AI Inference vs. AI Training: What Are the Differences?

Artificial intelligence has many uses in daily life. From personalized shopping suggestions to voice assistants and real-time fraud detection, AI is working behind the scenes to make experiences smoother and more seamless. Behind every smart AI feature is a process that involves two distinct stages: AI training and AI inference. While they’re both essential to building intelligent systems, they serve very different purposes and have unique requirements. Let’s break down the differences between training and inference.

What is AI training?
AI training is the process of feeding an AI model large volumes of data, so it learns to recognize patterns and generate the required output.

Training generally requires large volumes of labeled or unlabeled data, each of which may facilitate different forms of training.

  • Labeled data: Some projects require a model to make decisions or generate output based on established patterns or correlations. Here, it makes sense to train the model on labeled data using supervised learning techniques.
  • Unlabeled data: Training models on unlabeled data lets them detect new patterns and build an understanding of the relationships between inputs and outputs. This is called unsupervised learning.

Think of AI training like teaching a student using flashcards, quizzes, and feedback. During training, the model constantly adjusts internal parameters (often millions or billions of them) to minimize errors and improve accuracy. This phase is computationally intensive and requires specialized hardware like GPUs or TPUs to process large datasets efficiently.

For example, training an AI model to recognize objects in images might involve showing it millions of labeled photos of cats, cars, and coffee mugs until it can correctly identify these objects on its own.

What is AI inference?
Once a model has been trained, it’s ready to perform tasks. AI inference is the process of using a trained model to make predictions or decisions on new, unseen data.

Inference is typically faster and more lightweight than training. It’s used in real-time applications like chatbots, recommendation engines, voice recognition, and edge devices like smartphones or smart cameras. Inference is the test of training. If the output or predictions from your model are inaccurate, you may need to go back to testing.

Going back to the earlier example, inference is what happens when you upload a photo to your phone and the AI instantly recognizes your pet as a “cat.” The model has been trained to recognize cat images; it just applies what it already knows.

Where AI training and inference differ
Though both stages are part of the same AI lifecycle, they differ significantly in purpose, speed, and system requirements. Here’s a closer look at the key differences:

Objective

  • Training aims to teach the AI model by exposing it to data and helping it learn relationships, rules, and patterns.
  • Inference uses the trained model to generate output (such as predictions, classifications, or decisions) based on new data.

Time taken

  • Training can take hours, days, or even weeks, depending on the size of the model and the complexity of the data. It’s a resource-heavy, iterative process.
  • Inference happens much faster, often in real time or near real time.

Infrastructure needs

  • Training requires high-performance computing resources such as powerful GPUs or TPUs, and large memory bandwidth. Most training happens in cloud environments or specialized data centers.
  • Inference can often run on lower-powered devices, including edge hardware like mobile phones or IoT devices. Dedicated inference servers or GPU instances may still be needed in some cases.

AI training and inference work hand in hand, but they have different goals, requirements, and challenges. Training is about teaching the model, and inference is about putting it to work. Organizations planning AI projects must consider both phases when budgeting, selecting hardware, and choosing infrastructure.

HKTDC to release report on Hong Kong Businesses Navigating Mainland China E-commerce Retail Market – Consumer Survey Results

– Mainland consumers favour online shopping for Hong Kong products, view brands as high-quality, reputable and authentic

– 78% of respondents had bought Hong Kong products online in the past year particularly young consumers and those in areas with higher consumption levels.
– Online shoppers hold positive views of Hong Kong products and brands, giving an average score of 8.7 to Hong Kong products.
– Genuine products, reputable merchants and wide product selection are the most important considerations for respondents, over low prices and other factors when purchasing online.
– Mainland online shoppers mostly buy electronic, luxury and fashion goods from Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) released the research report: Hong Kong Businesses Navigating Mainland China E-commerce Retail Market – Consumer Survey Results. The results show that Mainland online shoppers generally like Hong Kong products. Overall, 78% of respondents had bought Hong Kong products online in the past year. Mainland consumers have a high level of trust in Hong Kong brands and hold products in high regard. This provides a solid foundation for Hong Kong businesses to expand into the Mainland e-commerce market. Hong Kong businesses can leverage the advantage of Hong Kong brands and choose suitable platforms for e-commerce sales. The upcoming release of the E-commerce Case Studies report will focus on ways to develop e-commerce retail sales and serve as a reference for Hong Kong businesses looking to expand their market in the Mainland.

HKTDC Director of Research, Irina Fan, said: “Mainland consumers shop online frequently, averaging 9.4 purchases per month. This is particularly true for those in tier-one and Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities. When shopping online, Mainland consumers’ primary consideration is whether the products are genuine, not low prices. This suggests that Hong Kong businesses can leverage the superior quality of Hong Kong products and the strong reputation of Hong Kong brands in Mainland China to expand into the Mainland e-commerce market. They can flexibly use comprehensive shelf and ‘interest-based’ e-commerce platforms to sell online along with methods such as live-streaming and short videos for promotion, and stand out in the highly competitive market through targeted marketing strategies.”

HKTDC Research commissioned an agency to conduct a survey of 2,200 middle-income or above consumers from different Mainland cities during the second and third quarters of 2024. The aim was to learn about their online consumption habits, as well as their preferences regarding Hong Kong products. The findings will help Hong Kong companies better formulate appropriate strategies to tap the Mainland e-commerce retail market.

Online shopping characteristics of Mainland consumers
– Mainland consumers shop online frequently, averaging 9.4 purchases per month. This is particularly true for those in tier-one cities. Shopping frequency among women (10 times monthly) is higher than for men (8.8 times). By age group, consumers aged 30-49 demonstrate the highest online shopping frequency, averaging 11.2 purchases per month.
– Comprehensive e-commerce platforms are the predominant online shopping channel, with 95% of respondents using comprehensive/digital shelf e-commerce platforms to shop online. This figure far exceeds the use of live-streaming/short video platforms (38%) and group buying platforms (32%). In terms of online shopping for cross-border or imported products, consumers prefer to use Tmall International or JD International, with 73% and 63% respectively choosing these platforms. Other notable platforms include Douyin E-commerce Global (30%) and Amazon China (21%).
– Authenticity, wide selection and reputation are top considerations for online shopping. An authenticity guarantee policy (15%), reputable merchants (11%) and wide product selection (9%) are the top three considerations for respondents when purchasing online.
– “Promotion” is the most important factor for consumers when buying newly-launched products online. Nearly 90% of respondents cited “promotion” as their primary consideration, followed by product quality and design (70%).
– Mainland consumers demand quick delivery. Mainland online shoppers, on average, get their products 3.2 days after placing an order, with fast fulfilment a key competitive advantage in winning over local consumers.

Wing Chu, Principal Economist (Greater China) of HKTDC, said: “Although online purchasing power currently clusters around tier-one and tier-two cities, the tier-three cities are becoming a focus for Hong Kong companies. Furthermore, irrespective of whether they are shopping locally or from further afield, consumers generally demand quick delivery, and their expectations in this regard continue to rise. The Hong Kong products that Mainland consumers most like to buy online are consumer electronics and electrical products (72%), followed by luxury goods (46%) and fashion products (41%).” It’s worth noting that Mainland consumers who purchase Hong Kong products online tend to spend a higher average order amount on children’s products, drugs and health supplements, and pet products compared to the overall average.”

Hong Kong products favored by Mainland Consumers
– Mainland online shoppers generally like Hong Kong products, particularly those in areas with higher consumption levels. Overall, 78% of respondents had bought Hong Kong products online in the past year. The proportion was 85% in tier-one cities, 81% in the Greater Bay Area, 78% in tier-two cities and 74% in tier-three cities.
– Hong Kong products are more favoured by young consumers. In terms of age distribution, 83% of respondents in the 18-29 age group said they had bought Hong Kong products online in the past year. This was closely followed by consumers aged 30-49 (82%), while the proportion among consumers above 50 years old was lower (65%).
– Female consumers in high-consumption areas tend to prefer Hong Kong products. While overall gender differences are minimal – 77% of male and 79% of female respondents reported purchasing Hong Kong products – the trend varies by region. In tier-one and tier-two cities, and in the GBA, significantly more female consumers have bought Hong Kong products online.
– Mainland online shoppers hold positive views of Hong Kong products, brands and online stores. The respondents gave an average score of 8.7 to Hong Kong products when compared with other products. Respondents from tier-three cities gave the highest score of 9.2. In terms of age, consumers aged 18-29 gave Hong Kong products the highest rating of 8.9.
– Mainland online shoppers mostly buy electronic, luxury and fashion goods from Hong Kong. The Hong Kong products that Mainland consumers most like to buy online are consumer electronics and electrical products (72%), followed by luxury goods (46%) and fashion products (41%). The GBA has the highest proportion of consumers buying consumer electronics and electrical products (79%), followed closely by tier-one cities (78%). The proportion of consumers buying luxury goods in tier-one cities (53%), the GBA (52%) and tier-two cities (51%) are comparable.
– Orders in food and drug sectors, and of products for children and pets, exceed the overall average. Among Mainland shoppers who have bought Hong Kong products online, the average order value for children’s goods is 24% higher than the average. Orders of drug and health products (16%), pet products (29%), and fresh produce and food (18%) are also significantly higher in value than the average.
– The Hong Kong “brand” enjoys a good reputation in the Mainland market and is widely seen as a mark of trust and quality. When asked to describe Hong Kong merchandise, brands and products, respondents viewed products from Hong Kong as “in compliance with stringent product safety standards” (28%), “guaranteed raw material/material quality” (28%), “guaranteed genuine products” (27%), “confidence in quality” (27%) and “fashionable look” (27%).
– Mainland consumers seek out official brand channels. Mainland consumers obtain information from official brand channels when choosing Hong Kong electronics and electrical products (31%), luxury items (34%), sports products (34%) and fashion products (26%). They rely heavily on product reviews when purchasing Hong Kong drug and health products (34%) and beauty products (32%) online.

Eric Chu, Economist (Greater China) of HKTDC, said: “Based on case studies of e-commerce retailers and service providers in Mainland China, Hong Kong businesses might consider using multi-channel operation strategies. This includes leveraging both traditional digital shelves platforms and emerging ‘interest-based‘ platforms to reach different consumer groups and increase traffic. However, some cases show that while businesses can collaborate with influencers/KOLs for “influencer marketing,” it’s important to base these efforts on market analysis and data to select influencer endorsements that suit their products. This approach improves promotional accuracy and achieves cost-effective, optimal marketing results.”

HKTDC will later release an additional report titled “Hong Kong Businesses Navigating Mainland China E-commerce Retail Market – Case Studies,” which includes detailed case studies of e-commerce activities and service providers in Mainland China.

The second Hong Kong Shopping Festival aims to help local businesses navigate Mainland China e-commerce
The second Hong Kong Shopping Festival, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will take place on Mainland e-commerce platforms from 1 to 31 August. Fully aligned with measures outlined in the 2024 Policy Address, the festival aims to support Hong Kong’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as they expand into the Mainland e-commerce market. As the flagship event of HKTDC’s E-commerce Express, the second Hong Kong Shopping Festival has attracted nearly 260 brands across seven major categories, including health supplements, food and beverages, home and living, personal care and cosmetics, apparel and accessories, smart gadgets, and products for the silver market. The festival features over 500 unique products and offers month-long discount promotions.

Atlas Lithium’s Neves Project Completes Definitive Feasibility Study Estimating 145% IRR and 11-Month Payback

Atlas Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ: ATLX) (Atlas Lithium or Company), a leading lithium development company, is pleased to announce that SGS Canada Inc. (SGS) has completed the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for the Company’s 100%-owned Neves Lithium Project (Project), a technical report prepared under the U.S. guidelines of Item 1300 of Regulation S-K (Regulation S-K 1300). This hard-rock Project is well-suited to being a low-cost open-pit mining operation, as its spodumene deposits are located relatively close to the surface. Located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the Project encompasses 4 of the 98 mineral rights for lithium owned by Atlas Lithium. As detailed in the DFS, the Neves Project is expected to deliver strong financial metrics with an internal rate of return (“IRR”) of 145%, payback in 11 months from the start of operations, and an after-tax net present value (“NPV”) of $539 million. Importantly, the DFS estimates the Neves Project to have operational production costs of only $489 per tonne of lithium concentrate, positioning Atlas Lithium among the world’s lowest-cost producers. Complete details of these metrics can be found in the DFS, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission as an exhibit to the Company’s Quarterly Report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2025. Marc-Antoine Laporte from SGS serves as the Qualified Person for the DFS under Regulation S-K 1300. SGS is well-known as a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification services for mineral properties and projects.

Industry-Leading Capital Efficiency and Low Operating Costs
The DFS supports that expected direct capital expenditures of $57.6 million will be needed for the implementation of the Project, by far the lowest such capital costs among other announced projects in Brazil. Notably, Atlas Lithium has already invested approximately $30 million in acquiring and transporting the Project’s newly fabricated dense media separation (“DMS”) plant to Brazil, as previously reported. The Company has secured two non-dilutive pre-payment agreements for its lithium concentrate totaling $40 million and has received additional funding interest from other parties, including 10-year debt financing options, any of which could support the Project’s capital requirements.

The Company believes that the DFS validates the Project’s strong economics, positioning it among the most capital-efficient and lowest-cost hard-rock lithium developments globally. The Project will employ proven DMS technology, with comprehensive metallurgical testing demonstrating an expected robust lithium recovery rate of 61.7% to produce high-quality, low-impurity lithium concentrate. This relatively straightforward, low-risk DMS processing methodology minimizes technical complexity and operational risk while enabling a low environmental footprint.

Atlas Lithium’s mineral right to be mined, as detailed in the DFS, received its “Portaria de Lavra” (mining concession) status from Brazil’s Ministry of Mines and Energy on May 27, 2025 — the highest level of titleship in Brazil and one that allows continuous mining operations. Multiple deposit areas within the Project remain open for resource expansion along strike and at depth and are thus expected to extend the life of mine. Additionally, numerous high-potential geological targets remain within the Project’s mineral rights, providing compelling opportunities for future exploration.

Located in the established Araçuaí Pegmatite District in the Vale do Jequitinhonha, often called Lithium Valley, the Project benefits from favorable infrastructure, including proximity to transportation networks, water resources, and skilled labor. The Project qualifies for tax incentives from the Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast (SUDENE), as promulgated by Brazil’s Ministry of Integration and Regional Development, reducing the corporate tax rate from 34% to 15.25% and further enhancing profitability.

“The DFS indicates potentially outstanding returns for our initial vision of developing a focused, near-term, profitable lithium production asset with minimal capital requirements,” said Marc Fogassa, Chairman and CEO of Atlas Lithium. “The combination of our low capital intensity and rapid payback period is expected to create exceptional value for our shareholders while positioning Atlas Lithium to benefit from future organic expansion opportunities at Neves and other high-potential lithium areas that we own. Importantly, we are creating many quality employment opportunities in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region, representing a significant societal contribution of our Project.”

Experienced Leadership Driving Project Implementation
Following his leadership role in collaborating with SGS on the DFS, project implementation activities are being supervised by Eduardo Queiroz, Atlas Lithium’s Project Management Officer (PMO) and Vice President of Engineering. Mr. Queiroz has more than two decades of hands-on experience managing complex, large-scale mining projects.

“The DFS demonstrates the technical robustness of the Project, with proven DMS technology and comprehensive metallurgical test work validated by SGS, a premier firm in the lithium space,” said Mr. Queiroz. “With our processing plant fully fabricated and paid for, and now with the DFS in hand, we have systematically de-risked the Project. I am excited to lead the implementation phase of Atlas Lithium’s journey to becoming a lithium producer.”

Salinas and Clear: The Next Expansion Frontier
Atlas Lithium is strategically positioned to capitalize on its extensive regional lithium exploration portfolio in Brazil, particularly through advancement of its Salinas Project and Clear Project, both 100% owned by the Company. Atlas Lithium’s Salinas Project is just 5 miles east of the Colina lithium asset previously owned by Latin Resources — a major factor in Pilbara Minerals’s acquisition of that company in 2024 for approximately $370 million. At the Salinas Project, Atlas Lithium has already achieved promising initial results, including the discovery of spodumene-rich pegmatites very close to the surface, and highly positive results from soil geochemistry and from LIDAR geological mapping.

Atlas Lithium’s Clear Project is located less than 4 miles from Sigma Lithium’s operating lithium mine, and represents significant untapped potential with highly positive results from soil geochemistry and from LIDAR geological mapping.

Diversification in Critical Minerals
Atlas Lithium also owns approximately 30% of Atlas Critical Minerals Corporation (OTCQB: JUPGF), a separate company with exploration programs in uranium, rare earths, titanium, and graphite.

About Atlas Lithium Corporation
Atlas Lithium Corporation (NASDAQ: ATLX) is a lithium development company focused on advancing its Neves Project to production. The Neves Project’s Definitive Feasibility Study demonstrates excellent economics with a 145% IRR, $539 million NPV, and an 11-month payback. The Neves Project has received operational permitting, and its dense media separation plant has been acquired and transported to Brazil. With approximately 539 square kilometers of lithium mineral rights, Atlas Lithium owns the largest lithium exploration footprint in Brazil among publicly listed companies. Additionally, Atlas Lithium currently holds an approximate 30% ownership stake in Atlas Critical Minerals Corporation (OTCQB: JUPGF).

HKTDC boosts Hong Kong’s competitive edge in high-value services

– “Digital Trade Masterclass” spotlights digital financing, e-bills of lading and retail supply chain management

  • The HKTDC continues to help SMEs seize digital trade opportunities by co-hosting with the ICC DSI a masterclass on technologies such as electronic bills of lading and blockchain. More than 200 SMEs took part.
  • Prof Frederick Ma, Chairman of the HKTDC, emphasised that Hong Kong is actively developing its digital trade ecosystem, with a focus on innovation, efficiency and international collaboration, to consolidate its competitive advantages. As digital trade becomes more common, the HKTDC will ensure Hong Kong businesses continue to thrive and enhance the city’s role as a leading supply chain hub.
  • Pamela Mar, Managing Director of ICC DSI, noted that by aligning its finance, trade and logistics sectors with global digital trade standards, Hong Kong can remain competitive and resilient on the world stage and is well-positioned to spearhead Asia’s digital-trade development.
  • Andy Lam, Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government, said that the Government is making reference to the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records and is considering legislative amendments to remove the legal hurdles in the digitalisation of trade documents. The target is to submit the relevant legislative proposal to the Legislative Council next year to help industry develop technical solutions based on their actual needs.

Digitalisation is reshaping the global economy, and companies must embrace digital transformation to capitalise on new opportunities. The 2025-26 Budget announced that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government would make reference to the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Records (MLETR) advocated by the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and consider legislative amendments to facilitate digitalisation of trade documents. The legislative proposal will be submitted to the Legislative Council next year. The MLETR is a global standard advocated by the UNCITRAL to provide a legal framework for electronic trade documents. Aligning local legislation with standards of the MLETR is a major endeavour in promoting trade digitalisation. In line with these efforts, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the International Chamber of Commerce Digital Standards Initiative (ICC DSI) co-hosted the “Digital Trade Masterclass” at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre to examine the MLETR’s potential impact on Hong Kong’s cross-border trade. Industry experts shared practical insights on digital transformation, helping equip businesses with the information they need to enhance their high value-added service capabilities. More than 200 SMEs participated in the event.

As an international financial and trading centre and a leading re-export hub, Hong Kong is able to capitalise on its unique advantages to reinforce connectivity, serving as a bridge linking the mainland and global markets. It provides high-standard professional services, robust financial infrastructure and an innovative environment for international trade. The HKTDC works closely with the HKSAR Government to highlight the city’s strength in delivering high value-added services across the trade supply chain.

Speaking at the event, Prof Frederick Ma, Chairman of the HKTDC, said that with the changing trade landscape, there was no better time to reinforce Hong Kong’s competitive advantages. “Hong Kong is actively developing its digital trade ecosystem, with a focus on innovation, efficiency and international collaboration, to consolidate its competitive advantages. As digital trade becomes more common, we are committed to making sure Hong Kong businesses continue to thrive. It is also a great opportunity to reinforce our city’s role as a leading supply chain hub. The HKTDC is dedicated to helping businesses leverage innovative technologies to equip businesses to be future-ready. Our Asian Logistics, Maritime and Aviation Conference (ALMAC) examines trends in global trade and supply chains, innovation and digitalisation, while our support programmes, including Transformation Sandbox, help enterprises scale up their capabilities in key areas, including digital transformation and supply chain solutions, to empower SMEs and start-ups to benefit from digital trade.”

Pamela Mar, Managing Director of the ICC DSI, believes Hong Kong, as an international trade and logistics hub already aligned with global standards, will lead Asia’s future digital trade development by remaining competitive and resilient amid a shifting global landscape. “Finance, trade and logistics make up over 45 % of Hong Kong’s economy, so accelerating digitalisation in these sectors will have a positive economy-wide impact.”, said Pamela Mar. “Hong Kong is well-positioned to become a leader in this space by aligning global standards and building on its strength as a trusted hub. The adoption of MLETR is a vital step, providing legal certainty for electronic documents like bills of lading, while streamlining processes and enhancing traceability. But legal reform is only the beginning — even greater gains lie in the private sector stepping up its digital transformation, which can be enhanced by Web3 technologies.”

Andy Lam, Deputy Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR Government, said, “The HKSAR Government is committed to fostering an efficient business environment and maintaining the international competitiveness of Hong Kong. Facilitating the digitalisation of trade documents is part of this strategy. We anticipate that the industry would actively provide feedback and allow the Government to formulate a legal framework that is in line with the needs of the industry, on which basis the industry may propose different technical solutions. On the other hand, the Government is also pressing ahead with Phase 3 of the Trade Single Window, which will not only facilitate the industry in their submission of business-to-government trade documents such as import and export declarations, but will also connect with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)’s Commercial Data Interchange (CDI) to facilitate banks in accessing relevant data to process trade financing.”

Industry experts discuss challenges in trade digital transformation
Accelerating digital transformation across every link of the supply chain introduces unique challenges. At the Masterclass, the conference brought together specialists in digital trade finance, electronic bills of lading, digital freight and logistics, and digital retail supply chain management to share their practical experience and insights working on digital transformation.

Kenise Sin, Senior Data Analyst in the Financial Infrastructure Department at the HKMA, explained: “SMEs’ access to trade finance has long been hindered by different pain points in the process. For instance, the heavy reliance on paper-based documents has led to inefficiencies and difficulties in tracking and verifying the transactions.” She added that HKMA aims to formulate a digitalisation roadmap for sea, road and air transportation cargo data by the end of this year, integrating cargo data sources across jurisdictions with the HKMA’s CDI, to enhance data sharing. In the coming two years, the HKMA will also work with the Airport Authority Hong Kong, the Transport and Logistics Bureau as well as pilot banks to leverage cargo data and CDI to improve digital trade finance.

Erik Kwok, Head of Technology and Operations at Air8 — which develops a supply chain finance platform for cross-border trade — echoed these concerns: “Many small to medium-sized exporters struggle to secure funding due to inadequate data for credit assessments, hindering their ability to compete globally. These obstacles are compounded by insufficient support for risk management strategies, leaving SMEs vulnerable in a rapidly evolving market.”

Another guest speaker, Candy Chan, Product Manager at IQAX, outlined how digitalising bills of lading can save both time and costs, boosting the efficiency of the entire trade ecosystem. She said many banks, freight forwarders, and customs systems still operate on fragmented digital platforms and lack interoperability. Blockchain, she argued, can bridge these silos: “Each trading partner has unique operational needs when adopting blockchain networks in digital platforms. In cross-border trade, trading and shipping documents are exchanged, and digitalised documents within a blockchain network can solve trust issues within and across networks, backed by MLETR.”

Kingnet Acquired Type 4 and Type 9 Licenses: Continuously Broadening Business Boundaries and Advancing Global Expansion Layout

Introduction: Accelerating progress in virtual asset management business in games and global expansion layout.

Recently, Spruce Technology HK Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kingnet, was officially granted Type 4 (advising on securities) and Type 9 (asset management) licenses by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong.

A previous similar event that attracted widespread attention in Chinese mainland occurred in December last year, when Zhang Yiming, co-founder of ByteDance, acquired a Hong Kong Type 9 license through a subsidiary “Cool River Venture HK Limited”.

Geographically, Hong Kong is expediting the process to become a global Web3.0 hub. For Kingnet, which is in an accelerated phase of gaming business globalization while aggressively deploying cutting-edge sectors such as metaverse and Web3.0, these two licenses will serve as pivotal fulcrum for its ecological upgrading: the company can not only attract more international partners to jointly develop AI-driven game development tools and PUGC platforms, but also carry out virtual asset generation in games, trading, and asset management businesses in full regulatory compliance, thereby bridging the “creativity-assets-finance” loop to build a trustable global digital economic ecosystem.

License Is Not the Destination
Forge A More Imaginative “Virtual Asset Manager In Games”

Kingnet has long been actively exploring the deep integration of cutting-edge technologies and capital operations in emerging fields such as Web3.0 and metaverse. As early as 2023, Kingnet disclosed that it could support product integration with Web3.0 from a technical framework perspective, and would maintain sustained attention to the evolution of Web3.0 technologies.

Additionally, Kingnet has proactively established a digital asset platform called “KINGNET CHAIN”, dedicated to aggregating diverse creators and gaming brands through blockchain technology in conjunction with Web3.0, metaverse and artificial intelligence to construct a digital art marketing system, establish digital brand IDs, and create a rich and diversified metaverse content ecosystem. Up to now, “KINGNET CHAIN” has released multiple original IPs and brand collaboration digital artworks. By employing a sales model that integrates “digital assets with real economy”, it promotes a deep convergence between digital economy and real economy.

On the opening day of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Olympic-themed digital assets series featuring Kingnet’s mascot “K Xiao Huang” was exclusively launched in limited quantities on the “KINGNET CHAIN”, with the customized interactive digital asset mini-game “Olympic ‘Huang’ Family Supporters” simultaneously released. Users can earn exclusive and unique digital asset rewards through gameplay participation, and these digital assets will be intrinsically linked to platform privileges to pioneer a new pathway for the mass adoption and application of the digital assets.

According to market data, “KINGNET CHAIN” has reached a milestone of nearly 200,000 identity-authenticated registered users. In the future, it can assist global market-oriented manufacturers in achieving overseas game digital asset distribution, form a dual-track model of “domestic regulatory-compliant distribution + multi-chain overseas circulation”, and provide a one-stop solution spanning from technical infrastructure to trading scenarios for globalization of gaming assets.

Prior to Kingnet’s entry, representative overseas gaming companies had already validated the feasibility of this approach by obtaining financial licenses for layout of the virtual asset management business: Hong Kong’s Web3 frontrunner Animoca Brands constructed a full-chain management system encompassing metaverse asset distribution and trading by acquiring relevant compliance qualifications. Mythical Games, founded by the former Activision Blizzard core team, has also established itself as a benchmark in the field of blockchain gaming for establishing closed-loop virtual asset value circulation through licensed compliance by implementing secure player asset ownership and trading leveraging the “invisible blockchain technology” under a compliant framework in flagship titles like Blankos Block Party.

With the acquisition of Type 4 and Type 9 licenses, Kingnet may further broaden its business boundaries in relevant fields such as virtual social interaction and blockchain gaming. By generating assets through gaming behaviors and activating assets via financial licenses, the company is forming a closed-loop ecosystem, thereby evolving into a “More Imaginative Kingnet”.

Based on Existing Overseas Layout Experience
Build an Open and Credible Global PUGC Platform

From another perspective, Kingnet’s globalization strategy had demonstrated tangible results even prior to acquiring SFC Type 4 and Type 9 licenses in Hong Kong.

From the product side, the company has proactively seized overseas market opportunities, proactively deployed global distribution, targeted the global market, established in-depth partnerships with numerous overseas channels, and achieved remarkable results in overseas market expansion. It is understood that newly launched games in 2025, including MU Immortal, Party Beasts, etc., have topped overseas gaming charts immediately upon release, demonstrating formidable growth potential.

The sequential launch of multiple new products is expected to further improve Kingnet’s product matrix and gradually form differentiated competitiveness, thereby further expanding its market share and driving tiered user base growth. As reflected in its performance, Kingnet’s overseas revenue reached RMB 375 million in 2024, achieving a year-on-year growth of up to 221.48%.

To support these ambitions, Kingnet has launched Kingnet AI , an AI-Web3 game collaboration platform developed by SmileCobra Studio , a Singapore-based Web3 gaming studio and Kingnet’s exclusive strategic partner. Kingnet AI features a visual, no-code AI creation engine that allows developers and creators to build blockchain-based games from scratch, automate content generation, and deploy multi-chain assets seamlessly. Kingnet AI has already established strategic partnerships with TON, Solana,BNB Chain, and Alibaba Cloud.

Combined with a series of actions of the company in game globalization, proprietary AI-powered development platform, etc., it can be speculated that the company will or may also create an AI-powered end-to-end game development toolkit and a PUGC player user platform overseas. The overseas user platform will target player communities by delivering AI-powered gaming products with diversified gameplay mechanics and innovative contents. With dual SFC financial licenses, the platform provides virtual economy systems where overseas developers can autonomously generate in-game tokens through the platform’s system or games on the platform to assist game developers in refining the economic systems.

From this perspective, Kingnet is hopeful to build a truly open and credible global PUGC platform and empower innovations in digital contents and economic systems based on its experience accumulated in overseas game operation & distribution over the past period and a deeper understanding of Web3.0 innovation models in overseas markets.
