from non-mineralized pegmatite to broaden the understanding of the source-rock relationships, geochronology, and/or zonation of the pegmatite. A summary of the spodumene-mineralized samples is provided in Table 1.

Table 1 – Spodumene-mineralized samples from the June, 2023 site visit

Sample | Li2O (%) | Ta2O5 (ppm) | Zone
B00293504 0.55 72.3 Mia
B00293505 2.05 101.7 Mia
B00293501 2.73 61.9 Mia
B00293510 1.57 167.3 Carte
B00293511 2.01 93.9 Carte
B00293512 1.04 72.9 Carte
B00293507 0.02 160 Carte

Mia Zone

At the Mia Zone, the historically mapped spodumene-pegmatite was sampled and returned 2.73, 2.05 and 0.55% Li2O. This successfully verified the 2021 and 2022 work by the Property vendors of 18 grab samples averaging 2.65% Li2O.

The Mia Zone now measures a mapped extent of approximately 370 metres and is up to 140 metres wide. This represents an extension of approximately 130 metres to the north of the previously mapped extent. There are some inclusions of the host rock within these dimensions and there are unclear contacts in all directions leading to the inability to precisely report the true size of the pegmatite.

Figure 1. Mia Property Exploration Target Trends
https://images.newsfilecorp.com/files/1454/178971_0c2221b6a456093b_002full.jpg

Carte Zone

At the Carte Zone, the historically mapped spodumene-pegmatite was sampled and returned three spodumene-mineralized samples of 2.01, 1.57 and 1.04% Li2O. This successfully verified the 2022 work by the Property vendors of 3 grab samples averaging 1.65% Li2O.

The Carte Zone measures a mapped extent of approximately 110 metres and is up to 30 metres wide. Like the Mia Zone, the contact relationship between the host rock and the pegmatite is unclear and additional work is needed to determine the true dimensions of the pegmatite. Additionally, the next pegmatite located approximately 250 metres to the west was sampled and returned 160 ppm Ta2O5.
